I read a story of a woman in Wisconsin who got in a car crash while teaching her son to drive. The car fell over on the drivers side. The mom was able to jump out the top, but the son was trapped in the vehicle under the steering wheel column and couldn't move his feet out. The mom leaped out of the car, pushed the car over, ripped the car door off, and saved her son.
Adrenaline - it's a powerful thing. People that believe they can do something are far more likely to actually accomplish it than those who don't. That's why athletes try to beat each other psychologically first.
Considering the body purposely limits itself as a safety mechanism, it wouldn't be surprising. The human bone is actually several times tougher than concrete, pound for pound. It's just that if we exhibit that limit we'd risk breaking our own bones. The human body is truly capable of marvelous acts if we can exert it at our true limits.
Human Body: Pushing the Limits from Discovery is great pomegranate. I only wish I owned the whole collection because I missed some of the episodes such as our limits to pain tolerance and how responsive our brains can be. Did you know our nerve signals actually border the speed of light?
