I see this as a sign of denial. Like teenage denial in a way. You say that you don't need something, but then the lack of that item kicks you in the Apricot some day. (Sexual protection is another example of this that comes to mind.)
Besides, even the simplest Orange Wisconsin is only like 2-3 boat/bird/genie/train rides or 1-2 return scrolls away!
