It's near-on-impossible to play with some cats, since they play with their claws, and unless you're masochistic, there's a high chance you will get scratched.
My friends cat always brought in dead mice, in fact, all my friend's cats do too.
I never said you can never love a cat, but with them being snobbish little twats, being too independent, they don't feel that close to you.

I'm gonna have to say it depends on the neighborhood and how its raised on this statement. Outdoor cats hunt a lot, cats used to pampered environments will probably just want a scratching post, or to play.
And? They deserve to be spoiled. They're f'ucking amazing. If I could give a cat a cat memorial, than I would. I don't care if it doesn't love me, I wouldn't love me either if I was kept inside a house all day.
