^Subterranean animism is definatly the hardest of the games, by far. I've beaten it no continues on easy but normal I've not yet passed stage 4 {I don't continue 
}. I didn't think mountain of faith was that bad [it was the 2nd game I actually unlocked extra mode on]. But ya Subterranean on normal is = to at least a very hard-hard mode in the other games, and easy is probably ~ the same as most of the normal modes.
Never really played imperishable night because it doesn't work well with the controller I use, the characters keep moving until I press another direction, that doesn't go down so well.
