Here's an example of levelling unlocking more content. Can you see that I'm making a distinction between main content and side collector's content? You don't have to collect every single treasure and item to beat I dunno, Tales of Symphonia. Well, you could argue that you don't have to play it or get past the beginning at all, but then you're missing out on the story and the gameplay, and from there you go into a "well isn't everything a waste of time then" argument. The main content of the game is to play through the storyline, and everything else is just to provide distractions to enhance replay value and overall gameplay experience.
The main content of MapleStory is the killing monsters, and the party quests. I'm not saying "who cares it's just monster book," because obviously a lot of you guys do care, but my first post was just to question Isaac's analogy, in which he compared messing up your monster book to messing up your skills.
