Why do so many people dislike Socialism?

Damn it, Socialism ISN'T communism. And Hitler was a fascist, not a socialist. Nazism is a form of fascism. :/

I am sorry, this topic did get derailed and there is confusion between the two for a lot of people.

But I will say, the VAST majority of people that dislike communism will also dislike socialism. My family and I are from the Soviet Union, almost all of Russian immigrants living in America that I am aware of are Republican and are afraid that America will become socialist. The only socialist ever I met in America from my cultural/religious group had a Soviet communist appartchik as his father and wishes Russia was still communist. Most people that flee a communist country absolutely detest and distrust big government, including socialist governments.
