Killing someone in any way if not in self defense has been viewed morally wrong long before religion came around
It is a broad statement, yes, but then you get instances and examples in the Bible, Quran, or Torah where it is acceptable to kill, or you get the commandment of not to steal from other people. Stealing in society today is morally wrong, but it sure as hell wasn't when we were fighting to survive as hunter-gatherers hundreds of thousands of years ago, or just before organised religion emerged where the great conquerers of the world pillaged and ransacked villages for wealth. My point is that religion has set a lot of the rules that we see today, but in my opinion it has outlived its usefulness.
