Gandhi makes sense in a very narrow context. Outside of it, he is a drooling retard. If the tyrant he is peacefully protesting is a 1st world democracy, Gandhi works because he can appeal to the democratic consciousness. Put Gandhi in most of the world's tyranies, which you would suppose are the places where he is needed, and he will be dragged to the streetcorner, shot in the head, and his followers will follow suit.

Gandhi told the whole world to surrender to Adolf Hitler and then peacefully protest the Third Reich. I am not lying, go look at the history books, this was Gandhi's stance during World War 2. I think the only problem with that is the Nazis would have run out of Zyklon B in the gas chambers. Put Gandhi in Soviet Russia, (Stalin,) Khmer Rouge Cambodia, (Pol Pot,) or Uganda (Idi Amin,) and Gandhi and all his people would have been SHOT IN THE FACE. Was he useful? Yes. But only useful in a place like America or England. Sometimes, my friends, you gotta pick up the M-16s and speak to tyranny in the only language it REALLY understands. Gandhi survived to tell his story because of those Christians he doesn't like so much.
