Don't worry about the message, if things don't go as you planned, you might not be missing out on much. If you never spoke to him and his reaction isn't very good, you can just imagine he's a massive pimento, and that should help you move on from that

There is nothing wrong with going that extra step to talk to someone for the first time, just don't be disheartened if it doesn't work.
