How many here suffer from town lag/freeze?

Thorr Wrote:It's not a RAM problem. I have conclusively eliminated that. I maxed the RAM on all my machines that lagged in town (the staggering, game ending lag..) and there was no effect. The lag did not lessen.

It's also not necessarily a video card problem. I've taken my best video card and put it into my worst PC and nothing changed.

The best I can figure is that there is a minimum processor power needed to avoid it, or more likely, a minimum chipset efficiency required.

All my 32 bit machines have 4G of RAM, so here is my processor lsit

LAGS -
Pentium4 HT WinXP
Pentium4 HT Win7
Pentium D WinXP

Lags, but remains playable enough to get through town -
Pentium Dual (Vista)

No Lag (other than normal extraction lag) -
Core 2 Duo (Xp, Win7 32, Win7 64)
i3 (Win7 64)
i5 (Win8 64)

All of them were tested as above with both the onboard Intel HD graphics and a Radeon HD 67xx. The video card made no difference whatsoever.

All of the newer Intel CPUs have large 'L3 Cache'. Perhaps that is the key, if these caches are large enough to hold the entire Cassandra and Gaga quest history so that it can be rechecked 60 times per second as required.
