The assault rifle wasn't even in the school. What does that have to do with anything? There were also propositions of limiting clip size. Why? Someone can have more than 1 clip or, like in this case, more than 1 gun so he doesn't even have to reload it, just toss the one that's out of bullets and move on to the next.
The problem I personally have with this is, any restriction on our right to bear arms is a treacherously slippery slope; a child will try to get away with things just to see if he can, and that is a good analogy to what is happening here. They see that one thing works, they move onto the next, then if that works, they move on to the next, et cetera; they don't want to make a compromise, they want things to go entirely their way. When they are asked if they support fully banning guns, a straight answer is never given, because it CAN'T be given; they know that telling the truth and saying what they actually think would hurt their poll numbers.
We already have perfectly good gun control laws in place, but there are so many loopholes to get around them that they might as well not exist. But gun control isn't the same; what is desired is gun REMOVAL. If an opportunity presents itself, those against guns will take it without a second thought, regardless of the consequences.
