I see, is it strictly when you enter the map in darksight? I hadn't been looking for a pattern, though now that I think about it that may be it, if so thats not so bad.
Edit: Like I said, I think it does 1 damage each hit, as I still managed to hurt a green snail with it, but didnt kill it. Just my theory though =O
