I'm inclined to agree.
As for the rings, I thought post-entry prototyping still affected the rings, even if they didn't count towards powering up the battlefield. Didn't the trolls use that as the explanation for why they didn't prototype their sprites more than once?
EDIT: then again, I don't think Bec Noir took on Dave or Jade traits from those prototypings, so maybe I'm just crazy.
