SOPA Act

Derosis Wrote:I think you guys are taking this much too seriously. You can say whatever, but people are seriously over-reacting. The internet's been (slightly) censored, it's not like it's anything new. TV, Phone, etc. has been censored for years. The internet is still new you guys. Things will happen; whether we want it to or not.
Typical American mindset that facilitates bills like this from passing because they think nothing they can do will prevent it. Standing idle and just watching to see how something unfolds is going to be the eventual downfall of our rights.

If it were only affecting the US we would have the right shove a gigantic pole up our asses (though I would prefer that didn't happen, figuratively or otherwise...), but this isn't just us that will be getting shafted. I would rather not get bombed by angry *insert any other nationality in the world*, thank you very much. We already have the richest people in the Middle East pissed as hell at us, why would we do something that would make EVERYONE hate us...well, even more.

It is my honest belief that, if this passes and they actually follow through with it, it will incite a third world war, except this time, it will be everyone versus us, and WHEN we lose, we will be a third world country...then when the rest are done with us, they will just throw the scraps at China and they will be happy to place us under their heel for a few centuries. Of course, the other option is, we go in nukes blazing and everyone kills everyone. Yes, that is correct, I am theorizing that our government enforcing this one law could cause the end of humanity.

Oh hey, 2012 is a few days away, now. ehehehehehe.

Beat me to it.

Additionally, there's a lot of push to actively get people to call their representatives and do more than just rage online here. There's even a video here, in this thread, going out the way to educate and encourage actively doing so.

Some of them twitter during the hearing. During a few of the voting processes on this very bill, they had to call on a few of the senators more than once and they were like "whoa what, it's my turn?" when they got their attention.

That or they were sleeping.

Some of them were pretty old, I'm not ruling that out.

From what I read of that, he's sidestepping the issue.

haha no. well kinda. One of the congressmen in the committee meeting was essentially saying it though. They apparently defined "nerds" as people who can use the internets, so this on congressman, who doesn't know how to internet, basically is supporting the bill because he doesn't know the extent of the internet and pirating an stealing stuff is just wrong.

It was one more of my sarcastic remarks that I tend to write on this forums, but I bet you he isn't the only one who is thinking similarly.

Ok that would make sense, most politicians avoid getting too deep by doing some pretty wording.

He's flat out holding his stance on supporting the bills by refusing to either acknowledge or deny my view on the issue, and instead ignore it altogether.
