HAPPY JESUSWEEN EVERYONE!!

Quote:It's got costumes, it's got candy, but for some, what Halloween appears to be lacking is Christianity.

To combat this apparent imbalance, one Christian group is promoting what it calls 'Jesus Ween', a faith-based alternative to the holiday.

The group's website says: "We are focused on helping people live a better life... Throughout the year and especially from October 31st till November 15th we hold several seminars on various helpful topics."

Jesus Ween participants are expected to hand out Bibles and other Christian gifts in "a friendly way", according to a promotional video. Instead of costumes, participants are supposed to wear white, to symbolize righteousness.

Gawker spoke to the event's creator, a Pastor Paul Ade, who runs a congregation in Calgary. He described the motivation behind it:

"Halloween is not consistent with the Christian faith. Many people say they feel uncomfortable on that day. We think people should choose an alternative activity."

The group's Facebook page also makes similarly lofty predictions of success, stating that the day "is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever."

Satirical website The Onion has a different take on the proposed new holiday:

What they forgot to take into account, though, is the fact that those heavy Bibles are going to be hard to carry around all night. Many a child's candy sack will break. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

Shouldn't they try to fix their main holiday before fixing the other people holidays?

Halloween isn't a holiday.

I was thinking about that too!
There are some churches that give the bible for free or for a small donation.

I guess to save paper and not throw a big book at kids just get a single sided bible and cut out quotes and give that to the kids.

Win-win for both people, save paper/money and kids get a part of the bible.[/COLOR]

Bibles are good ammunition to throw at people giving bibles.

Just take them from the church or a motel. They're free right? o_o

I don't think little kids can throw them that far, depending on which version they are giving out. Some of the bigger ones are like 20+ pounds.

This doesn't surprise me though, I can't lose any more faith in religion than I already have, though, so I'll just chuckle and walk away.

It is.

To be honest, if I were given anything but something delicious I'd throw it after I'm no longer in sight of the person giving me that garbage. I wouldn't throw it when they can still see me though, that's just rude.

Use them to replace toilet paper, just rip the pages (the about 2000 pages) and paper the people that gave it to you.

Not sure how its cataloged in the US but I thought festive day = holiday, also taking in mind the holy part you could say is as much of a holiday as christmas eve.

When we ran out of candy tonight I tried to convince my dad to let me put a bible in the candy bowl.
This was after we ran out of chips, nutrigrain bars, cereal bars, and were halfway through the pretzels (Frown)
He still wouldn't let me.

Those children weren't raptured anyway, what's the point of giving them Bibles?

It never ceases to amaze me how the radicals in a religion are automatically taken as the "standard" for people to ridicule them.

Not all Christians are like this, and instead of pointing at religious people as a whole, why not just point to the idiots doing this?
