Nexon Wrote:Welcome to AcornStory, our ongoing feature where we help you get started in Maple World everything from choosing a class to finding friends to understanding combat to tips for account security. MapleStory is easy to learn, but once you learn the basic game mechanics, where do you go and what do you do? Thats where AcornStory can help.
Playing a Warrior
In a previous AcornStory, we discussed how to pick an Explorer type that fits your play style. This time, well be focusing in on a specific Explorer character class the Warrior and talking about what to expect when you play as a Warrior. We'll also talk about the three advanced Warrior classes in the game.
Warriors are in many ways the physically toughest class. They will usually be found at the front of the party taking damage and bringing their powerful weapons to bear against monsters in one-on-one combat. Warriors are also able to use much of the weaponry in the game and depending upon which career path they choose to pursue, they'll be able to specialize and get really powerful with certain kinds of weapons.
Warriors begin MapleStory in the same way as every other Explorer class -- as Beginners on Maple Island where they learn the basics of the game. That lets you make some friends and kill some monsters. Once you reach level 10, travel to Lith Harbor on Victoria Island and talk to the Warrior statue to arrive at the Warrior town of Perion. Once there, climb all the way to the top of the map and speak with Dances with Balrog to get started on your Warrior career as a beginning Warrior (called a "Swordman.")
Once you are accepted as a novice Warrior, Dances with Balrog will give you a level one skill book called "Warrior Basics." Once you acquire it, you'll see a list of basic Warrior skills you can learn. Select the one you want and assign Skill Points to acquire them.
Warrior Skills and Skill/Ability Points
Characters in MapleStory grow stronger in two basic ways. As a character kills monsters, they acquire "experience points." When they attain a certain number of experience points, they'll rise in level. For each level they attain, they'll receive a certain number of Skill Points and Ability Points that they can use to acquire new skills and powers that can be used to fight monsters as well as improve their basic abilities.
Skill Points -- Warrior
Skill Points are used to learn new powers that help Warriors kill monsters or to increase the power of an already learned skill. Many MapleStory players on the Internet have taken it upon themselves to write detailed guides that recommend various Warrior "builds." This simply means that they give lists of skills they believe make for a skilled and useful Warrior and tell you how many Skill Points you should put into each ability.
If you would like to get some recommended builds or discuss it with other players, you can get started on the official MapleStory Forums.
This guide won't recommend a specific build, but will point out a few sample Warrior skills.
Note: Certain Skills will not be available until you reach a certain level.
Iron Body: This skill temporarily toughens up your warrior and increases their defense against an enemy's physiscal attacks.
Power Strike: This ability allows your Warrior to use Magic Points (MP) to deliver a tremendously damaging blow with your weapon.
Slash Blast: This skill allows your Warrior to use Magic Points (MP) and Hit Points (HP) to attack every enemy around them.
Ability Points: Ability Points are used to increase a character's basic abilities. Abilities are inherent characteristics that affect a character's abilities to perform Skills and other actions. "Strength," for example (abbreviated STR) affects the amount of damage a character inflicts when striking a monster. The most important Abilities for a particular class are sometimes referred to as their "primary attributes."
Primary Attributes -- Warrior
Strength (STR): Strength is by far the Warrior's most important Ability. The higher your STR, the more damage you'll do when hitting a monster with a handheld (melee) weapon. Certain weapons require a certain amount of STR before you can use them.
Dexterity (DEX): Dexterity plays an important role in improving your accuracy and helps you avoid getting hit.
Pro Tip: The distribution of Ability Points is very important for a Warrior. Some players recommend pumping most of your Ability Points into STR while putting nothing into DEX. Others believe in a more balanced approach. It's recommended you seek out the advice of fellow players when building your Warrior.
Job Advancement
Once a character reaches level 30, they have the opportunity to begin to specialize in their chosen class. This is called a "job advancement." For Warriors, that means they can choose to follow the path of the Fighter, the path of the Page, or the path of the Spearman. Fighters use swords or axes and are generally the toughest of the Warrior classes in one-on-one combat. Pages are a more balanced and flexible class that use swords and blunt weapons. Spearmen attack from slightly longer range and do incredible damage at the cost of defense and speed.
In order to get your job advancement, return to Dances with Balrog at level 30. He will give you a quest to prove your worth. Once you finish the quest, you will be able to select which path you wish to follow and your job title will change from "Swordman" to your new job.
When your character reaches level 70, you should return to Dances With Balrog again for your next job advancement. Your final job advancement is available at level 120.
Fighter
The path of the Fighter is the path of the hero. It's your job to wade into combat one-on-one and take down the toughest monsters using sword or axe. Fighters do enormous damage with their weapons and can take tremendous punishment. The down side of being a Fighter is that you'll be at a disadvantage against magic using enemies and you cannot fight at long range.
Sample Fighter Skills
Sword Booster: This allows your Fighter to use HP and MP to boost the attack speed of your sword.
Rage: This skill will allow you and everyone in your adventuring party to make more powerful weapon attacks. While under the influence of this skill though, everyone will also be more vulnerable to enemy weapons.
Power Guard: When this skill is activated, you will automatically instantly heal a certain percentage of the damage being dealt you by the enemy.
Page
The path of the Page is the first step toward becoming a Paladin. While traveling this route is often difficult, it becomes very worthwhile at higher levels when you gain the ability to strike down many monsters at once.
Sample Page Skills
Final Attack: BW: This skill allows you to follow up a blunt weapon attack with another one instantly.
BW Booster: This allows your Page to use HP and MP to boost the attack speed of your blunt weapon.
Threaten: Your Page can use Magic Points (MP) to temporarily reduce the weapon damage done by creatures in the area. It also makes them more vulnerable to the Page's weapon attacks.
Spearman
The path of the Spearman is a difficult one. The Spearman sacrifices defense in favor of enormous offensive power and the ability to strike at many foes at once. They can also lend tremendous power to their adventuring companions, making a Spearman (or his later jobs, Dragon Knight and Dark Knight) most welcome in a party.
Sample Spearman Skills
Spear Booster: This allows your Spearman to use HP and MP to boost the attack speed of your spear.
Iron Will: Temporarily increases the level of weapon and magic defense on every member of the party around the area.
Hyper Body: Temporarily increases the Max HP and Max MP of all members of the Spearman's party in the area.
