MapleStory 2.0: What else should be changed?
#1
Well, I think this is something all of us always think about. We always wish for things in the game that we don't agree with to be changed somehow and for new things to be implemented. Seeing as how this "MapleStory 2.0" project is revamping many aspects of the game, I think this is a good chance to discuss what other changes you'd like to see in the game. Maybe the Korean Designers read it somehow Rolleyes

Discuss about skills, game play, formulas, graphics and anything else you want but please, do not take NX or Nexon itself into this discussion with comments like "Nexon is a pomegranate company" because we all know that will never change. Cool

I will start.

1 - I'd like to see new visual effects for some of the adventurer's skills. Maybe not for 4th job ones, but sure for some 3rd job and below ones. Compared to the skills of most of the new jobs, those graphics have become bad and it will just get worse as new jobs are released. For Example, compare Aran's booster (1st job skill) to adventurer's booster (2nd job) and you get my point. Or evan's magic flare to I/L wizards cold bean. I'm not sugesting they make all adventurer's skills as flashy as Legend's skills (Since after this balance patch, flashy is all Legends will have over adventurers...) but they are just ...gray.

2 - New animations for some monsters. Seeing as now many monster that were low level, are now lvl 1xx, I think it's just right to give them new animations. For example, now that zombies are lvl 120, it'd be dumb if they kept their claw attack and still hit 3k damage.

3 - Another cool thing I'd love to see in this maplestory is the running ability from "MapleStory DS". Any one that has checked that game knows how cool it is. It would speed up the game play and make it funnier.

4 - To finish, I would love to see the already existant "Set" system to be implemented to every clothes' set in the game. We already have sets of clothes for every 5 and 10 levels and for every job, those with a full set of clothes (let's say Dark neos or reverse) should be given a bonus. Since the zakum helmet is the only boss item that could interfere into this, maybe make it so you need all but the helmet to get the bonus. I'm just sick of watching lvl 1xx+ people wearing a whole set of lvl 50 clothes, and even lower. making any other clothes useless. Sure Nexon Korea is messing around with the secondary stats for all jobs to turn them more usefull but, that might not change the way clothes are used in this game

This is all i can think about right now, let's see what you think. Excuse my english.

I've been quite jealous towards Wind Archers' Strafe over regular Archers. I do agree that some Adventurer skills should have improved visual effects. :<

Change the damage formula to get something that look somehow like a real strategic fighting system. Put a cooldown on potions. Buff Arans. Change the stupid new accuracy formula. Buff shadowers. That's it.

its gonna be said, you just know it.

how about something with elemental weaknesses, (cant/dont) they (be/need) improved or fixed?

Multi-core CPU, multi-thread, and enhanced Graphics Card support. There is no reason why this game can't make use of hyper threading or multi-core processors.

Also Windows Vista/7 support. But from what I hear, its only GMS that has problems with those operating systems.

The "recommended hardware" for this game on the website is hardware we currently have in higher-end cell phones, it's seriously time for them to up ante.

Serious troll right here. When you have different classes, making them all do the same things will make people bored. There would be no challenge to make one job try to be better than another job that normally is better.

A cooldown on pots? why the hell would you do that? NO ONE would play the game. It would be nearly impossible to do anything.

Arans dont need a buff. Some would argue that they need to be nerfed slightly, seeing as they are one of the strongest classes.

The new ACC formula could use some tweaking, but it is more realistic than before.

Shadowers seem strong enough.

A better tax system. Yes I'm asking to be taxed more.
But only because at this rate, everything will keep inflating. Why are people paying past the maximum amount of mesos that can be held for certian items?
Ever since nlc came out, people are barely spenidng any of their income on pots.
I mean wtp, apples are 6mil in Bera >:o

Spend more money on pots>>never have gear that can take you to higher levels.

You didn't understand my two first ideas. They go together. If monsters deal less damage, we can have a cooldown on pots to get more strategic fights. It would be more realistic too. Can you drink five potions in 1 second?

Seconding this minus the zhelm exception. If you want a class set, it has to be a SET. Even if the buffs don't overpower the benefit of a zhelm, people who do this deserve something. Sick of all the common everywhere.

I'd also like to see our MTS transformed into that other system that allows for trades of items and NX items for combinations of NX and mesos. The way everything has been pumping out 60%s lately, any attempt I've made to earn NX has failed. Note: I tried one of the survey things and found 74 tracking cookies on my comp afterwards... because the earn NX thing only works on IE for me.

Going further, I'd like the monster book to become account shared and be able to use the buffs from cards already obtained. The manner in which you could use them would be X cards at a given time based upon a combination of book level and character level. The buffs would improve slightly as you get more of that particular card, ie 1 card = 2% poison resist, 5 cards =7% poison resist.

The quests also need to be modified so that you can enjoy most of them without outleveling their range by doing others. The first 40 levels go by too fast now, and the quests there are too plentiful to be useful and need to be spread out.

Give us the repeatable quest to get the tickets from Nautilus to Omega. This would greatly improve movement through the 3 supercontinents (at least I refer to them as such).

Elderly Packrat Event. Give people who have held onto untradable event items tickets depending on the age of the items to trade in for nice stuff.

And for the heck of it, I'd like the dmg cap to go up to 1 mil.

This is one of the updates I would most likely fall in love with. I hate having to walk everywhere. Even if the running animation was only changed for above 120+ speed, it's still look better than walking. I guess I just love the running animation in MapleDS.

How do you implement running while still keeping speed scrolls, mounts, and movement skills useful?

Just because other MMOs have cooldowns on potions doesn't mean it would ever work in Maple. Jobs with HP recovery skills would never die and as a result become bandwagon jobs, effectively making all the work put into revamping Maplestory useless. Games that try too hard to be realistic end up only appealing to a small audience. Virtua Fighter is a lot more realistic and strategic than Street Fighter but Street Fighter has a significantly larger fanbase than Virtua Fighter. Maplestory will never cater to a niche market because it doesn't use a subscription business model.

There is always a price for adding strategic elements to a game. That cost usually appears in the form of slower gameplay. Slower gameplay takes away from the real-time action aspects. MMO's that make strategy the primary focus end up spending all their time trying to speed up gameplay. Believe or not, many people like that Maple isn't too complicated. If you are looking for something more strategic, play Tenvi.

I'd like 2 things:

Chakra to give a buff in addition to healing. I love the skill as is, but I always felt if it gave some sort of buff more people would be inclined to use it.

Chain lightening to do residual damage. Something like 1/10th of the damage/sec for 3 seconds. Either that, or 1/10th of the damage it did followed by 1/10th of that damage till the damage hits 0.

If I read that right, I believe they were just refering to an animation of running when speed exceeds a certain number. Which, while nice, would require a huge number of sprite frames which may increase the file size considerably.

LPQ needs an overhaul.
-Their is a high rate of failure because there are too many requirements to complete it. Many times someone will quit the party, dooming the run to failure.
-Stage 8 (the 5 person box combination stage) of LPQ can take way too long to complete just because of bad luck.

It really would depend on how they did it. I believe they could work it without editing many item sprites, just the main body. Hair doesn't need to be changed, and weapons can be rotated. Clothes might need an additional sprite, but nothing too substantial.

Personally what I would like to see is a brand new HUGE quest line. They've rearranged Victoria Island, made alot of monsters high leveld, I want some biiiiiiiiiig storyline quest that spreads from level 1 to 200! (ahm B>Episode 2~5)
Running option would be very very very nice
And personally I think cooldown on potions can be added only if we're given some skills we to help us survive - dodge and block for a start. also, reduced damage on monsters is a must for cooldown. (because when monsters 30 levels below me kill me in 2 hits and I got a 3 sec delay on my potions it's not funny anymore.)

-increase max fame from 30,000 to 100,000

Explanation:1#
This "Fame Ranking" is useless and there is no challenge when everyone is marked as no.1 and cant get beyond 30k,also once you reach 100k your fame cannot be decreased to 99,999.
2# the more fame you have reduces the tax you need to pay in certain trading systems and is also used for quests (not 100k fame of course)
3# a medal for the 100k achiever (quiet insane huh? but at least fame is now USEFUL and CHALLENGING)

- increase max HP and MP from 30,000 to 40,000

Explanation: Why? well, after this "30% HP increase" everyone will be close to 30k hp.. so we should improve the max hp and also this will make us able to compete with strong bosses.

- running ability as already mentioned, but running ability would be not realistic,so what i suggest is:
a system like in Combat Arms, you have a 'bar' that refills to the max every 2 minutes and is increased every level you gain (wouldnt it be awesome?)
running ability should be 110% speed and to "run" you must hold a certain button (whatever nexon chooses)
the bar being near the EXP/HP/MP bars would be cool haha

- I really liked the set system that someone mentioned above! thatd be really awesome

- A whole new "Beginner Guide" I mean, like the cygnus knights they get this ball thingy that guides them
so nexon should implement a new npc and system that will explain every single part of the game in the UI
a beginner "course" like the one JMS had would most likely be good for it but in this one you can decide if you wanna come in or not and in the course itd explain what monster book is, resolution mode, windowed mode, the continents of maple, the jobs' differences, what PQs are, quests, fame, skills and more..
or actually, would this beginner course be useful BEFORE a person registers the game? and be an option like the one we had of the guest login but here it generates a newbie look and lets you do the course only... so new players would get a ''taste'' or what its like and let them examine which job is the best for them.

(offline mode for the beginner course too)

Better quests, and better quest rewards.

What I really want to see is longer quest story-lines that have prerequisites. I'm talking like themed-dungeon storyline length (read: Mushroom Kingdom, Neo Tokyo) with an *exclusive* item at the end, that make them worth doing. I was doing one of the El Nath storylines the other day (forgot the name. The one that gives you the level 55 cape). Its horrendously long in length and has several expensive items required (Synthesized DEX and LUK Crystals), making it completely worthless to complete. The level 55 cape ends up becoming obsolete 5 levels later anyway.

Also this is what I've really been hoping for all along: storyline quests for Adventurers only. Cygnus, Aran and Evan all have their own exclusive storyline. The Episode 1 Quest Chain gMS has is just disappointing. I'm sorry I wouldn't like looking like an Owl for 30+ levels until I get my Zak helm. I'm talking a quality kMS designed storyline.
