Auto-reverse problem

Okay, I didn't know of any other spot this should be and I tried google searching the answer to no avail. So my question is does anyone know how to turn off the auto-reverse on a 1997 mercury mountaineer's cassette player?

Background info: I recently bought a mp3/cassette adapter cause I am bored of my CDs (I have more songs on my mp3 player than I have on my CDs). So it works well except the cassette player keeps randomly trying to go to side B on the cassette so it interrupts my music a lot. Today it was doing it so much so that my music would play for about 5 second, get interrupted by the auto-reverse for about 5 seconds and then play again for 5 seconds only to be interrupted again.

So any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for any help I receive.

This is because of the cassette tape adapter that you have. I use a cassette converter for my car to listen to my iPod, since it only have cassette and radio (and I dont want an iTrip).

The old conventional tape method has a strong white strip at the end, and when it gets there, the tape stops spinning, signalling the player to swap side. Your adapter probably got worned out and it doesnt spin as smoothly, causing the player to think that it's time to reverse. You will need to somehow stop the converter from getting stuck (I tried with the old one and broke it in the process). Maybe once I have some times, I'll try to figure out the mechanic of a cassette player and we'll see then.

Problem with it being worn out is it has only been about 5 days since I bought it and it has been doing this since I got it.

Can you spin the tape converter smoothly?
