Weaponry has a drastic effect in warfare. Example: When the Germans invaded Poland their Pzkfw I-III were able to easily destroy Renault FT-17s. However the German success was also large due to new strategies and new tactics. The Six Day and Yom Kippur wars were won largely due to Israeli superiority in the Air & Armor which was contested through missiles in the Yom Kippur war and hence why it was more deadly to the Israelis (and the fact that Egypt was not allowed to import any more replacement parts for their armored divisions).
And your point is null due to the fact that an armored, sealed, and supplied tank could kill endless amounts of simple spear men, simply by running them over.
Americans have great weaponry but terrible strategy and tactics and are able to win wars (especially in 1991, that was a masterpiece of Air Supremacy & technology, not strategy). And once again "could fall prey" doesn't mean they will.
