Question (and first post)
#1
Hello.

I've been lurking around these forums for the past day (because I had googled 'koolk arrested' and found this place) and I thought of a REALLY good idea but I'm unsure if it's legal or not. It's basically the things koolk did in his pacman video, like if I wanted to implement images and different jobs into the game. Based on what I've read, I don't think koolk was arrested for that, but for hacking some servers. I'm also aware that the WZ Repacker is capable of doing those things (so you can put new images into MS). I had a really good idea that involved doing this, and I'm wondering if it's legal or not. Thanks in advance Smile

Welcome to Southperry, the land of chinchillas, pineapples, and opossums! Will edit the answer to the question later due to quickness issues...

Edit: It should be legal as long as you don't release the repacker/program that inserts the new images in. I think if you release it, Nexon has the right to sue you.

From what I can understand and what Fiel has explained as long as you do not release any methods on how you repacked or unpack .wz files you are okay. However, we will see on Monday if in fact it is alright for Fiel to decrypt Nexon's files.

Alright. So I'm gonna be safe as long as I don't tell how I did it / release it? Cool.

I was thinking of adding 9 new jobs, each with their own unique skills and equips . I might not finish, but it'd be a cool experience for me Rolleyes

Meh, I probably won't do it. Nah, I won't.

Regarding the legality, I think it would be very safe if not only did you not release the repacker or its source code or methods, but did not release any of the work you did with it. In other words, keep it on your own computer and don't do something silly like start up a private server using your mods.

Even if it's not legal (and I think it would be but I'm no expert), if it's never released they wouldn't know or have a reason to care.

Nah, but seriously, welcome (That's not hi ;D), and about that question, I believe modifying the data is bad, or something. Also, worse if made public. But I don't think it's a problem if you keep it personal.
