If you were given the chance, would you want to be immortal?

Would you?

I wouldn't. I want to die someday because then I can die feeling accomplished. I also feel that death is what makes life sacred to us. If we were to never die then we'd take life for granted because we can't lose it, and we wouldn't get the most out of life.

What are your opinions?

Yes, I would. It'd probably become boring as hell at some point, but I'd really like to see how the world changes and how it all ends. Of course if I ended up becoming senile, it'd be pointless.
It depends on the circumstances of the immortality.

It truly is. How do you feel, knowing that the girl you love died because she aged and withered away. How do you think she feels seeing you all young? What about your family? Your family could have died due to an illness, and you'd be by yourself. Your friends grew old, have children, and everybody all aged away and died in the future. Leaving you with a newer civilization that you will have to learn to adapt to, you know no one because you are afraid of losing people. Your life is filled with misery, deaths, and torment due to seeing everybody else died except you surviving. What if there is no such thing as humanity left on Earth, just animals. Perhaps nothing at all, an emptiness. You'd be by yourself, clinging.. and clinging.. to nothing.

Are we talking Claire Bennet immortality or Adam Monroe immortality?

If the latter i would totally take it. If the former, i probably still would.

IMO it would depend on the condition of obtaining Immortality and the conditions of the Immortality itself. For example, if you're life just sucked hard, you'd want Immortality in order to make it better, but if your life was friggin awesome (love, life, happiness) you'd not want Immortality unless you could share it with those you love (which unfortunately couldn't happen as it was offered to you and only you).

Immortality is a hard choice: you'd want to get close to someone by simple human instinct, but in the end you know you have to leave in order to save you the trouble of watching them die.

Of course there are levels of Immortality that I'd be okay with. For example:

Adam Monroe's (Heroes) Immortality would make me sad and frustrated. However, if i had the type of Immortality that Tom Hank's character recieves in The Green Mile, That i would be okay with- you deal with all the outcomes of regular Immortality, but in the end you know that death will welcome you eventually.

I'd only want to be immortal if I was invincible (can't be killed), as well. I wouldn't want it to be like regeneration either. I want to be an unstoppable monster. Take a direct hit from a nuke? Doesn't phase me. That's the stuff I'm talking about. If I was just immortal but could still be killed, I wouldn't want to be. My life would end up being exactly like it is now, and I'd grow bored and probably kill myself.

if it comes with regeneration and all that cool stuff sure. hell vampire works too ;D

i would not however like to be immmortal yet take damage like anormal human, it would suck to get shoot in the head and be an immortal tomato.

Uh, yeah? There's so much to see in the universe, you can't possibly see even a fraction of it in a million human lifespans. I want as much time to study everything as I can possibly get.

Immortal sided with Eternal Youth, yes.

I need to look young and beautiful.

It depends on the conditions of immortality. I forget what book it was, but in one country people born with a dot on the middle of their forehead were immortal. However, they still age. By the time they're 200 they're so senial that there's no point to living.

I would want to be able to take my own life, incase something happened. If I were able to be killed, I feel somebody would murder me at some point.

Although immortality seems good, I'd imagine life would be really boring at some point. Although I may consider it if I can stay eternally young.
