Thief players, what is fun about your thief?
#21
Gonna be succinct because there's not much to say to be honest:

Like:
-Don't get hit often, can afk on normal maps forever
-Main stat actually adds something very useful (unlike STR, and to a lesser extent DEX/INT)
-Phantom: ultimate support character vs DR bosses
-Phantom: Penombre amazing for clearing non-party maps, Ultimate drive amazing at clearing party maps
-NL: Mobile and can move between attacks due to no start lag and the ability to use their 1v1 move in the air

Dislike:
-No HP, so when you get pot locked and do get hit you die
-Bosses are starting to ignore avoid
-LUK stuff has traditionally been expensive because thieves are so popular
-NL: Has no pineappleing inventory room
-NL: Avenger gone, shadesplitter feels slow
-Phantom: Rush sucks
-Phantom: Nerf killed versatility in that you can't attack and support to the fullest at the same time

No. Avenger was a horrid skill in terms of use. It was just an extremely cool looking skill, but it was really a terrible mobbing move and was almost never used. (It only hit once, and didn't angle towards mobs like triple throw) Our previous sub par after all the new class release 1vs1 skill (triple throw) was better than avenger in terms of damage output unless you could hit 3 mobs at the same time with avenger, which almost never happened at bosses. However, I would have welcomed with a warm heart an avenger revamp instead of our current mobbing skill, such as avenger doing more lines of damage. That would be all it took for me to be upset over our avenger loss, and would have been a much better and simpler idea than shade split. Before the revamp, night lords had virtually no mobbing ability at ALL. We have an ok-ish especially if you're funded mobbing skill now, but it sort of goes against the whole concept of night lords having to get close, but this is also convenient at the same time for mob damage output, because you have to be close to use shadow web as well, and shadow web provides a nice DoT (and works on bosses!) After hyper skills, night lords will have the pretty decent mobbing we have always needed, and an extremely nice boost to 1v1.

Oh god I'd never want avenger back. I just got used to jumping into mobs and using shade split, don't make me relearn how to play my character again >.>. On a serious note avenger really was a horrible mobbing move in every way. It had a horrible hit box, was slow as molasses, and was only useful then I was on a completely flat surface or at wolf spiders. If we get a new mobbing move I'd want it to be similar to kaiser's gigas wave, just waves of stars all the time.

I have played both a shadower and phantom both I enjoy quite a bit. I was originally drawn to making a shadower about 1 year after the release of 4th job because I had played around with several other classes and none of them had quite what I wanted. I was looking for a class that could be both effective in bossing and training- from the previous classes I had played I was also looking for something with high survival. It didn't have to be the best at bosses or best at training but a class that could fit well into many roles.

Shadowers have come far since 4th job release- with the upgrade to bstep speed and the ability to cast in the air- as well as the more recent changes that removed Band. Most these changes were for what I believe the better. Band was a great and fast skill, miss it sometimes- but we recieved a rush skill and an upgraded SB in return (I suppose they could have tossed Dark Flare to keep Band- but that would make 3rd job SP build strange) The traits of Avoid-mobility-defense is what I admine if the class - a flying tank with avoid. The ability to hide then perform a crippling percision strike on a target was always alot of fun (Back when DS time mattered). And my constant quest to rase crit rate on a class that has no crit boosting skills has been fun! (hypers will change this) I am very much looking foward to see whats instore for us in the upcomming years. I do hope if/when they something for "5th job" they keep to the shadower style of powerful hit and run attacks- as well as improved survival.

I still don't like Shade Split. I too, rarely used Avenger, unless it was hitting multiple Zak arms, but I guess the nostalgia of Avenger training at Windraiders are too great

NL's lack a 4th job mobbing skill (the only class in the game without one if I remember). A long range one would be be preferred. I've said this before, but Nexon doesn't know how to revamp NL's at all. It's almost always been half-assed.

For people saying Night Lords lost drain, grow up a pair, and do the quests for vampire. It's SO worth it. With enough targets it can fully heal you. the 45% total limit is per mob hit.

Well, hyper skills fix that... Every 8 seconds.

I made my current Shadower mainly because Savage Blow looked so cool back then. When news of 3rd job came out and I saw Assaulter, that just sealed the deal for me. Of course, it was hell using a 1v1 skill all the way up to 3rd job, but I never got bored of Savage Blow. Then I finally reached 3rd and got access to the two skills that I'd be dying to get, Assaulter and Band of Thieves. Assaulter, you teleport and slash through the enemy with a sick pose; sure it was slow, but the coolness factor was so high. Summoning your own "band of thieves?" Hell yeah! Don't know why Chief Bandits and Shadowers that came later on hated Band of Thieves.

Then I hit 4th job and Boomerang Step, wow, invincibility frames? With Meso Guard, high avoidability, Boomerang Step, and Shadow Shifter, I felt invincible. We may not have been as mobile as our Night Lord cousins, but we were a helluva lot tankier.

When Dual Blades were announced, I was intrigued but not much. Then Nexon Korea decided to change their weapon setup from 2 Blades--> 1 Dagger and 1 Blade and then I was pissed. Daggers and their scrolls, which used to be dirt cheap, skyrocketed when that news got out. I still made one though to check it out. To my surprise, I had a lot of fun with it; it was more mobile and more powerful than my Chief Bandit (at the time). I liked being able to chain skills together so fluidly. I saw it as the opposite of my Chief Bandit, basically a glass cannon that did great damage but died really easily. I bumrushed it to level 100 to get the Dual Blade Mask during that event and it then became my highest level.

Then Big Bang hit and holy crap, Flash Jump and Shadow Partner on my Shadower? That was absolutely crazy. We had tankiness and now we got the mobility and damage to boot with the revamped Meso Explosion mechanics. Had a blast with it.

Chaos came later and then I decided to pick up my Dual Blade again which I had dropped when Big Bang hit. Don't know why, but Phantom Blow looked really awesome to me and that became a goal I had. In the end, I basically had my Shadower and Dual Blade at roughly the same level. Also finally saw being able to share daggers a blessing since thief equips were so expensive.

Then Renegades/Justice happened...I hated it. Read it on Max's blog when news of it came out and as soon as I saw that Assaulter and Band of Thieves were being removed, I hated it. The two skills that were the very reason why I made my Chief Bandit in the first place were going to be ripped away. Muspelheim? Lol, that crap is absolutely retarded; I still hate the skill to this day. Renegades basically took away the mobbing power of Shadowers because Meso Explosion is useless outside of party play areas and bosses. Carnival Edge was a great addition though.

When Phantom came out, I was not particularly impressed; it seemed more like a mage than a thief to me. The guy was also way too flashy to be a thief. Nonetheless I made one in mind that it would just be for the delicious Link Skill and then I would drop it. Turns out I had a boatload of fun with skill stealing and switching. Being so versatile in solo play and party play was amazing. Although the nerf hit me hard and I haven't really gone back to it since. Losing the ability to swap skills freely and on-the-go was too much.

Then Dual Blades got their revamp and holy crap, they basically gained Miss Godmode. Being able to literally not get hit and spending almost nothing on pots is OP. Though I was a bit sad that Dual Blades became better tanks than Shadowers.

Currently, still going with my Shadower and Dual Blade though I do prefer Dual Blades' Hyper Skills than Shadowers. Oh well, I'm sure something later on will come and bring me to love my Shadower as I once did.

Can't quite decide on the poll Excellent. Needs multiple choice, lol.

im still reading, even if i dont post much.

what im gathering so far;

Thieves in general
-avoiding like a ninja is fun
-flash jump and haste is fun
-shadow partner is fun

DB
-dem lines
-ultra mobility
-phantom blow is cool

NL
-ranged stars are neat

Shadower
-assaulter was cool
-savage blow/midnight carnival is cool

strangely enough it sounds like DBs are still having great fun, Shads are mad but better off than NL, and NLs are just mad period

Nah, that sums it up quite nicely, I dropped my NL as soon as I saw the revamp, and have played a DB ever since.
I have some hopes that they will make NWs into what NLs should have been with the Cygnus revamp, I like them shurikens.
Also, Phantoms should still be fairly happy, at least those that did not jump on the ol' bandwagon before the needed nerf.
I think Xenon would probably be a fun class, but I find it looks absolutely horrendous.

Also a potential 5th job throws everything out the window. Monocle

What I'd say to defend how I love my NL, is that it's a simple to play class. With just 2 main skills, it's quite easy to play. Single target, n-throw, mobs, Shade shifter. And then the rest is up to you. Want to make yourself more complete? Get vampire, and you'll almost never need a HP potion. Have a Demon avenger in your party and the boss 1/1s? You'll love dark flare. Wanna dodge attacks? Master flash jump, that isn't clogging a key anymore.

It just takes the principle of maplestory (1 target / multitarget / support) and makes it simple (Quad throw / Shade splitter / Vampire). That's what I like, mainly. But then again, there's stuff to improve, like frailty curse not working on bosses, and shadow web being completely useless (its DoT during the whole time is actually less than a single quadruple throw maxed, and the enemy unbinds when you hit it... So a nerfed stun, yes).

Well i made a Nightwalker a Really long time ago. So I havent actually played with the new mobbing skills much other than like 5 minutes after I put points into them.

I like the Nightwalker because of speed and avenger. When I first started playing maple Avenger was like the coolest move out there. After I got my NightWalker I used avenger practically all the time. I personally like the mechanics of avenger. How it basically mows downs mobs. You right in how it doesnt angle but I like that. If forces you to move around when you mob.

OH thats another thing. I loved loved loved how when your training you just move around and kill. and you move around pretty fast. Its fluid. Im not to sure how they are played now but Jumping into monsters to mob doesn't seem like a Ninja(i think NLs resemble Ninjas) to me. This isnt naruto.

Also on the fluid point. TT was also a very fluid skill. How when you used it, it was just a chain of 6 stars that didnt seem to have a start or end. Even though it was a non-huricane type skill. The sound it made was also cool. Quad Throw seems to broken for me. I'd prefer TT over Quad if damage was the same. But since I think I know what your doing, So a new 1vs1 skill would be nice. This could be bad character design but in my eyes NL's/Walkers should suck at mobing but awesome in the 1vs1 and mobility department.

Specifically for the NL Posioin Bomb is a crappy move that doesn't fit at all with their theme and doesn't converge with any skill except for adv darksight.

Disclaimer-Only played NW till 120 and havent played in a while so my things are a bit outdated.

For idea's, if you looking for them, if you could cast a shadow partner so that it doesn't follow you and is stuck doing one action would be cool. with some perks along with it. One thing nexon didn't do that I wish they would have is expand on shadowpartner. That skill could definitely be one of those skills that have many branch skills from it, if you though about it.
