genki emulation attempt #4.

not really a wip but i am not satisfied with how her hair looks. used inordinate number of layers but it still looks transparent. however, i am trying to use only hard edged brushes here, in keeping with yet another attempt of Genki's style. also threw in some pen inking because she uses it too(!)

how to improve the hair, without destroying the hard-brush look?

any idea what sort of style this is?

see below for inspiration, didn't have the courage to make this a romantic scene. haha.

Lisande's 'Sojourner' Wrote:The way his hair lay, so familiarly, almost antiquely. That scar, across his right cheek. And his eyes, as brightly grey as they had been since the first time she had stared into them, so many years ago, reflecting the moon.

“I suppose,” she agreed, then, and kissed him lingeringly.

In the moonlight, her hair fell through his fingers like spun gold, and her skin was warm to his touch. The frozen snow did not seem cold beneath them, and above them hung the wild, wild moon in a sky that had forgotten the dawn.

Looks good, but I think the bottom-right part of the hair lacks flow or is excessive.

Really like the face on this one.

I think this is excellent, especially the face... I'm no artist, so I can't give you advice on how to fix things, but a few things I'm going to point out:

1) If you stare directly at her face, you can make out her skull (as though she's bald). Not sure why.
2) Her hair curves a bit too much. If the wind were blowing that hard, the second wave (starting from her hair) should be bent back as far.

thanks for all the feedback guys (:

harrison - maybe it's the fact that the original was 2000x1500 and has been sized down! the hair and face were actually completely separate layers when i made them - unfortunate that she appears bald in this version:
 Spoiler
must work on that. my figures all seem bald! was trying for a less photorealistic look but keep slipping back into realism, bad ji... re the hair, was going for a "flat" sort of "retro" look (eg http://pochi-chan.deviantart.com/art/Ah-bird-75263457 yes, Genki again!), maybe i need to find out what style i am actually looking for!!

loose - yes, that was a last minute IWarp change because it looked even more bizarre than it does now - bad decisions! hmmm.. how does hair work?
