It has something to do with that gate o_O

Becuase Bellatrix doesn't use the killing curse on Sirius, she stums him or something, and he falls through the veil in the gate.

depends on whether your talking about the book or the movie

cedrics death is plain old avada kedavra.

however, sirius' death in the book and movie is different

in the book he is hit by a curse (not avada) and he sinks through the gate, which is where (im assuming, due to luna and harry hearing the voices) is where the dead people are

in the movie he is hit by avada and he sinks through the gate. i guess this was changed just to stop any talk of how sirius may not be dead. but he does die.

No, she used the killing curse. I think it was because Sirius was near the gate thing, maybe there's where you go when your dead. (I can't believe I'm discussing this on a Maple forum.)

[COLOR="Blue"]Quote from the book:

"Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: He was laughing at her ... The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest."

Couldn't have been Adava Kedavra cause the light was red not green. But in the movie Bellatrix clearly says "Avada Kedavra," then Sirius just kinda of fades away into the archway. He doesn't get knocked back like in the book.

Oh Goodie...a topic I know something about!

If you read the quote carefully, it says "the second jet of light"...NOT the second jet of red light. We don't know exactly what color the second jet of light actually was. We can infer that it was red, but as JKR is a master at slight of hand using words, you should never assume anything. Eventually we are told that he is absolutely dead, but this way there was still some question - especially because so many were hoping that Sirius would have found a way to communicate with HP with their 2-way mirrors.

The way I saw it, I always thought it didnt have to be a killing curse as it hit him in a somewhat "vital spot". I guess an analogy of sorts would be getting stabbed with a knife. If you get stabbed in the arm, you wouldnt die (well, you could if you lose too much blood) but if you got stabbed in the heart, then you'd probably die.
