Because this is incredibly silly.

Apparently they decided to make a home because we ended up leaving the grill outside for so long. This was the best I could take before they started to stir. I have a few options to go about. I will NOT use wasp spray because I want my grill to still cook stuff without being paranoid that I didn't scrub off some man-made poisons. Here are the options I considered.

1. Open grill. Hose and blast the nests off. Risk angry wasps after me later on because of said hose.
2. Seal off the openings. Stick in 9 smoke bombs in the opposite end of the grill and seal that off last. Choke em to death.
3. Take up a makeshift beekeeper's outfit and try to move the nests out to a nearby tree. Chances of getting stung will be stupidly high. Obviously won't do, but it was just a thought.

I thought of fire, but I'd like the grill intact, thank you very much. Will take pictures depending on what happens. Will try to get a clearer picture before I actually remove said nests. If any has any better ideas, I'm open to them. I got a BBQ party tomorrow, which means that problem needs to be taken care of within the next ~8 hours or so.

Light up something to set off some carbon monoxide. Close off your grill and then they should all die in a bit.

If you do go with the smoking option, have fun cleaning out a pomegranate ton of bee corpses LOL

If they all fall to the bottom you could clean it off easy, no?

I suppose, but even though they're dead, the very sight of them would creep the pineapple out of me.

Shouldn't have cooked with honey BBQ.

Also above image is a lie, a very few breed of wasps make honey. They will, indeed pineapple your pomegranate up unfortunately.

Wasps are on my list of the worst things in the world. Right after cancer.

We had a large family of mice living in our grill. That was absolutely disgusting; the wasp issue would be a breeze (minus the issue of possible stingings).

Alrighty, so I woke up, and my mom was in the kitchen, about to take care of the problem herself. Fortunately, I stopped her and gave my idea so she wouldn't risk getting stung. Took out what I needed.

I decided to take one more picture before I proceeded. One by the way? That first photo was a good couple months old.
 Spoiler
The second nest grew some more. I wondered where the rest of the wasps went. Guess they were foraging for food around my mom's backyard garden. YES I'm surrounded by plants and flowers and shit. And see in the upper left corner? They were starting to make a THIRD nest.

Interesting note, my backyard and the railings are all one huge garden. Got vegetables and flowers all around me. The flat railings of the entire backyard deck? All have wooden flower boxes with obviously, lots of flowers and some green onions in one box. Backyard? One 15' tree, 2 treelings we order earlier this year, and 3-5 different vegetables growing. You can probably now see why the wasps were so happy to make a home and why they freaking proliferated inside the grill. The whole area around them is pretty much paradise. Sadly, they have to go.

 Spoiler
Prepped my materials. Need a light?

 Spoiler
Wasp nest entrance, ghetto sealed!

 Spoiler
Unfortunately I realized there was no practical way to toss in all 9 smoke bombs without opening the grill. Last thing I needed was risking the yellow buggers' ire. I just lit and tossed in a couple instead, because the entrance was too small to reliably light all nine smoke bombs. There was still an impressive amount of smoke. Sadly, my camera phone sucks at capturing smoke, even if it's colored.

Due to photo limit, will make a second and possibly third post with the rest of the pics. No I didn't get stung at all during this whole little incident.

 Spoiler
After waiting a few minutes, it turned out there were a whole lot of them about 10 feet in front of me, buzzing by some plants. I guess I didn't seal up the exits tight enough. Lit another one and toss it in front of me to shoo them away. It worked, for about a few minutes. They then came back and sat around the plants, either chilling, or confused. Don't know which.

 Spoiler
So aftermath. Both nests seemed abandoned now. My mom watched from the glass door as I smoked the grill, and came out with dish washing gloves.

 Spoiler
Took one more. When my mom reached down for the second nest, one wasp suddenly popped out from underneath. I grabbed the hose, and sprayed away the straggler. Good thing the smoke make that wasp dazed enough to not sting. It just flew away. From there on, I kept the hose at the ready for any wasps that started buzzing too close to us.

HEAD'S UP THIS NEXT PART MAY NOT BE FOR THE REALLY FAINT HEARTED. MAYBE.

 Spoiler
So the second nest got removed by my mom, and she made a little interesting discovery. See the right hand? That's two wasp larvae. We dumped it into a garbage bag.

Oh boy, know what that means then? There was a wasp queen. Not sure where the queen is, but I'm sure she is not pleased one bit. *looks over shoulder for a HUGE ass wasp*

BLARG PICTURE LIMIT REACHED. NEEDING A THIRD POST NOW.

 Spoiler
The original nest got pulled out afterwards. It's kind of crazy how big it really is, and how many wasps must have lived inside the grill all this time.

At this point, with the nests gone, all I needed to do now was to scrub the grime and gunk away. Also soap the area so the nests' scents are gone. There were a good dozen wasps all buzzing around the plants and stuff. Interestingly, they didn't sting me or go chasing after me. I was able to calmly use steel wool and scrub the grills, and hose out any crap that accumulated at the bottom of the grill. Maybe the wasps knew they didn't make a home in the most appropriate location, and thus when they got the smoking eviction notice they all went
[Image: face_okay.jpg]

 Spoiler
Last picture. Turned out there were a few dead wasps. I'm guessing it was from the smoking, because I'm sure I'd have found a whole lot more dead wasps in the bottom if they all decided to die inside. Decided to take a picture, because how many times in your life are you going to smoke out your own grill because wasps decided to live there? God my camera sucks at close ups.

Aaaaaand done. Obviously I wasn't going to do something of Something Awful redneck level, since I'm not even white in the first place. Rolleyes

It was still something to have the remaining wasps just buzzing around me and just sticking around. Maybe I overestimated their aggressiveness, since my first thought was they would go Afrianized Honey Bee angry on me for smoking them out and removing their nest right in front of them.

I was going to say you should dress up like a wasp and become their queen. Command an army of wasps.

But smoking them out works too.

The wasps didn't attack you as you demolished their settlement because they were planning their counter-offensive as they buzz about your other plants. You have harmed their young, there will be consequences.

Meh, wish I found this thread in time. Would have recommended that you harness the power of the wasps to create an orbital wasp cannon.

But really dude, excellent solution and it sounds like you actually had quite a bit of fun handling this whole escapade. Glad you managed to come up with a nice solution.

You may want to check all your wooden things in the garden for more. They seem too complacent...
