Training Reference For All Magicians - EchoFaith - 2008-07-05 Pulled straight from my thread on sleepywood, but since I will probably be hanging around here a bit, I figured I might as well post it here as well. This will organize everybody's training grounds and newcomer magicians can use this information. This thread is only meant to serve as a guide to magicians on which training ground members of the magician community have found to be effective for experience, money gain, or both. All that is presented here is the general knowledge that the community has accumulated on what training locations tend to be most effective at the various periods of a character's training life. It is not meant to be a law by which all magicians must follow when they play maple story. If you wish to do something different from what is listed here, you are free to do so. It is likely that deviating from this guide will give you poorer results in training, but it is also possible that you find something even better than what this reference has to offer. If a training place is missing or if a new place comes out, you may send me a PM to have it added. It is possible for me to miss things (though I try not to). If you want me to add something, please provide as much information as possible. Posting things such as level, experience rate, skill build, AP distribution and funding information makes it much easier to see the feasibility of a training method for others.
<Disclaimer> Before getting started, I reserve the right to make changes to this information based on my own experience and on people's suggestion. I do not take any credit for "discovering" good training spots, however I do take credit for scavenging for the information and putting them all into one organized thread for the public to use.
Update History:

Legend $ -- Easy on your pocket; possibly a good gold mine. Remember: possibly. No promises. $ -- Heavy spending. This spot is a potion burning furnace. % -- Awesome experience. Seriously, zomgwtphax0rs kind of experience. % -- Slow experience, maybe very slow. You should have reasons to train here other than for good exp. Full attacker party -- partying to the maximum carrying capacity of the map (for instance, a full Dual Ghost Pirate attacker party is 4-5 people). There are usually priests in full attacker parties. Carrying capacity various from map to map. Party with <specific class> -- This strictly means you party this class with the exception of maybe 1-2 other people in the party for extra killing. "Party with" means that other class and you are always together for each other's skill buffs. Split map with <specific class> -- Very different than "Party with <specific class>". Split map means you go out on your own, killing in your own spot(s). When eachother's skill buffs runs out, just get together and recast. Magicians

Training Reference For All Magicians - Saver - 2008-07-05 What about "Hidden Street: Falling Down" that's located to the left of kerning city with the mass Octopus and Blue mushrooms? Personally, around level 20+, it's a great way to continuously attack and grind as a magician. I've heard of that location a bit when it was released, but I haven't actually been there to try it out or anything. If you have any experience with it, it would be nice if I could hear a bit of it ^^ Training Reference For All Magicians - jessiebelle - 2008-07-05 EchoFaith Wrote:I've heard of that location a bit when it was released, but I haven't actually been there to try it out or anything. (but since i'm a quest whore I usually skip it and stay at pig beach for the pig heads >.>!) Training Reference For All Magicians - Retalion - 2008-07-05 I cant stress it enough and you didnt mention it so I'll ask: Did you ask the thread starter for permission to pull it from over there? As much as guides like these are useful, it should be done with permission. I understand that the original author of this thread is banned on SW but he now posts here so perhaps its good to ask him just out of respect (as I think he probably wont mind). Training Reference For All Magicians - butterfλi - 2008-07-05 she had my "permission" from the start lol. its the thieves one that should annoy you because they cut out all the disclaimer and legal crap that i had. Ohh, my bad for not checking more clearly. I just assumed it was copy and pasted and ripped off SW like the Thief one was. Sorry about that =X Training Reference For All Magicians - Saver - 2008-07-05 Okay, here's my data. Level 17: 2 hit octo, 4-5 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 90int, 12 magic claw. [%] Level 18: 2 hit octo, 3 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 95int, 15 magic claw. [%] Level 19: 1 hit octo, 2 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 100int, 18 magic claw. [%] All I use is the beginner wand. Personally, at level 17, it's FREAKING worth it X_x (as a lukless). You might use alot of pots, but if you know how to work the map...you can guarantee being safe almost 82% of the time. There is 1 absolutely safe spot on the map (bottom right) and you could continuously snipe octos. There is one spot at the top platform where you can be safe as long as you hit the blue mushroom that roam there. If you hit them, they won't jump up to attack you. Bottom platform again, if you notice, the blue mushroom do NOT pass a certain point. All you do is stand a little back and snipe away :3. Watch out for any spawning octos. Either way...you NEVER run out of spawn. It took like 5 - 10 minutes or something for the top spawn to stop. But then you jump down to the safe platform at the bottom side and boom....you snips like 30 octos for free. The spawn NEVER stops for you X_x. Having LOTS of mp pots is a must. Once you pop, the fun don't stop. HP pots are necessary. I used about 100 red pots within 2 levels. They are mainly needed while moving from the bottom to the top. This spot deserves the blue %. If it's "zOMG wtp" for levels 17 - 19, you could imagine at level 20+. ~Saver Training Reference For All Magicians - EchoFaith - 2008-07-05 Thanks for the info Saver. Hidden Street: Falling Down has been added. As for the interesting little side conversation that just happened, I did in fact recieve permisson from butterfli to take over the guide on sleepywood a while back (like 6 months ago?) which was also around the time I took over the thread there. As for this particular topic, I did mention it was my own thread on sw already
Training Reference For All Magicians - Tiff - 2008-07-06 Thanks a lot. This helps me a lot, since I'm kinda confuse on where to train atm. Training Reference For All Magicians - Katie - 2008-07-06 All of these have locations and under them they say who you should be partied with, so what I am wondering is where would be a good place for me to train alone and get decent exp? I'm a lvl 107 priest. Training Reference For All Magicians - EchoFaith - 2008-07-06 there are a few options you have if you want to train alone. if you can find a map to yourself, himes with sr would probably be your best option. otherwise, you would probably be going to train at grims Training Reference For All Magicians - devinmacd33 - 2008-07-08 I always liked this, but one thing I don't get is the "Leafre: Dangerous Dragon Nest" for priests (JNPT) when it seems everyone and thier mom acually trains at "Leafre: Destroyed Dragon Nest" for JNPTs. Training Reference For All Magicians - EchoFaith - 2008-07-08 What is listed in this reference isn't actually where the best locations to train are. Of course, all the best known locations are listed, but there are also several alternatives listed for times such as 2x exp when you aren't able to find a map in the best locations. Training Reference For All Magicians - devinmacd33 - 2008-07-08 "Leafre: Destroyed Dragon Nest" isn't listed at all for priests as far as I can see though? Training Reference For All Magicians - EchoFaith - 2008-07-08 devinmacd33 Wrote:"Leafre: Destroyed Dragon Nest" isn't listed at all for priests as far as I can see though? It is now ;P. Thanks for pointing that out xD Training Reference For All Magicians - GW2000 - 2008-07-08 I just have a suggestion on some places to train during the late 20s and early 30s. Meercats and Kiyos from the couple of maps north of Ariant seem to be pretty good training. They have pretty good spawn rates and the HP to EXP ratios are very nice. They could be a good alternative to Teddies training in Ludi. Training Reference For All Magicians - Cardboardsnail - 2008-07-11 For 40-50 Fire poison, I found Fire arrowing Nightmares in Vanity Room to be decent XP I highly suggest MP eater here since Nightmares have a TON of MP. (2000MP actually) I spent literally 0 MP pots training there from level 40-48 because MP eater was sufficient. They could be a good alternative to Teddies training in Ludi. From my impression of ariant, almost all of the monsters are good at some point between the 2x and 3x level ranges. The problem now is to pick the ones that would be considered the best in the area, mainly because listing all of them will clutter up the thread too much. Cardboardsnail Wrote:For 40-50 Fire poison, I found Fire arrowing Nightmares in Vanity Room to be decent XP um...which vanity room? the haunted house is annoying because with each map name, there are actually 4 different maps, each with varying monsters/spawn etc. as for mp eater, having mp eater or not is more of a build decision rather than a training ground decision. any f/p mage that wishes to have poison in the second job will have to drop mp eater. however, since mp eater has no actual influence on experience rates, it isn't something that is mentioned here. |
