Obviously it's some sort of spouse-search function, specifically for the South East Asian Maplers.

Mate.
Mating.

"Mate", in non-American English, is used to mean "buddy" or "friend".
As in the famous Australian "g'day, mate".

Looking at the GMS buddy window, we have a "FIND FRIEND" button under "ADD GROUP", and have a hole under "GROUP CHAT". So this seems to be their "FIND FRIEND". As for why its name is not fully translated, and it performs no function, only AsiaSoft knows.

Maat is also the Dutch translation for buddy. Smile

Maat (coming from the old germanic māt) is an old (dates from late 1500's) Dutch word for sailors to address each other since it used to be a sailor rank.

I guess it became mixed with English during the time and when the Dutch discovered Australia in 1606.

So every time an Aussie says "mate", they're speaking Dutch! Tongue

And this was another episode of "Unknown history of the World" brought to you by Devil! :+)
