And I still don't see what the big deal is. It was fun but really not the OhEmEfGee exp people seem to present it as and that's accounting for how it's an "old" game.

Obv. because it's rise to fame was during a time when other games couldn't even compete. People are expecting too much with this 3DS crud.

This.

The game was great for it's time, over 10 years ago. It's still nice to play now, but there's better games these days, including better Zeldas.

Considering you like(d?) Duke Nukem Forever I will take your opinion with a grain of salt.

it's the same thing that made SM64 so great, it was waay too advanced for it's time, as everybody said, it's a game that still today, is good, think how good it was when it came out.

not to mention, it's like the one game of the zeldas that links everything together (with to the past)

however, of the 3-D zelda's, my favorite is:

You still tried to break my rose-tinted nostalgia goggles and I do not appreciate that.

I grew up on the Nintendo 64 and my first game was Ocarina of Time; going back on it isn't the same, but it's still a great game. Already stated, you're surrounded by pomegranate that makes OoT look like crap now, and since you never played it when it was prevalent, it's definitely going to be a different situation all together.

Like everyone here basically said, you never played it when it was a prevalent game.
When it came out, it was of a much higher quality than anything else out there (barring Super Mario 64). Of course compared to today's games it's not the best thing in the world, but that's the point; The game came out in an entirely different era of gaming, and in that era, it was one of the kings.

You've played so many games that built off the original that the original doesn't seem all that innovative or fantastic anymore. Same applies for games like Super Mario 64, or Goldeneye, or Halo. Good games that are still good games (except Goldeneye) that were the face of a genre when they came out, but the ideas and style have been reused and improved on so many times that people who are newly exposed to those games will have a hard time seeing why they caused such a stir at the time.

I kind of have to disagree. Going back and playing Ocarina of Time every once in a while yields not only a ton of nostalgic memories, but the same feelings as I had when I played through the original all of those years ago. Every time I play Ocarina of Time, I feel the same way I felt when I played it the first time.
