"Except in the United States". - Rick - 2011-04-03 This has happened in all four of my classes this semester. Maths- "Everyone uses the metric system, except in the US". Economics- "Everyone does it by this calculation, except the US". Accounting- "These standards are generally accepted everywhere, except the US does their own thing". Commercial Law- "You'll find this is pretty standard in most of the world, except the US". Honestly, do you guys endeavour to be pains in the asses? "Except in the United States". - Razmos - 2011-04-03 Color Colour. WHY!? Awkward Americans. "Except in the United States". - Corn - 2011-04-03 It was something like our Founding Fathers didn't want to do anything that the British did during the Revolutionary War. Just like y'all have to learn our way, we have to learn y'all's way. (Assuming you all learn how we do things.)

You left out Fahrenheit vs Celsius too. If it's any consolation a good number of people in the US wonder why we stick with such absurdities too instead of standardizing. The downside is most of those expect the rest of the world to change to match us.

But the Imperial system was created by Britain. I would say the americans are more stubborn than anything so they tend to not change even if by not changing their having problems, IE: Guns sold in regular stores due to being one of the ten amendments. Our screw sizes are pretty much the only measurement we use the old English system for. It's the fault of all those engineering weirdos. We should, and are able to. We just do it in a Pineappled-up way. The metric system is WAY better. Seriously, were the people who designed our system retarded? Systems of tens, and to go from one section (say, milli) to another (centi), just multiply by ten to go to the next largest section, or divide by ten to go down a section, vs. screwed up sections, completely un-specified number of measurements in a section (12 inches in a foot, then three feet in a yard, whatever number of yards in a mile). Metric is way better. (And this is just the length measurements.) PS: By section, I mean, like, grouping of measurements. say inches, millimeter, feet, meters, ect.
