Ergonomics - Extremely Neutral - 2011-01-06

Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability.

Speaking from personal experience being a long time player of MapleStory; there were moments where my fingers ached and my neck was a little sore. Here are some tips on how to improve your quality of life.

SEATED POSTURE:

You sit on your ass grinding hours on end. Might as well sit the right way.

GAMEPAD:

A keyboard is designed for typing. The basic controls in MapleStory are placed in awkward places around the ctrl, alt, and direction keys. I highly recommend using a gamepad so that your fingers rest comfortably on each button instead of sprawling your fingers on the keyboard to reach a certain key.

Here is a basic layout that I've been using for a while:

Other tips:
-Take a break every hour. Stand up and stretch or walk around for a minute.
-Don't place skill hokeys on ctrl, alt, or shift keys. You might accidentally alt tab or activate sticky keys or something similar.
-Place npc chat hotkey on 'y' key to skip through npc dialogue.
-Place potions and skills that have cooldown timers on your visible hotkeys on the quick slot in the lower right so you always know how many potions you have left or when you can reuse a skill.
