This forum's probably the least active of the main sections. Why is this? I think it's because it's not being used properly. Granted, not every post should be an essay written up to Ivy League expectations, but if you put little thought into what you're going to say, in what way is it an intelligent discussion forum?

If you're going to state an opinion, you need to support it with facts.

If you want to rebut someone, you need to use facts. Evidence is strongly encouraged, but not required.

I'm open to more suggestions on what to do here, but I don't want it as strict as Sleepywood's IDK. I rarely ever posted there, even though I often wanted to, because I was afraid of getting warned for not posting a dissertation. I don't want the same thing to happen here, but this is a little too lax.

I'm not too sure, the only problem I see with this is that people seem to be using the Speakeasy for topics that could be in here, and that there's simply no interesting topics happening in here. Perhaps starting a few "official whatever discussion threads" could help? Although then we still need something on that topic to discuss.

I don't really get the point. Sorry ._. Could you explain yourself a bit more?

Thanks in advance :3.

I think the idea is that people don't get the difference between Speakeasy and this.

To a lesser degree, Speakeasy and Funhouse as well. Though there are definitely some threads that 100% belong in Funhouse.

Does my quotes thread count as intelligent discussing? =D

that's exactly the issue. You might notice that several threads moved out of here, and that's why I did it.

People are kind of abusing the Rubik's cube section, as you said. Half the time people are wrong on what they did wrong in the first place >.<

here's a reason why

also back at sw, for each subforum, there was at least one sticky to explain what the forum is and about. i see the rc here lacks that. all people know about this forum is its about "Rubik's Cube: Intelligent conversation". people hate writing essays for school as it is. no way they're gonna write essays in their free time over the internets just to get people to discuss about it (some people might, but sp is mostly high schoolers. they have other things they'd rather be thinking about).

also evident that people have on idea what this place is exactly about is all the threads i see that was moved just from the main page alone.

5 threads moved and 2 threads closed.

Oh, wow, I just found an amazing site today, which is definitely within this section. Maybe this will bring up the spirit in Fiel and other programmers?

Well the moved threads were Isaac's doing right before/after posting this thread, but the closed ones were flame wars that were getting out of hand.

Yeah, he tried, but he's not capable of dealing with the kind of people who post here. As you said, this is mostly high schoolers who aren't interested in writing essays. And an "essay" section is exactly what I DON'T want this to become. Think of this thread as a way to formulate the Sticky that will explain this section's purpose. I'm opening this up for suggestions because the people who visit this forum are the ones who are going to be posting here, and it seems ridiculous to me to go and set rules that prevent this from getting used. If the members want stricter, IDK-like rules, we can have that. if they don't care about this section's existence at all, we can do that too. I'm looking for something in between the pointless laxity that exists at the moment and strict rules that discourage posting.

Huh? Who's "he"

Anyway, I think a general rule of thumb is that anything worth posting here should be something that people have to digest and contemplate a bit before/while posting. If you can quote a post and type a reply within 10 seconds, then it probably doesn't belong unless it happens to be something you've seen and thought about before.

Of course, that isn't a precise definition of what the section's about, but just a possible guideline of sorts.
