Especially small Japanese/Chinese tea cups? I attended a Japanese Sushi-night party on Sunday, 2 days ago. There was a total of 5 courses, and also a Japanese tea-ceremony. I got to witness one, which was really awesome. Of course most of the RSVP'ed guests were around their early 30's or older, me and a couple of my friends were there as well.

But yeah, we got a really cool wooden-cup after drinking tea with everyone. Tea definitely tastes different from a wooden-cup, I can't define why though. I know for a fact that wood tends to 'absorb' water rather well, but that doesn't explain why. I was drinking a really powerful type of Green Tea called "Macha" or something. I'll have to Google it, as well as show pictures from the Sushi-night. Hmmm

Oh, wait, it's called Matcha, here are pics I found on Google:

Apparently, a small cup like the above, is equivalent to 6-7 powerful cups or glasses of regular green tea.

At a Japanese festival my school was holding, they had a little tea ceremony demonstration and they had a cup very similar to that (along with the whisk... thing). I didn't really care for the taste but it was interesting nonetheless.

If it is not similar to the type of tea you are used to it is going to taste different. Tea drinking can be as challenging as wine drinking. There are tea "sommeliers" out there as well. If you are used to the typical bagged/iced/powdered tea that real stuff is going to taste pomegranate different.

I've drank 'real' tea, trust me on this. I have various types of herbal tea in my house, and I love all of it. It's just that type of tea felt.. different. Maybe because it was Matcha + wooden cup, but yeah?

Typically, I drink Green, Jasmine, Pu'er (Bo lay in Cantonese), Chrysanthemum (or a mixture of Pu'er and Chrysanthemum, called Gook Bo in Cantonese), and Bubble Tea (if that even counts Tongue

). How about you guys?

I've drank Green, Jasmine, Chrysanthemum (sp?) , as well as Bubble Tea once too. I thought Bubble Tea was.. different, seriously. Yes, Matcha is very strong.. the smell of it is literally overwhelming, it smells like leaves. The coloration of the cup was literally my Night Lord's hair color, it was THAT pungent. Let me upload some pics.

Also, I forgot, but I think the guy that was demonstrating that tea said '2 ounces' of it in powder form was about 10 dollars. However, just by adding the powder onto the very TIP of a teaspoon is enough to create a boiling pot filled with Matcha tea. Or so that guy said..

Eh, that tea looks like the typical tea served at a Japanese restaurant. Or are you showing off the wooden cups? I certainly wouldn't drink off a wooden cup.. probably dirty still.

And Bubble Tea isn't really tea anymore. The original flavour was Milk Tea and that's why the drink's name now has Tea in it. I usually get fresh mango or strawberry Bubble Tea Tongue

Oh, well, sorta both. That tea and the cups? I enjoyed the cup's simple yet elegant design, as well as the tea's coloration and taste.

I believe the cup clay covered in lacquer? And I know some cups are made from Bamboo.
I'm going to take a hot guess and say the taste is more of the affect of matcha powder instead of the cup if it's like the one in the picture.
The closest thing I know of the container or pot affecting the taste of tea is Purple Clay pots, I know very little about such pots though.

I had Matcha before, and the taste definitely isn't worth the price. Just feels good knowing I was able to try it once. Apparently it contains a lot of <insert healthy substance here> and no other food can even come close to the levels Matcha has.

Also, Matcha Ice Cream is yummy :3

Personally, I'm really picky about my tea. I hate that Tazo Tea crap they sell at Starbucks. Tastes like crap. Depends on how the tea is made, I enjoy it based on the flavor and the water quality. Yeah, I'm seriously like.. picky. I drink tea a lot.. so yeah. <_<; I personally enjoyed Matcha, because it was really new to me, and I would definitely pay 10 dollars for a couple ounces. Just to try out again though, I wouldn't do that on a weekly basis or anything though.

Yea, that stuff is expensive. I haven't tried drinking it, but just going by the taste, I think I'd prefer it to stay on my desserts and out of my tea cup, kthx. The wooden cups you were having with your meal looks like bamoboo to me.

i went to a sushi restaurant before and the green tea is served in a ceramic type cup. has no taste but i like.

Matcha is a very nice tea - i dont think theres too much of a differance wooden/ceramic cups personaly, i do belive that setting and atmoshphire may have added to your enjoyment of it, japanese tea-ceremonys are good fun Smile
