The riddle thread. - Jeni - 2008-07-17

I wasn't sure if there was a riddle thread yet, and after checking around I didn't find one so
I decided to start one (: Secondly, I wasn't sure if this belonged in the Rubik's Cube section
or Funhouse, so if I made a mistake, please move for me d:

Now let's start. Yee.

==============================================================

Name the word of three syllables, that when you take away five letters a male will remain.
If you take away four letters, a female will remain. If you take away three lettters, a great
man will appear. The entire word shows you what Joan of Arc was.

Haha yeah. Guess that was too easy x_x

Two convicts are locked in a cell. There is an unbarred window high up in the cell. No matter if
they stand on the bed or one on top of the other they can't reach the window to escape.
They then decide to tunnel out. However, they give up with the tunneling because it will
take too long. Finally one of the convicts figures out how to escape from the cell.
What is his plan?

The riddle thread. - xCenario - 2008-07-17

Well, what about standing on the bed, then on top of another, and one escapes. (If you get my point)

The riddle thread. - (D-_-)-D - 2008-07-17

There is a wide river and a narrow old bridge across it. In order to cross the bridge during the
night, one has to carry a
flashlight, and at most two people can cross the bridge together (using the same flashlight.) The bridge is so unsafe that noone can even stay on it without a
flashlight. If two people cross
together, they move at the speed of the slower person. One night during a war, four soldiers end up on one
side of the bridge while running from the other army. The soldiers need to cross the bridge in at most 17
minutes in order to escape. However, they have only one flashlight. Due to some injuries it is going to take
each soldier 1, 2, 5 and 10 minutes, respectively, to cross the bridge individually. It is easy to see that the
soldiers can cross the bridge in 19 minutes. Would they be able to cross it in 17 minutes and thus escape?

As for the cell one, I have no idea. I think I've heard it though, and iirc, it's something simple.

For the jail cell, it's pretending you're dead, and when the guards come, knock one out and escape with your jail cell buddy.

The riddle thread. - Trinity - 2008-07-18

A Volunteer man named jerry decided to get tested for human's ability to figure out a challenge. He was given 6 hours to complete the test. He walked into the room, its dark, and wet. The walls are blocked cement. NO windows. There is a little ceiling lamp, and a big gigantic Vault door blocking the room off. The room is about 6 feet in height. So Jerry Trys pushing the door open, but it didnt work. So Jerry sat for an hour to figure out the best solution. He Pulled down a metal brace from the lamp, and started whacking the wall near the door. He started to chip it out. His hands were already bloody. He kept going, till he hit wire. His arms felt like jello, and the brace broke. He sat in the darkness until time ran out.

Jerry asked the head of this expirement if he was right about how he tried to get out. The man said "No, and yes."

How could have Jerry gotten out?

For the riddle about the cellmates, they use the dirt from tunneling to add height and stand on the mound to escape. Heard that one in my Senior Biology class two years ago. Tongue

I would say that he could've chipped at the ceiling and escaped. If there's a lamp being suspended, the ceiling should be weak.

XXXylophone11 Wrote:How many birthdays does an average 36 year old female have who is born on February 29th at 12:00 Midnight?

Really depends on how you think about this. If it's been Feb. 29th all day and it just turns 12:00 AM, then it's technically March 1st, so then the answer would be 36.

But, if it's been Feb. 28th all day and assuming it's a Leap Year and it does hit 12:00 AM, then it'd be a birth on Feb. 29th, so then the answer would be 9.

I'm assuming you meant the former of the two, so I'll say 36.
