Drinking is as old as civilisation, and so is smoking but that's why cigarettes are legal, and marijuana is decriminalised in Canada and legal in the Netherlands.

That's true, but cannabis was primarily used as a hallucinogenic in India and Europe, whereas tobacco was used in a more religious or shamanistic fashion.
