Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
Star Force is the new equipment enhancement system. After months of collecting data, feedback and changes it is finally ready to be released to the public server.
You can use Star Force once you have used up all the upgrade slots of your equipment. This system was designed because the previous equipment enhancement system was horrible. Not to mention the exclusive game breaking Miraculous Enhancement Equipment Scrolls. Star Force is now designed to give all users better accessibility and to rely less on Cash items to enhance an item. Developers have also said they're gradually changing more elements to rely less on Cash items.
The developers have just released the official data for Star Force:

Stage = Stars.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
On top of that, there's a video of a guy enhancing his tyrant shoes in KMST:

Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
45% success rate at 10 stars is pretty generous
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
Thank you. Some questions:
1) Does failure = boom?
2) Does this system give the same stat increases per successful enhancement as the old EE/AEE scrolls do (including the higher values for Superior equipment)?
2.1) Is the amount of stat increase fixed or random?
3) Do EE/AEE scrolls still work?
3.1) If so, do they still behave as they did before?

Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
Pretty good system, except for the meso costs. Getting mesos from normally playing the game is pretty hard, and while I understand some people swim in a never-ending supply of mesos and we very much need a meso sink, others don't have anything and therefore cannot really profit from this system. In DFO, the system is similar but the money cost, while being fairly expensive, is easily farmable. If there was more ways to earn mesos in maplestory (a functionning auction house and drops that are actually worth something) would be a good start.

I'm pretty sure the failure column is boom chance. Only 1% chance for 12-15 stars is really low, and if it booms you still have those new equipment traces so all you have to do is scroll the slots again if you had good potential.
Lol @ 1% success rate 40% boom and 100m per try for a 25 star item. And yet i know every KMS "top player" will have 25 star stuff.

Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
So they've decided to combat Miraculous Enhancement Scrolls with this? A 15 star MEE'd 160 ATT base weapon could hit 509 ATT and a 25 star weapon with this system could hit 443. Sure it's a much better system in general but really what's the point? It's still pretty broken.
What are the stats given to armour and accessories like? Currently they give a random stat +2/3 (ish) per star, I'm guessing they refined that slightly?

Don't forget we're supposed to get a new high level equipment set to replace fafnir stuff in the september update.
I think we can honestly say with no sarcasm that everyone is looking forward to our equipment being trash again. :f3:

At least this time everyone can join in with the power creep instead of just the super funded since the Star Force system seems pretty easy. Yay equality!

I think I was reading somewhere that MEE items are going to have a blue name to them and can't be enhanced to more than 15 stars.

Seems fair enough. MEEs + Star Force would make for some extremely unbalanced items. Though I don't even know what 'unbalanced' means anymore in terms of equipment.
I'm still not convinced this is a good thing for MapleStory, unless they do just want everyone to be able to hit max damage now so the pay2win thing is reduced. Seems like such a stupid way to go about it though.
Also, I just realised the super high amount of STR on that Tyrant boot in the video is very likely from additional options, which would suggest that the Star Force system gives Tyrant equips the same stats as the current enhancement system, but still not sure about other gear. I hope it gives a fixed amount of stats rather than a random selection from a pool of just about everything.
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
at the very least it seems like this system is really really good for the unfunded, and makes it so enhancing anything other than tyrants + weapons is actually worthwhile.
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
Do the usage limits still apply to (reg/superior) wards? It'd seem like quite a gamble if you couldn't protect your item(s) from exploding as the number of stars go up.

I disagree. every cost sub 10* is a pretty manageable cost and better success rate than the current system(and you should already have enough equipment slots to get 5-10 stars on each and not have to worry about star zones). If you are worrying about paying for stars at that point, you MUST have done something for your current set of armor already. If you are part of the underfunded group of people, you really shouldn't be looking at profiting from enhance scrolls in the first place. the difference between DFO's economy and MS is that MS' economy is driven by demand, where to profit means to farm high demand event items(e.g unique potential scrolls, protection scrolls, lucky day scrolls) compared to DFO's more general farm as quest items do play in the market and the crafting system is a bit more intertwined with gameplay than MS is.
Rule of thumb in ANY game is that low % success rate high risk stuff should NEVER be for the unfunded in MMO's or similar. its purely designed for the rich.

Except great items blowing up carries at least 95% less risk than it used to because of equipment traces.

When items blow up you'll get a "scroll" that gives the blown up item's exact potential/bonus pot/presumably neb lines to use on something with the same name.

1) Yes. I edited the image to reflect this change.
2) I don't know what the increases of stats are from the EE/AEE scrolls. I believe the stat increase is fixed, but I am not sure about that. I am going to try the system out tomorrow when it is released. The enhancement UI shows you how much the stats will increase per star. I'll let you know once it is officially released.
3) Yes. No changes were made to these scrolls.
And yes, MEE'd equipment have blue stars instead of yellow. This doesn't matter for other regions since MEE scrolls remain exclusive to Korea.
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
An actual table with probability figures? Some transparency! No wai!
Let me see one of these for Cubes please.
Did they change Protect Scroll to work for items with more than 12 Stars? If not, I still wouldn't risk 12+ on my weapon or anything else I scrolled with Anniversary Scrolls. Tyrant, Nova or even Helisium items become far more palatable for YOLO Starring purposes since Takebacker reminded me of Equipment Traces and the fact that those items' scrolling isn't so important or significant.

Didn't MSEA get something similar to MEEs?

Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
yes if u hav 5. 10, 15, 20 stars, your items will not down under 5, 10, 15, 20 star. http://file.maplestory.nexon.com/NX_...7519779895.png left to right, star level, success rate, maintain rate, down rate, boom rate, cost. average cost for success of 25 star is 33 billion. one more thing. if u fail twice in consequence, next success rate is 100 %
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
i like this system so much more. that cost after 10 stars though, shudders

And that just goes up to 150, imagine the cost to enhance Sweetwater gear once we get it. (Or if you kept the Lv200 Tot's Trial Bottom for whatever reason)

this is the result of increase of weapon power per star force's 1 star
0~ 49 - 1
50~99 - 2
100~149 - 3
150 ~ 199- 4
200 ~ 249 - 5
250 ~ 299 - 6
300 ~ 349 - 7
350 ~ 399 - 8
400 ~ 449 - 9
490 ~ 500 - 10 / after 15 star, increase stat is settle, even it's over 500 or 300
its increase is same as AEE, AND STANDARD OF POWER = WEAPON POWER(SCROLLED) - WEAPON'S ADDITIONAL POWER
what you guys call AEE, EE, MEE?
nah, i found it. but do u knew that? after stsr force, there' no bounder between EE, AEE. so i just tell you MEE. MEE's stat increase is depend on item level. so i'll tell you based on 150 items.
1 - stat:+19 power:same as EE
2 - stat:+21 power:same as EE
3 - stat:+23 power:same as EE
4 - stat +25 power:same as EE
5 - stat: +27 power:same as EE
after five, there's no increase of stat
6-power:EE (+9)
7-power:EE (+10)
8-power:EE(+11)
.....
12-power:EE(+15)
reason of high increase of mee is it makes item become superior. so when you inchant mee on item, its stat us increase like superior item. it was become clear by kms user. but it's error that it makes itme superior. but nexon didnt fix it. thx for this nexon. oh, ladt thing, star force's 25 star is simillar with MEE's 15 star
any question?

(A)EE = Advanced Equipment Enhancement
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HRd9LaImxk
I recorded enhancing the platinum cross hunter ring and the evolution sunglasses. All my other gear have upgrades left so I can't enhance it yet.
But from the video you can see what stats it gives each star to accessories.

Just a note, even the first star on a Tyrant costs 55m, and it only goes up from there.

Well with 2x I've gotten like 7%~8% in around 15~20 mins.
it's pretty nice
55k/61k exp per mob with decent spawn, they have 18/21m hp per mob.

I searched it up for you and I found this table:
http://i.imgur.com/LoVEMZn.png
From left to right it's Enhancement Stage, Success Rate, Destruction Rate, Failure Rate (downgrade), Cost (in mesos), Average Total Cost (in mesos), Average Total Cost (in 100m). I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate though, I can't seem to find what Superior item they tested on, and it's from the test server v. 1.2.509 but it should be ok, that patch was the final update to the enhancement system anyway.

The sixth row is the average cost to reach that rank and total, not just the total.

Yeah I guess it would be more accurate to say its the 'average total cost', I'll fix that.
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
Oh wow, I assumed that the cost for Superior Equipment would rise exponentially.
The success rates for the first starts are quite terrible, but oh man, 35% for the last 8 stars is kind of amazing. Too bad there's no way to protect destruction for Superior Equipment over 7 stars.
-
Re: Star Force (new equipment enhancement system)
I think they should lower the boom rate and increase the failure rate, It's quite high, It'd say a 1/4 less is a fair amount for higher levels, or let us use protection scrolls, but that would make the system way too broken.
-

Cool, thank you! It seems like it would be much cheaper to use the no boom AEEs + Guardian Scrolls in GMS.. dunno how 7+ star Tyrants happen in KMS though.

No booms don't exist, unless some hacker/botter/hoarder has one from ages ago (roughly 2 years ago from feather boxes), and if they do they would sell it for billions well not anymore but yeah.

so nexon noobproof EE and kills the economy-equivalent scrolls. 1 step closer to a singleplayer game.:f7:
what's next? potential bonus become multiplicative instead of additive?
suppose 8 equips got 24% potential each, it would be 192% additively and 559% multiplicatively. that's almost 3x more.
I wouldn't be surprised if 5th job end up being hyper 2.0 where it enhance your 4th jobs further and raise the dmg cap to 32 bits. :f3:

Maybe I missed the memo, but I'm going to ask anyway.
What happened to equips that already had stars on them prior to this system being added? Were they just left as is, or they were reset down to an unstarred state (either losing the previous bonus stats, or keeping them?)

Willing to believe they're left as is, resetting them to an unstarred state would be a total plantain move on their part.

It depends, if the stat boosts are different from these, which they appear to be from spadows video, it could be more of a plantain move to not reset them, or recalculate the stats (at least to some extent).

I don't think so, besides if you really want to you can just explode your weapon and start over with enhances. I really hope they allow nebulites to remain on the equipment traces.
I know common class equipment get better bonuses, more stats aimed at your class rather than trying to randomly decide on a stat.

Pretty sure it doesn't matter if it's clean or not, I've been able to put scrolled equipment into the Equipment Trace tab just fine. I'd wait on some more concrete proof, though.

Hokay, was preparing some equips along with their spares in anticipation for this update.
The testing shouldn't be too difficult; any low-level equipment should do it, eh?

Don't you need to boom the item with Star Force? Means you'd have to get an item that can go past 12 stars.

No clue if this counts, but when I boomed my sword while going for 15 stars, I transferred the equipment trace to a sword that had a pre-existing PB soul on it (otherwise clean). All the stats of my old sword transferred over, including my emp soul on my trace overriding the PB soul. I'm going to assume that you can use any piece of equipment.
