How was your day today? - DotA 2 Edition

As implied in the name of the thread (inspired by the original "How was your day?" thread in the Speakeasy as well as the sister thread in the League of Legends subforum), this is a place to post about your day in DotA 2!

In a nutshell, this thread is relatively open-ended, as it is a place for you to post little things about your day in DotA 2 that may not be applicable to other threads. If you want to post about your day in DotA2, complain about things that went wrong in a match or brag about plays that happened in matches that made your day, express your frustrations about the game, funny videos about DotA 2, anything and everything else relevant to DotA 2 that has defined your day - here is the place for you!

Why did I make this thread?

Even though LoL and DotA 2 are rivals in the MOBA/RTS genre (and the fact I play LoL extensively), we still share quite a bit in common. I thought I'd reach out and help you guys start this thread off.

Day started in a rather crappy way. Randomed Skeleton King, which I don't think I've played before but I've seen enough to get an idea. I'm asked to jungle, which I'm ok with since I had practiced a lot of that with several different heroes but I made a huge mistake, I stacked the small camp right away. I had only clear 1/3 that spawn at :30 when I stacked and the new ones were those annoying Kobolds that heal everything around them. SK's attack animation is obnoxiously slow, and I just couldn't kill the 5 of them fast enough. I burnt all my regen in the first 5 minutes being only level 2. After 15mins I caught up a bit, but missing for so long made my team loose :(

Yeah Skeleton King isn't exactly the best hero to start off jungling even if he has that vampric aura for lifesteal. He doesn't have enough damage or bonus damage from any skills that he can use to kill the creeps fast enough like Lifestealer or Ursa.

My day started off pretty intense but a great game with Batrider, I almost got first blood but tanked way too much damage from the Kunkka and Creeps. However I followed up with two kills off Kunkka afterwards with a DD rune and illusions. Our team composed of 1 mid, 3 supports, and 1 carry while other team had 1 hard carry, 3 semi- carries, and 1 support. So I guess we did have an edge with our disables on their carries to win but it took longer than usual from our over extension throughout the game.

Skeleton King is a horrible jungler and he should never be played that way. He's literally one of the slowest junglers in the game at level 1.

I wish I had know that before agreeing to that :( I should've figured when I could only kill one creep in the easy camp in 20secs.
Earlier today I had several bot matches to practice jungle again with heroes that can actually get something done there just so that the next time I get to jungle I don't fail miserably.

I couldn't watch most of it because they were cleaning this room and I watched parts of each game. I'm not 100% sure, but some games weren't stomps but certainly one sided.
I think the first one was the only that felt like a stomp, or whichever it was that final score was like 21-1.

EDIT: There were some nice plays so I think it's worth it to watch the replays :)

Na'Vi is just an overall better team, I love mouz but that's facts.

I finally got a win as Weaver. Thank the Alchemist for ricing so hard that he could 1 vs 5 people easily. Yes it's a Compendium Match.

*My matches with Alchemist have been terrible. I can farm, but the first time I've been placed with Russians on each side, and people don't ward the map at all. The other lanes would be lost. Doom somehow managed to outfarm me. Plus I keep getting caught in Clockwerk Hook + Cogs or Doom. Sigh it's so hard to have fun trying to play a carry when the ones playing supports don't buy wards or do things like Disrupt when Lina ults a target.

Has anyone been actively looking at the "Unique players per month" thing on the official blog? It's been going up with 50+k every day for the past few days.

Started to play again after a long break. 3 games so far with 2 excellents bounty hunters and an horrible venomancer(I never learned how to use it as a support .__.)

I just had one of those awfully weird games. Randomed Brood Mother first and after that no one picked support, we were actually 4 melees too. I lane with a Sand Kind hoping that I could get ok-ish farm there but nope! He gets almost every last hit because he wants "mana boots and blink for early dominance". Even if he landed 5 man burrow strike I had no items to finish even the squishiest support. Bought courier and upgrade, wards to deward and farm a bit but nope! :D Mid game I couldn't stay in a lane for more than 2 creep ways because if I went with someone I wouldn't get any farm and since I went alone I'd get ganked if I didn't leave after a couple creep waves. Sand King never stopped farming all game, by the end he had 300+ last hits or so. It's even funnier because the two carries, Spectre and I, would've done wonders with the farm but we didn't get any decent farm until very very late.
Somehow they threw the game.

UPDATE: Am I terrible? Matchmaking supposed to team me with people around my skill level, they improved in the last patch or whatever yet another game with clueless people... 30min Zeus that only has bottle, mana boots and I'm guessing he was building an armlet. Tinker that uses march 10 times top in a 30min game, boots of travel used once or twice only. Am I that clueless?

My attempts to play a carry more instead of support continue to be hell. Lag spikes one game so I fed for ~1/4 the game as Weaver, and 2nd game today as an Alchemist the QoP AFKed out of the game and Gyro decided to lane against me so I lost the lane indefinitely.

Started bad ended WORSE...
Lost 4 out of 4.
In two of them we had useless MEEPO...
You can imagine how bad was the feedin.
On the other two well it was lack of communication with the team and NOT organizing the lanes.

Finished my TA third insight set :D, good day.

Won two matches in the morning, wasn't completely sure how to play Bristleback but he's quite easy and fun. People chasing/diving me almost to fountain but they just couldn't get a kill was amazingly funny.
However, in the afternoon I wanted to practice/learn some heroes I haven't played in a while, but bot matches are just pointless after 10-15mins, when lane phase is over... and even then if I'm not mid it's a headache. Oh, and that's if the lanes aren't stupid, like sending two carries to the same lane.
Anyway, I played Medusa and bots won 4vs5 while I farmed. Enemy bots just wouldn't defend their towers or anything. Once I had two big items and joined tier 3 push, enemy bots would just stay in front of tier 4s without doing anything. What's the point?
Then, a Slardar game in which I couldn't farm for a min or so because of support illusions autoattacking... why does a support gets a rune? And why do they have to auto attack when they get it? Later on in the same game, once I have ulti, I ping on enemy Drow Ranger and charge on... while the suppot bot who is in my lane just stands around doing nothing. When they gank on their own it's great because they chain stun perfectly but they have no coordination when it's me who wants to do something.
Heroes that depend on farm or ganks feel just pointless in a bot game.

i had fun.

Me, Chew, and his friend were all stacked up against a team full of new players with only <10 wins. I'm not sure if I did the best thing by exposing them to the Cancer this early in this DotA career, but I had lots of fun split pushing and watching funny stuff like Spirit Breaker using his Ultimate on my illusions. Granted though, they had massive trouble when Night Stalker on their team, who was really competent at ganking me, got D/Ced. So things probably would have been more even if Night Stalker remained.

Haha well it was entertaining.

JEZZUS CHRIST THE GAME IS SO MUCH EASIER WHEN YOU CAN TALK TO YOUR TEAM AND COORDINATE SOME ATTACKS!

God that was an awful experience. Apparently telling them that i'm going arcanes into mek makes them think that i'm going carry doom? Weird stuff.

It may also have to do with the fact that you're improving compared to when you first started.

Pretty much just with the basics.
I haven't played not even with the half of the heroes.

I need to improve at mid. I feel like once I start ganking, I forget to keep farming and end up really behind. Which is fine as a support but not so much as a semi-carry.

Played some games with my friends, then I decided to play a game with Words and a friend of mine. Which didn't turn out well cause PA our hard carry failed to farm and had terrible starting items. I had to go damage items with doom but only really managed to get AC and Vlads while Words went Utility as Tusk. My friend went Nyx and got good ganks, while we had an annoying Leshrac who kept criticizing everyone on the team. Game was single draft and other team had strong lineup of BH, LD, Naix, Kotl, and Tidehunter.

Sorry Words for bringing you to such a crappy match. =/

Nah, it's ok. It was my fault not noticing my lane partner was doing horrible... and I've never actually played carry tusk so even when I decided to go for carry-like items I was a bit clueless and incredibly late. But yeah, Leshrac was seriously obnoxious, it was pointless to b'itch so much when game had been lost because of PA's poor farming skills compared to the line up they had.

Also, that last game was tedious but fun... why did they take so f'ucking long? ._. I'm happy that I landed a couple good shackles. Pretty ashamed at the last time I used my sheep stick... was trying to get pudge but hit a creep instead lol. Those 5 man stacks are awesome because even if we loose it's fun, hope we can keep doing it often! :D

I was spectating that match. I was amazed that all it took to swing the team fight in the enemy's favor was one Refresher Orb. It was a really long tug-of-war. You guys had more disables, but they had Nature's Profit split pushing like no tomorrow, plus Mirana to get her team out even if she was as fragile as paper.

One game as Undying, Huskar on my team balled out of control with a Divine Rapier near the end, and I didn't die a single time that whole game. It was amazing.

Next game, not so much. I saw we had no hard carry, so I went Medusa after hearing no objections. The guy who was going to go Lich went Naga, and Kunkka on my team fed the enemy Clinkz so hard. I could have gone Earthshaker instead...

It wasn't the Refresher Orb, Sniper didn't react fast enough to hit BKB.

Regarding last night match, I had a couple of friends who watched the whole game.
They even brought some snacks to watch it, and at some point they even bet about the match. So yeah, one of my friends lost $10 bucks for that match.

After a terrible game of feeding a pro Slardar as Skywrath Mage, felt good to get a good game in as Dark Seer. Wall just killed things. Felt good to have 33 assists. I really hated the laning phase though. Screwed up so very much.

It was quite amusing to see the enemies hit a wall (pun not intended) when you guys as Weaver and Tiny just got stronger and stronger. That was one hard but worthy game. I think Skype helped a ton.

We'll probably have more of these in the near future, but yeah it feels good to win after a long match. I'm ashamed I thought that we'd lose that one. A few good team fights, and things swung in our favor and kept slowly snowballing us to victory. I still greatly regret trying to ward at bad times/positions.

Glad to know you had fun as Zeus. He's a hoot with Refresher Orb. What could probably have been funnier is getting another Refresher for 3 ults in a row.

Wow I was the only one not level 25. I shall go to the corner of shame.

Refresher Orb doesn't stack. If you use one, they all go on cooldown.

I don't think we would have won that game if the Naga knew how to use her ult at all. We kept getting away from fights that could have been ugly. I was moving around the map a lot to push lanes and get farm here and there, which I wouldn't have done if they knew how to isolate me and pick me off.

The Naga lost them the game, look at her items. I was surprised when I killed her but not so much anymore... at least I can feel good about myself because I didn't mess up targeting an illusion, because I wasted everything on her lol.
Staying at base defending for so long was boring, but it looks cool that I had only 3 deaths in 70min match. Chew with 10k gold also looks awesome, next time while saving for buyback consider buying a Ghost Scepter (if most of their damage comes from autoattacks) or a BKB if they have mostly magical nukes.
I wish that in those games we were able to split push more :/

Aw. I felt that if you can get the money to farm a 2nd Refresher Orb you deserve to be ballin' and ult 3 times in a row.

It was kind of funny that they couldn't isolate you even with a Gem.

Alternatively we could use the in-game chat, but then again we gotta press a button down to chat.

I look in shame at my 12 deaths for that game, but then again we all saw how much chaos and deaths came from just popping down the wall + vacuum combo on their carries. Game would have ended much sooner had I not fed so much.

There's an option where you can leave the mic "open" so you don't have to press the button.

Watching Mouz vs Fnatic, what's up with long games lately? ._.
It looks like one of our long games too... except they all play insanely well.

6.78. splitpushers got buffed, some variety of pickoff (the base-breaking type) got nerfed,

After 10 games or so with Wind Runner I felt like I've improved a bit and want to learn/improve another support.
I'll be reading guides and practicing my micro/jungle skills because I want to learn how to play Chen o Enchantress... or maybe something I've heard is easier, Visage.

1st time randomed Nightstalker: Interesting play, but his daytime weaknesses hurt. I can see why he needs to ball out of control on day 1 if he doesn't want to fall behind.

A game after that with another friend: The more I play Dark Seer. The more I enjoy playing him. He's not a blatantly bullsh'it hero per se like Phantom Lancer or a fed Void, but he does so much through his utility in seemingly subtle ways that you'll wonder how the hell did your team get ruined by one hero. Wall really wrecks right clickers, even moreso with a stun/slow. Dark Seer is also really tanky with a Mek and Pipe; it's like I have a mini Heart on top of taking so much less nuke damage. I can easily see why he's such a stable and common pick for pro players.

Visage is a bit harder IMO, it's more punishing to lose familiars and they have very little health. Then again I have a lot of practice with Chen and Enchantess so I'm biased. I've only played Visage vs humans like 4 times.

The thing about Chen and Enchantress that I don't think I can do yet is deal with 3+ creeps that do several different stuff. I'll give them all a try, practice a lot and see who I feel comfortable with the most.

Got the whaleblade from the compendium immortal item thingy.
Soooooooo awesome.
Even changes torrent animation to add a whale in it.

Won mid against Drow with OD, she was a level and a bit behind me. Once she got level 6 she went to other lanes where everyone was just as underleveled but insanely underfarmed and destroyed. I even warned them she was missing and to stay back. Our ganks were also terrible because of how underleveled/underfarmed the carries in my team were and I suck too much with OD to deal with more than one with little or no help. However, by the end everyone blamed me because I didn't stop drow... when I actually slowed her down and was the only one with decent farm, was I supposed to carry the whole game 1vs5 as OD? ._. Even the little things I did right, like saving 3 teammates by letting enemy Faceless Void survive was somehow a "mess up".

Eh, ignore them. That's just them not being able to look at their own faults in that game. In other words, they needed to stop sucking. In no way is OD supposed to be the one carrying the whole team to victory unless you were balling out of control. You warned them Drow was missing. They should've realized something was going to happen. Drow is honestly not too hard to shut down in comparison to other mid heroes. A well-played QoP/Puck/Storm Spirit is a much scarier mid hero to have missing due to their blink/fast travel speed.

I remember my first and only Anti Mage match being with spers. We got stomped bad because of my awfulness and I remember random people peaching at me for being terrible.
This time the only SPer was Dusk, who did an awesome job babysitting and creating room for me to farm (the rest of the team too) and it makes me think that I finally have a clue of how to last hit/farm safely. Iwish I was better at last hitting, but I think it was a pretty average/decent time for my BFury. I feel happy, today I finally know for certain that I've improved.

Haven't played much lately but, collected all the new immortal items which makes the collector inside of me happy.

Took me a few keys to get all of them, but i'm satisfied with them all now, only thing i didn't like was the pot but i got it because i love collecting stuff.

Currently enjoying dendi streaming pudge myself.
So hyped for the TI3 groupstage matches. I want to see how people fair against eachother, although as we saw last year, you can not always accurately use the group stages as a way to measure who will get how far.

He is a really really cool hero. I think his only down-side is being slow and squishy, but his diseables and his pushing abilities are awesome.

That was a fun pub match; best Viper match yet in terms both GPM and XPM-wise. Those guys really loved to gank me hard at mid, but they essentially ignored the Anti-Mage (Words). Nice Earthshaker plays there, Dusk.

I love getting those early game Fissure blocks. I think the last time I supported Words as ES we also got an easy first blood under our tower.

In that game I played Clinkz? I don't think we got first blood because I did nothing all game, most of the times I'd get stuck in the wrong side of the fissure or wouldn't have enough damage. Unless you mean the other game I played Magina, because I remember you doing great to make room and get kills but I don't remember if we got first blood.
But yeah, they ignored me most of the game after they killed me 1 time and the next time someone went to the lane I solo killed haha. I feel bad for not being with you guys in team fights, I was incredibly idiotic when I purchased Eaglesong when I knew that Manta was the choice, I had to stay back and farm more to build it.
Regardless, I like playing Anti Mage when I know you and Adam are going to be supporting... next time I'll be more careful with items and hopefully join you in teamfights :D

T'was a fun night. It was only unfortunate that on that last game they went for a late-game flash farming team vs our push strat. There was just too much farm to stop. Now that I think about it that did seem to be their team strat. Magnus, KoTL, Alch, Gyro. They can all farm a lot really quickly, and Magnus + Alch = scary scary farming speed. Warlock was just there to keep us in place and distract us while the main stars delivered the pain.

We don't play CM very often, so we're not very good at drafting. In retrospect we made some pretty poor decisions, couldn't push into that lineup at all.

Yeah, other than Chen and DK it wasn't really pushing strat. We needed some split push or stronger team fight to deal with them.
I'll read some guides or something to be prepared for next time :P

There's bound to be THAT kind of team. Good news though, that's another win under your belt rather than a loss. Losing feels a lot worse with a bad team like that, because it's like knowing you WILL lose, but in a painful way.

That was a fun game. I didn't like his draft, it was too greedy and I felt starved most of the game. I'm glad it actually worked out, but I think it was mostly because of other team not playing as good as you guys did.

@Chew; this video might be useful for you. Stacking and pulling sounds hard but once you try it and once you pull it off a couple times you'll understand it's extremely easy to accomplish.
Note that you shouldn't do it every game because most of the time it should be done by the support player and it needs the carry in lane to have a clue of how to last hit under his tower without either him or the tower taking too much damage. You should never do it on middle lane unless you're asked to, and you won't because it's extremely situational and only once in pro games have I see something like that being done. Also, I don't think Dire can pull as much as they show in the video but it's something you should do when your carry asks you to.
Learning how to stack every neutral camp in the game is really really important. It's something that you need when jungling with some heroes or something that will make your carry player extremely happy.

As Jakiro I didn't feel comfortable with it mostly because I don't like the delay the Ice Breath has to froze the enemies. Enden up failing a couple of freezing.

What I usually do is just stand next to the camp from 0:30 or so and that way I don't forget to stack at 0:5x and if there's a jungler I can tell him to back off.
It's important that you don't pull without stacking first because it pushes the lane and sometimes it's hard to farm when the lane is pushed because it's easier for the other team to harass you.

As you all may know how I love to be support:
I feel really comfortable with Crystal Maiden. Even tho I tend to sacrifice myself just to someone get a triple kill.

What an annoying night to play. 500+ ms the first game, the second wasn't so bad but there were some annoying lag spikes. The third one was the one that seriously pissed me off, not just the mouse dying but them blinking and avoiding the pineappleing shackles was frustrating.
Also, I don't know how to lane against Silencer. It's easy early but once his mana draining spells get stronger it's just impossible for me. Eh, reading more I don't think I was meant to win that lane against him, I'm actually surprised I survived for so long considering how badly I do against him with other heroes ._.

Silencer's kind of like Drow/Death Prophet, really annoying to lane against but squishy and easy to gank. If you're 1v1 with Silencer, try to stay back and avoid his harass.

Late night Doto game. Wanted to play Clinkz for two days now. Went off-lane with a Lion vs Zeus and PA. Things went way better than expected.

Zeus did some nice harass at first, but a wand kept me alive and got to be more aggressive with Lion. Zeus fed so hard PA's farm went to hell. My team safe lane KoTL (with a Naix) actually knew what he was doing and went on a killing spree and balled towards a fast sheepstick. We had a mid BH. Very weird, but he actually seemed to have done pretty well for himself. All in all, the game was such a train wreck for the enemy team I was lol-ing hard. Even managed to see them send their courier to the Secret Shop, where I sniped it for some easy gold.

mid lane bh is occasionally a thing if you want a quick level 6. iirc mid bh has something weird where you take 3 levels in shuriken before 6 as opposed to leveling stealth as on offlane bh
also clinkz is usually much better safelane (especially on Radiant) unless you're just roflstealing enemy jungle creeps for death pact.

I haven't played dota in ages now. been watching so much TI3, playing Civ V, and busy with soccer tryouts.

First unusual i ever unboxed, feels great.

I'm starting to hate playing with randoms. Some moron spends the whole game peaching about everything, he gets killed at least 3 times while he types and keeps peaching because somehow loosing the game it's everyone but his fault. I suck, everyone made mistakes, I'm sure everyone tried their best but all we get is whining from one guy who thinks played perfectly. It's just hard to enjoy the game that way, but I think that if I only play with SPers I won't ever improve if Dusk and Adam carry me every match. -_-

Later on the Visage abandoned bot and went top, claiming to farm. I can't do crap with KoTL spamming Illluminate, because I either try to farm but eat surprise horses or stay far away and let them push the tower. Let's just say the match went to hell since no one bought Sentries for the Weaver or more wards until it was too late, and I fed hard because I kept trying to farm in my lane and I can't do jack with Sven's low mana pool. I blame the loss on the Visage, myself, and the jungling Lone Druid.

Near the end of the game I saw Visage had a Hyperstone.

Sven needs hardcore babysitting and that's why I don't like him. I played him recently with Dusk, Adam and Chew in some CM match, I didn't do much that game other than... not feed the other team. Laning against KotL can be easy if you get a couple wards to see when and where he is charging, but usually it's annoying because no one ever buy wards to avoid his blasts and the few times I've purchased them myself the carry doesn't even check.

AC is a good item on Visage if you get that much money.

Except he was building that after getting Power Treads. If he had more support items on him I wouldn't be so aggravated. I'm very sure he was THOSE types of Russian players as well since his grammar was very bad and insisted on farming top instead of letting Lone Druid solo the lane. I'm really hating Dire side for the Compendium match since the lineup should be able to give the Radiant side a very hard time, but it's less friendly for bad/newer players. Every time we lose because Weaver keeps getting fed and whichever lane Weaver was harassing/farming they don't get Sentries or even Dust.

was on 7 loss streak. had some bad luck, bad teammates, and some bad play by yours truly. solo queue in a nutshell.
last game of the night; it's storm spirit time. up against a pudge (because everyone loves pudge amirite).
first blood goes my way. I'm 4/1 before 10 minutes. Pudge ragequits after failing at ganking several times, windrunner immediately afterwards. I end up 9/1/3 with bloodstone and orchid in 23 minutes. Snowballing out of control feels kinda good. Pudge was awful, but it still felt kinda nice.

Storm Spirit and QoP can ball out of control so hard if you know what you're doing, or if your opponents are really bad. It's always funny/wonderful to have a baller SS/QoP on your team. Of course on the opposite side, facing a good SS/QoP is scary.

yeah that's why I pick him when I really want a win, it's so easy to snowball out of control with most mid heroes but especially qop or storm. shadow fiend makes a good case for it as well, puck too (requires more coordination though).

also remember that electric boogaloo video of aghs refresher razor?
that's been my later-game luxury build whenever I play razor. I go basi phase drums bkb aghs refresher. towers stand no chance even once I get aghs up. heroes really don't either. you're losing more than 2 armor every second you're nearby.

School schedule is retarded. I have classes up to 6-8pm everyday and I just get too tired to play for a while at nights.
The only day I wasn't tired I had an awful game with Chew, some idiotic KotL ruined my mood. I miss playing with you guys :(

EDIT: Playing some bot matches right now and oh dear, it's worse than usual.

2 games. Both we technically lost by kills and gold, but we won due to:

1st game: Other enemy team lacked a true carry; best they had was Slark. Lycan pushed like mad while Alch/Sven racked in the kills. Enemy team had 5 hearts and a Wisp, but we still won.
2nd game: We won due to splitpushing powers of DP/PL and I Megacreeped their final mid Rax while they chased my team away. Bristleback on the enemy team won't stop shi'ttalking about stuff like our DP getting mad at him or how many times I miss my RP; honestly sounds like some Call of Duty/LoL kid who won't shut up and showing how dumb he looks. He got his ass reported after that. Don't need such arseholes in this game.

Both games were still pretty bad though. 1st game our Enchantress decided to mid. 2nd game Skeleton King had a troll build with stuff like 2 Void Stones in his inventory. BoTs, and a PMS. Later he had a Necrobook and Mask of Madness. >_>;;

Both games overall we didn't have anyone supporting with wards, and no true supports (I randomed Abaddon first game, and 2nd game was All Random). I swear my MMR has gone down or something to have such bad players. Thank god I was still able to take up ward duty, that probably helped prevent quite a few kills.

Ench is actually a surprisingly strong mid-hero. She's just stronger with early game aggression from jungle, obviously.
