Well about the only evidence we have to prove either side is that "Gavin" was the name of the guy in possession of Tiger last, at least that made it publicly known.

I, myself, think that someone leveled him to the absurdly high level solo, and then sold it to the person named Gavin.

Yeah it's fake, it was done by him and that chick who wrote the original merchanting guide.
