It's being held like a gun.

Maplers don't hold "one hand" weapons in that hand, except for guns.

But that aside, it does appear to be some sort of one handed crossbow. Even so, this does not mean that the person is wrong to think it looks like a gun (guns and crossbows like this do share some common design elements), and it is certainly not wrong of them to be excited about this expansion either.

Or the fact that as a monster it doesn't have to follow the player weapon wielding at all >_> Grendel the very Old is even humanoid and he holds his staff in the other hand.

Oh yeah, its a complete maze that dead forest. I think the idea was to do a version of the forest from Ocarina of time.

I'm starting to think those meso bags are monsters, the worst kind too.
What happens if you touch em? They attack you? Or do they take a random amount of mesos?

We won't know the fine details on the area till the patch, so were gonna have to wait for patch night to get the gist of what these monsters are and here they are from. What they use as weapons included.

His stance is not indicative of a Mapler. NPCs (and monsters based on them) are not bound by the rules of Mapler physiology.

This monster, however, seems to have a Mapler at it's design core. That is to say, the elements of this monster could just as well be armor, weapons, skin, etc. that a Mapler could use on their own character. And if this were the case, the crossbow she is holding would need to be in the data as a gun or as a shield. That's all I'm saying.

Because the idea of a labyrinth-like forest was first seen in Ocarina of Time. Their ideas were definitely not influenced by World 5 of Super Mario World.

Meh, SMW isn't exactly like that, because you do have a map that shows where the stages you've cleared/unlocked are.
Unless the GBA version is much different than the SNES version.

The reason I mentioned the Forest of Illusion is because the developers cited it as inspiration in one of the interviews or Q&As or something.

Okay...
Well it certainly isn't the first thing I'd think of, looking at Phantom Forest.
