I remember back when MS first came out they explicitly stated that the CS will remain as purely aesthetic and not provide "unfair advantages" to those who buy NX. Perhaps that truly was their philosophy initially but they quickly learned people are gung-ho to pay to get ahead!

No matter what class you play, NX will always win in the end...
A lvl130 Bishop with maxed angel ray and 1000 dollars NX (resulting in a Bishop with 3000 INT... yes, about that much...) will outdamage a lvl200 nightlord with 0 dollars NX... (even without the rebalance patch...)
Ok, I'm totally NOT going to potential scroll ANYTHING I have, I'm gonna be unique, not caring for damage, since you will NEVER win, unless you spend 500 or more dollars on NX for more power...
It's sad in a way... the upcoming rebalance patch (christmas 2010 gMS?) will do totally nothing now... all it does is make -ANY- class a potential 500k dmg / sec dealer, including bishops...
Oh for those who wonder if equips will become worthless, no, -EVERY- current item can become an unindentified item and be transferred into a +4% / +6%/ +8% / +10% base stats item, you only need LOTS NX for it... Mind that the proces of turning normal gear into potential gear only works with 70% and 90% scrolls, aka, 30% and 10% chance that you blow up current "normal" gear...
Again, I'm 100% not going to compete, because I already know I lost that game by far...

You know? Miracle cubes aren't needed after the patch. And just let me point out all the reasons...
1. Your current gear still works. You can risk them by using the potential scroll on it. If it works, it will have extra stuff. If you don't like that stuff, save it for someone who might like.
2. Gear drops at a x10 soon afterwards. This means equipments will no longer require a lot of effort.
3. That gear that drops all the time can be used with a potential scroll, OR it may already have an unidentified status. No risk of blowing it up.
4. And last but not least, any good gears will become more common as time passes by, making you able to actually get stuff worth equiping. Due to others using NX. Choose to use it, or choose not to use it. But in the end, it evens out. Remember they aren't untradeable.

1. The star rating doesn't give % stats.
2. All items dropped have the same chance at being epic. They are all unidentified. What those other bosses drop is the 90% sucess scrolls, and the 100% enhancement.
3. What changes from the last way of scrolling? Seriously, instead of a CRAPLOAD of scrolls, you now only have one. If it works well, try to get an extra bonus from the usual scrolls. And then, if you feel lucky, throw enhancement in it. Maybe the 100% kind once and that's all. Oh, and if I remember correctly, enhancement can't get reset.
4. People who love to blow their items up will soon go bankrupt. Meaning that only savers will actually win at this. And maybe one or two riskers.

I'll spell it out for you, NOTHING IS ANY DIFFERENT. When Gach came out everyone complained that NX hoes would get ahead only to find out later that you could buy the crap from them as usually they were idiots and sell it at a premium. When hammers and vegas came out people scrolled the hell out of their items but after a while got bored of them, and sold them to other people. Same crap will apply here. The ONLY part that requires nx is to reset the potential ability. It isn't that hard anymore to get crap and for the most part this potential gear is going to flood the pineapple out of the market.
Want to know why? Most people aren't going to risk 10% to blow up one of their pieces of gear. What they will do on the other hand is maker everything and potential it, and if they are smart they will do it when its CLEAN. if it sucks or isn't on par of what they want they'll sell it until someone buys it and then they sell it and so on and so on.
FFS you're level 150 and a shadower, at the very least you can become a SED mule at HT and get you're desired scrollls slowly. You have the least to worry about..

I'm pretty sure a bishop spamming AR for say 199,999 at zak < my sair with current gear breaking 160-200k total in canon.

i really dont care if a lvl 150 paladin outdamage me, as i already saw some lvl 16x paladin doing the same dmg as me, i play the game the way i want, if i dont want to scroll my equips with potential, it doesnt mean the game won't be fun anymore. We've likewise seen corsairs hitting 6 digits per cannon hit (which now hits 5 times)... then there's the shadowers with 800k per assassinate hit with SP... and who knows HOW many others that are also dealing as much if not easily more than bishops. Sure, some of what you're stating is fact, but you've mostly done nothing but state quite one-sided facts.
Also, you clearly don't have enough of an understanding of the potential system if you're stating that "Epic items will only drop from (squad)bosses".
So before claiming everything you say as "facts" please at least do proper research. You're only serving to increase tensions in this thread and fanning flames (and of course, I am too technically. But there's quite a bit of a difference between what you're doing here, and what the rest of us are doing here).

I'm going to get potential gear without using a drop of NX. I've made a comprehensive list of exactly what mobs drop what equips that both of my characters need. I'll simply train there for a while and get a bunch of those equips. Then just use magnifying glasses. If the boost is no good, I toss it... that simple. If the boost is good.. I scroll with 60s. Done. If the drop rate becomes x10 (as it is in KMS) then it'll be quite easy to do this. If I feel risky (or find two equips with a good potential boost) I'll use roughly... 3? of the enhancement scrolls and stop there. If I like my equip a lot, I'll just use one once. In fact, you dont even have to use it once. The boosts from potential will probably far outweigh it.

Hokay, well, figures this thread needs a semi-update...
Got on after the patch today to level my new character after giving up on my old one. =) The account was made before the patch, and I still got the potential quest at level 10. It came with a magnifying glass and a scroll. Stupid me, before today, I did not know what the potential system was (I have not played in a long, long time) and do not remember the details of the scroll. I THINK it was untradeable. I'm not 100% sure of that.
Yes, potential system is here and YES I believe that the equipment drop rate has increased a LOT! I was hunting for a little under thirty minutes and found NO LESS than EIGHT different pieces of equipment. Coincidence? I don't think so. I also found an 'unidentified' item (is that what it is?) and used my magnifying glass on it. Neato!
I was confused by the equipment drop rate, tbh. I did not know this was supposed to happen this patch so it left me scratching my head. I'd never found this many equips before during a non-2x drop event. Checked the website. Is it 2x? Nope. It's not. So why do I have so many equips?
This system is going to rule. It means people will actually go and HUNT FOR EQUIPMENT now, like in most MMO's, instead of stupid merchants ruling the game. I'm so excited. I've never been a statwhore, and I've never had any interest in scrolling pomegranate because I suck at it. But now I can go and quest for my equipment (which has always intrigued me massively; I did it extensively in Beta and early MS, and I still like doing it now), and find Unidentified equips and maybe, just maybe, finally manage to get good stat equipment without having to shell out hundreds of millions of meso that I simply don't have.
