summer Wrote:let me ask you this...

do you get pirated software/games/movies/TV shows? download music from non-itune/etc sites?

we all know "we shouldn't do it"

but i bet a lot still do because "who would know?" and "who cares anyway?"

lol That's true.
I guess the same thing with hacking, buying mesos, and what not.

"who cares and who would know"

and yes I am indeed married to an exhacker, people know that, you know it, others know it.

While I wasn't playing MS, he started hacking, I didn't divorce him because hell I paid for the wedding and that was 30 bucks. I return to MS, and he's off ranks.

I am legit because I trained my account, I never leeched off that noob ever nor have taken mesos from him. I do everything on my account myself and champ has nothing to do with it. I'm not the sort of person to be supported by anyone else on the game.

HunterChamp hacked 2 levels in his 8x, nothing I can do about his rank or stupidty. He got hacked started his noob account over again and is now playing the game hack free no leech and with 2x exp like most people. He's no longer a hacker but will never be considered legit but is probably more legit than alot of people who refer to themselves as legit. He zaks legitly and dies most of the time.

Most people who know me already know about HunterChamp.

So you can throw that in my face all you want but Champ's account is only connected to my account by way of marriage and nothing more, I sold my junk to scroll my crappy armor and equips.

Thanks for bringing that up though in an attempt to make me look like some sort of hypocrit by using a sock puppet account.

We can start a hacker, exhacker and leecher discussion next since everything is all off topic.

If this thread is to continue, posters must stick to the main topic. We don't want unnecessary flame wars here. :\

Can you honestly say you've ever seen a topic like this, not turn into a flame war, it's why topics like this should be banned, at least from general sections of MS forums.

ok now for a real conclusion.

If a person has no prior knowledge of the orgin of an item that may have been created by a hacker the person is at no fault.

If a person does have knowledge of the origin of an item ie. created with packet editing, duped items or any ways of means not natural to the game as long as that person is not a hacker they that is also ok. (or somewhere in between being ok and not ok)

I do realize there are plenty of items on the market with unknown orgins that we more than like have gotten with no prior knowledge of those items.

Then there is temptation, desire, etc etc etc to make a character great by any means necessary.

I was trying to keep the topic strictly about the game but those examples about real life pirating, stealing cars and how one's real life is applicable to the game works also.

=[ But I also get the feeling that people are actually grateful towards hackers since it allows them to get certain items almost impossible to create then turn around and hate them for causing the chaos in game.

It's when people begin to accuse and post ad-hominem that a discussion (albeit an apparently heated one) becomes a flame war. If we can all keep irrelevant and/or disruptive out of our posts, we'll have much more decent threads. Granted, I understand that it's rare to see an online community where you can't find flame wars, but from what I've seen, Southperry contains many intelligent and adequately mature members; much more than I've seen in similar forums. That being said, it shouldn't be hard for us to have a healthy debate or discussion.

I'll see where this thread goes.

Xiyuuna Wrote:I was going to put this in the Bowman section but I'm sure this spams into all classes. If a person buys a hacked item and it's QUITE OBVIOUS it's hacked is that person still considered legit. I sorta see them in the same category as leechers or even being just as bad as hackers.

I don't consider them as bad as leechers since Nexon has agreed leeching is ok aslong as the exchange is only game related items/mesos. I don't consider them as bad as hackers since they aren't going out of their way to ruin the gameplay of every person on the server by taking up a good training area for themselves. I view them as illegits who are taking advantage of the situation. The same goes for every person who is now in the high levels of 130+ and are against any illegit, yet they glitch OPQed for hours when it was released. Yes, buying an obviously hacked item is illegit. Even though the person bought the item fairly and earned the mesos through honest means, the creation of the item was not made fairly, and it gives the buyer an unfair advantage. Though the buyer might not care what he did, the point is he's still considered illegit to me if he trains with the item, levels up with it, KSes with it, or uses it to kill anything. (To everyone including myself you has attained music without actually buying it, I consider ourselves pety criminals.)

Quote:I mean yeah getting a perfect weapon is tempting (not that I could afford one) but is the line between what a legit is and isn't lately so blurred and obscured that buying a hacked weapon is just acceptable?

From the replies I see that most people do see it as acceptable because it is as it says, "blurred and obscure".

TL;DR -
No, I don't think it's acceptable. Fried food makes me sleepy. I view them as illegit if they knowingly bought a hacked perfect equip.

Hacked Items - bio9205 - 2009-01-13

What i think is that it's not ur fault that the item is hacked. I mean, the hacker did it, all u did was buy it. Though i wouldnt see a reason to buy it, that would be just encouraging the hacker to continue >_> Or it could be just passed off as a WSed item.

Hacked Items - Thunda - 2009-01-13

Quote:So in conclusion,
It is acceptable to buy a hacked item with or without knowledge of that item being legit or not legit.

People will do anything to be stronger, better and faster than the next player by any means necessary.

Thanks people.

Can you claim that this statement isn't provocative?

There's no sure way of knowing an item is legit or illegit. You can only know an item is legit if you scrolled it yourself, but then, no one else would know. You could deduct that an item is illegit if it is sold by a hacker's character. But everything in between is gray. Very gray. It's not black and white, as you would have us believe.

:[ yeah that's the sucky part. I already redid my conclusion a few post above. Since I'm female BM I really have no choice but to scroll my own armor, as for my bow it's sorta a personal goal. Perhaps earlier in the game things were more concrete but the barriers are starting to fade and if all the walls come down it's going to be so unsatisfying as a game. *edits* Plus o_o I was just sorta wrapping up what people were saying.
@outland
I laughed at people to glitched OPQ, that PQ is actually fun and fighting Papa Pixie is fun. I think most people got banned for glitching, very few got away with it.

Hacked Items - Hero - 2009-01-13

if I were to be traded by uahdfhucvhai and he offered to sell me 21atk BWG for 20m, I'd buy them and use them. Period. Obviously they are hacked BWG, but the point of this video game we play is to have fun. Higher damage means more fun for some people, especially since it'll get you in situations where people that host boss runs want to take you along.

If the whole "If you accept or buy a hacked item you are illegit" thing counts, nobody on maplestory is legit except people that just start out. Everyone has possesed an illegitly gotten item in one way or another, even if it was just from buying or reselling, looting a hacker, asking dual pirate hackers for steely while drunk or even looting gachapon frauders in zipangu.

Chin

think about it; you sell a 20atk mapleshield for 1,5b to a lv153 DK called vwvwviwvwvwvi. you look him up on rankings, and indeed, the standard dual-vaccing look like you're used of a vacspear. You're going to keep the money, aren't you? They're illegit meso!

Hacked Items - Stereo - 2009-01-13

I do think you're responsible for what you buy, and that buying (known) illegit items means your character is not perfectly legit. But what can I do about it? Not a lot. People will keep supporting hackers and I will keep frowning at them.

If you know it's a hacked item and they're giving it to you for cheap, buy it and NPC it.

It's some sort of double standard of morale in-game, I got to admit; "Legits" hacking in secret, screaming out that hackers are the worst piece of pomegranate that exist and similar actions.

It's horrible, and I couldn't see any other way of ignoring it other than:
- Quit
- Play with friends

Stereo Wrote:If you know it's a hacked item and they're giving it to you for cheap, buy it and NPC it.

I was about to post that. However, that wouldn't be completely right, either. That makes the hackers go on hacking, and that's what we'll try to avoid.

This is why I scroll my own equipments too, I do have pride in using legit items. The only things I am not scrolling, would be my current SCG (15 att), and perhaps my FaceStompers. Everything else will be self-scrolled, though more costly, the fun of the game is to do try new things and have fun.
