yeah time to stop using the word legit and let hackers do their thing.
Stock up on some of those ore rusher ores and buy some of those cheap hacked HT items. Nothing wrong with it at all. *raises her glass with sarcasm*

ok Lemme stop goofing off on the forums, time to go do stuff that matters.

Let's say you have two hackers.

One made 13 50 int saunas.

The other made 350 various items with 3-4 10%s, and the rest 60ed.

One you can clearly see is selling teh haxxorz. The other one is impossible to distinguish from a regular FMer provided he sells them "intelligently," over a long period of time.

As some other people said, it's really hard to distinguish who's who anymore. It's easy to condemn someone for "buying hacked items," but as easy to know for sure what one is.

Hacked Items - Xiyuuna - 2009-01-12

"If a person buys a hacked item and it's QUITE OBVIOUS it's hacked is that person still considered legit."

was really my original question, I was trying to keep it simple but then all this other stuff got added into it.

But all I'm getting is well HOW DO YOU KNOW? I'm saying if you do know that item is made by a hacker and you buy it is that legit?

People keep saying well "what if" and all these other hypothetical and non-hypothetical situations.

Simple...
YOU know the item is made by a hacker...you buy that item, is that legit?

Seriously, you can't ever know for sure, and with the past events, there are so many white scrolls out there, it's not even funny. If I had the mesos, I could easily go right now, buy 100 white scrolls, fine my self the perfect fire wand I've always wanted, and the 10% wands scroll for it, and scroll my self, a 185mat 21-24 int lvl 130 fire wand.

I'd be legit.

My Hermit has 15 Ilbis right now, ilbis I intend to sell to combine the mesos with what she has now to acquire better stars. I always use a mule for shops, for merchanting and w/e, as I don't like being bothered about what's in my shop, with people asking to lower prices. Some of my mules are simply named blessme, etc. I even have some random letter names, cause sometimes you just don't care what you name your mules. So are you telling me you'll assume my Ilbis are illegit, and not buy them, just because of that?

Last night, I was on my priest, BishOptimal. I have never hacked on my characters, or anything. However, my priest is poorly equipped, and is level 112. Why is he poorly equipped? Because I've done my time, and am still putting work into my original main, and I will leech which ever of my own characters, that I choose, and anyone that has a problem with that, can screw off. Yet, because he's wearing a bathrobe, no glove, beginner shoes, a zhelm, a black seraph cape, and a nocturnal staff, I'm called a hacker. Almost all of that is typical lukless wear, minus the lack of shoes and gloves. The people accusing me of such, just assume I found the cape while hacking, etc... Yet the cape is used on my main, and is an 11 int cape.

This hacker crap has gone too far, when legits are being accused of hacking for no reason other than their name, and their looks, and because of what's in their shops. That's why I think topics like these, are completely idiotic and only harmful to the community. I tell you, as a legit myself, I do not appreciate being accused of hacking when I'm on any of my characters. Especially when I know I put hard work into most of them, and if I'm just gonna be assumed a hacker, it's kind of pointless no?

DUMB AND POINTLESS CONVERSATION.

You don't know if it's legit or not. In fact, it's rather rare for you to see an item, and know, 100%, that it's hacked. Even if someone did purposely buy an item, that they knew was hacked, how would anyone else know, that they knew it was a hacked item? These discussions should be banned from forums like this entirely. Absolutely pointless, and you are asking people to look at it through your own hypothetical, yet they can bring up any themselves? Kind of foolish if you ask me.

*sigh* One last edit: Before you go off crying about how we should just not use the word legit, and that it doesn't matter anymore, blah blah blah. We get what you're saying, okay, stop looking at this through the point of view of some typical immature female. We're not saying that it's fair that you can't tell the difference anymore, but the fact is, you can't. Unless I come up to you and say, "Hey, I bought this perfect item from a hacker." or even "Hey, I am a hacker, what the hell are you going to do about it?" You'll never know, period, so let it go. If you see someone hacking, report it, ss it, record their name into a database, have fun, but that's pretty much the extent of what you can do about it. I mean, what Quantact said was right too, you go off saying hacked items are like perfect items, and many other people made that assumption too, but they can just easily fall short of perfect, and still be hacked items. So gg, useless topic and conversation, grouped with hypocrisy, and immature thought.

Hacked Items - Derimed - 2009-01-12

You can't make a perfect item using 100 white scrolls.

Mathematically, the average comes to 700 for most perfect items, or 1000 for an armor or Zhelm. Even if you 30% the first three or four slots, you still will not be able to finish a perfect weapon with 100 scrolls. The whole WS concept is ridiculous in my opinion.

You can't? Explain further. I was quite sure that 10% of all 10% hit. And 10% of 100 is 10.

Edit: Tested it out mathematically, if interested Tongue

I remember seeing a video of a guy in bera scrolling a 21 attack brown glove with less than 100 white scrolls and 10% glove attack scrolls.

lol youre explanation confused me

but youre point is still the same

on average it takes 10 10% scrolls to land one

7 slots

equals 70 scrolls

on average --- please dont go into seperate events blah blah blah

rather then using a hypothetical the thread starter should have used a specific example ---

bera right now -- several players hack ht constantly and are known for it-- browsing fm you find one of their stores -- if you buy from this shop are you considered illegit

i wouldnt buy from this store -- i know they are hackers -- i wont support it -- but thats based off my own morality --

illegit -- i dont think so -- but....meh

My point remains the same, even in a specific example, no one else will know that it was bought from a hacker unless you, or the friends you tell blurt it out to everyone. Even still, if you guys wish the question answered, then no it's not illegit. Even further, chances are that the hacker will eventually be banned, and thus this removes mesos from the server, which is a PLUS, not a minus. Plain and simple, if you earn your mesos legit, and you trained your character legit, it's down to only your own morals as to whether or not it's okay to buy those items, and if you choose to, you are not illegit, because, first of all, the prices tend to be about the same, if only a few mil difference, so the items WOULD indeed be there either way. The only time this isn't true is in duping situations, and in that case, well... you're still legit, it's not necessary for you to concern your self with such things.

As for the white scroll thing, it doesn't take a math genius to know, that if something has a 10% chance of working, it'll work 1 out of 10 times on average, and if you have 7 slots to use the item on, on average all 7 slots will pass withing 70 scrolls. I added 30 more for good measure.

EDIT: If it is such a big deal that a legit buys an illegit item, then what is it when an illegit buys a legit item from a legit? Is it not the same. You could argue that if you set up a shop you have no ability to choose who buys, but the fact is it's just an excuse, you know damn well that a hacker could buy your items, so shouldn't you just not sell them in a shop? It's the same, as most of the time, you have no ability to differentiate between hacker and legit, unless you stereotype the hell out of everything, in which case, it screws both legits, and hackers.

The economics of the situation would ensure that 30%s are used for at least the first 3-5 slots, and then about 20-40 white scrolls. (Because white scrolls are still extremely expensive compared to regular scrolls.)

...wtp are you talking about
I'm saying it clear...I said...YOU know that item was MADE by a HACKER and you BUY that item.

Nothing about telling the difference....NOT OF THAT.

I keep repeating what i'm trying to get at but no one seems to understand and keep point out different scenarios with these TL;DR paragraphs.

GAWD.

YOU KNOW THE ITEM IS MADE BY A HACKER. YOU BUY THAT ITEM. IS THAT RIGHT TO DO?[/COLOR]

And no topic is useless on a forum unless it has nothing to do with the subject of the forum. Obviously my topic isn't useless enough for you to write half an essay on it so pineapple off if you're going to act like that.

Hacked Items - ยป-Chris-> - 2009-01-12

Yes, illegit. Earn/buy the skill the proper way instead of with the undercut prices.

Hacked Items - Thunda - 2009-01-12

Quote:I'm saying it clear...I said...YOU know that item was MADE by a HACKER and you BUY that item.

You know, there's a reason why everyone comes up with these scenarios, and it's not just to make their paragraphs long and convoluted. Yes, buying illegit items from a known hacker is illegit. But the ramifications that stand in your way are:

1. No one would know except the buyers and sellers themselves, at most, so it wouldn't make a difference, unless someone came right out and admitted it.
2a. The buyer is not obligated to inform themselves about all the hackers in their server.
2b. Hackers don't go out of their way to broadcast that they are; also, they may actively hide under legit-looking IGNs and legit-looking equip (the example about the 350 10%/30%ed equips).
3. Sometimes it's just unclear. Ex. a mushroom shop filled with ilbis at 500k under market price. It could be a hacker. But it also could be a merchant or just a hoard from someone wishing to upgrade to cilbis or furies.

Given these constraints, whether you are "legit" in buying an item only really matters to yourself. It is the perfect crime.

as, for example, using weights to hold down a key and go do other things AND have multiple accounts.

No, obliously it's not right... but this subject is not as black and white as you seem to think it is. If a friend of mine who I know for a fact is legit has trained their way up to a high level, made meso by working hard and decides to buy ...oooh lets say a 134 att nisrock for pomegranates and giggles, and the person who sold it admits they are a hacker do I suddenly see my friend as illegit? Nope. I know how hard they worked for their level and meso. Im not gonna hold their "hacked" equip against them.

You never answered me.....
Peach Wrote:I find this all very ironic coming from you xiyuuna, you are/were married to a hacker. dont' tell me you haven't gained anything from him, he gives you 10 mesos and you take it... does that make you illegit in your own eyes? maybe try living your ideology instead of trying to shove it down everyones throats.

So lets take this 134 nisrock for example, your problem with it is its funding a hacker and it gives the new owner of the bow an advantage in the game they they would not have had unless the hacker made this bow.

How is this any different from you zakking with your husband who is a hacker? You're gaining experience and items with his help aka giving you an advantage in this game that you would not have had, as well as funding a hacker by him gaining meso/equips/exp with your help.

Enlighten me yea?

do you get pirated software/games/movies/TV shows? download music from non-itune/etc sites?

we all know "we shouldn't do it"

but i bet a lot still do because "who would know?" and "who cares anyway?"
