We have no proof of some 'Higher Being' creating the universe, or the world we live in today. The Bible isn't proof, it's merely a book. And it's nothing more than that.
I agree. It would be nice if there was some proof that some higher being created us or something like that, but there isn't. While there is infact solid proof ( so don't feel like argueing about this later) that evoloutionism (sp?) excists. Sorry creationism believers but untill someone higher being poofs into the middle of everything was solid proof, then by all means ill support ya guys.

Before either existed, there was nothing. It's pointless to discuss the nothing because it's nothing, and not the "vacuum of space" nothing, I mean REAL nothing. Not white or black or anything at all.

All matter in the universe was condensed into a point so small that the pressure was enormous. Eventually it burst forth and expanded and in seconds the universe was born. Over time things randomly occurred and here we are. People don't like to think that it's random luck that we exist, so they made up reasons to make humans special. In reality it's simple probability: with the infinite number of stars out there, at least one of them was bound to develop intelligent life. More than likely there's thousands of other intelligent life forms in our own galaxy, and untold millions, billions in the universe as a whole. We'll never even be able to meet some of them because even traveling at the speed of light we could never reach the other side before the universe ended.
I like to think of it in a way more difficult yet simpler explanation. Space and beyond had no beginning. It was always there. and always will be. and since we live in a world where everything has a beginning and an end, its impossible to imagine and is a kinda scary thought.

Space had a beginning and there's already evidence to support that. If space had no beginning, then the sky would be brighter than anything you can imagine because of all the light from an eternity's worth of stars, but this isn't the case obviously since stars die and each consecutive nebula produces dimmer and dimmer stars, yet we still have a wide range of stars. What I dislike about certain religions is that if a phenomenon cannot be explained by science, it must have a supernatural power associated with it.

Sn1perJohnE Wrote:Heres a bit of good oddness in the bible that my anthropology teacher told my class one day: There are 2! versions of the creation story, one after another. The first says that the world was made, then man, then plants and animals, and later woman. The second says that the world was made, then plants and animals, then man, and later woman. Really throws a wrench in you plans for world domination when you give two different versions of how things came to be huh?

That's one of the biggest things I hate about religion, their patronizing attitude towards women. My dad has a slight, but evident, prejudice against women, and it pisses me off. My mom grew up going to Church, my Aunt is still a weekly Church goer. We went up to visit after school got out, and she starts telling my mom that we need religion in our lives, which is bull pomegranate. I haven't believed in a god since I could think for myself, and I'm doing fine. It's startling how often religious people try to convert me. <_<

I'm told often that if I don't believe in a god, I will go to hell when I die, which makes no sense. Ok, so I don't believe in some guy because I like to have evidence for my beliefs, thus I don't believe in a god. Explain how that is worthy of living the my worse nightmares for he rest of my life.
I've never read the Bible, but I do remember someone saying something about being tolerant of religions? Of homosexuals? If that's true, why are there millions of Americans fighting against homosexual marriage when it will never, ever affect them in their life?

Ok, argument time. Tongue

The bible discourages forcing religion on people

"Never give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them with their feet and then turn around and attack you."
-Matthew 7:6

It's amazing how many Christians don't read the bible (Or even understand it)

Creation or Evolution? - Stereo - 2008-07-15

I'm not a believer and nothing short of a miracle would make me one.

Evolution is the best hypothesis I've seen so I'm going with it. It doesn't explain everything, but unlike creationism it doesn't claim to.

ROFL.

An example of typical Christian interpretation.

Wait, I just read that(lol), and what is it saying? :f6:
I don't see religion in that at all. o_o I read that as "Keep the good stuff for yourself, or they'll be ungrateful and you'll get attacked" which is not something we should be teaching kids. .__.

Just to throw this out there...
If you have ever heard the BARBER LOGIC STORY-
Who created the creator?
VS
Where did the matter for the Big Bang come from?
AND
If all matter was infinitely condensed in the pre-bang what was around it?
...
Also EVERY TIME I THINK UNIVERSE MY HEAD SPOLDES! Infinite boundaries *BANG*
Some sorta of end to it *BANG*
HOW THE HELL DO I DEAL WITH THIS!!
Descartes evil demon theory=WIN! ... ahhh relief.
,.,,
Also I am on evolution side.

It's actually supposed to mean "Don't force religion on someone who won't appreciate it"

Depends on your interpretation, the original text and its translation, and who wrote it.

Chompy Wrote:Where did the matter for the Big Bang come from?
One theory I heard said the universe has a Big Bang, then a Big Crunch, then a Big Bang, and it just repeats. We can't know what happened before the Big Bang, it's not possible.

Quote:If all matter was infinitely condensed in the pre-bang what was around it?
There was no "around it", the universe was infinitely small.

Creation or Evolution? - Brandini - 2008-07-15

Hazzy Wrote:We can't know what happened before the Big Bang, it's not possible.

At one point it was thought to be impossible to know how old the Earth was or what the moon was made.

Its probably not impossible to understand more of the universe's heritage, we are just not smart enough or our technology is not evolved enough to figure out these questions.

Well, in those cases, we couldn't get the information, while in this case there is no information to get. Regardless of what happened before the Big Bang, our universe would still turn out the same, thus we can't tell what happened.
