Just thinking about giant snails, stumps and other prehistoric versions of the present weak monsters in Ellin forest, I'm guessing there'd be giant ligators and curse eyes in the kerning city/sleepywood area?

Wild Kargoes are already very large, as are the Drakes, and what about the Ants that made the tunnels? There is no way a tunnel that big can be made by regular ants. (No matter how long a time it is.)

youre right, that would do alot of explaining. and maybe we can find out more about the sanctuary

There is already a giant Ligator in the present (its the area boss Dile), and there are giant snails in Ellin and one in the present (Mano).

Well there is always the possibility of some monsters being introduced that just simply died away.
I would get a kick if the Kargos from that era were the size of the mini-kargo, kept as pets, but forced to evolve to their surroundings.
Specific monsters don't have to be changed btw, some animals have been the same since other species ruled this earth, the crocodile(although I'm not 100% sure) being one of em.

Hell, that one in particular could have been around(or possibly its descendants) to dig the caves.
Would it be interesting if they used some of the monsters from Masteria for this time?
The idea of Versal MomMush(or would that be mushdad?) being the same as the one for back then would be cool.
