Do you believe in god? - Christian - 2008-07-16

I don't believe in God or any other higher being. The big bang was real and God did not make it happen.

If there was a God, then why do millions of people live a life of pain and suffering (Africa and other 3rd World countries)

I'm free to live a life that I choose, I bow to no one.

I was at MM for about 10 mins, then two lower kids came in. I just ignored them. MM spawned and I killed it quickly. They got annoyed and she told her big brother to come and KS me. He was a 11x Sader. I still easily ks'd him and then they both started spamming me in whisper. I finally told her I ks'd him easily and she told me Id burn in hell

Do you believe in god? - Mark - 2008-07-16

I used to believe in God. Hell, I was brought up a Christian, and used to go to Church when I was younger. I was even made to go to some stupid CCD class two days a week after my regular schooling.

Then I grew up and realized it's all bullshit.

I guess some people just take longer to realize this than others.

I feel sorry for those people that think that God is their personal arbiter of justice and make-stuff-good-for-me (as three posts above) Sad

Anyways, I believe in God because I want to. That's it, basically.

Either way, I don't have to answer to anyone other than myself. As long as I am happy with what actions I am doing in my own life, I don't care about what "god" or anyone else thinks.

Plus I'm a Jew. That's like instant "straight to heaven" card.

The whole idea of some 'Higher being' is bull. No, I do not believe in 'God'. There is no Heaven and there is no Hell. Religion is a joke, and I do not see the point of it.

I just hate the people that pray to God when its convienent for them. I hate people who never go to church.....never pray....and all of a sudden their mom gets cancer and they beg God for help.

I also hate people who pray to God over stupid stuff. Like praying to do well on a test. Im sure if there is a God, he has more pressing matters to attend to......like beating his roomate Chuggs in a arm wrestling match.....or driving Escalades...

This is what Im talking about

But isn't free will supposed to be the pinnacle of existence? From all the "I believe in myself" posts in here, I'm exercising my belief in myself to believe in a God. The alternative for me is not believing in something for no reason at all - equally bad, if I understand you properly (which I'm sure you think/say I don't).

Plus I wasn't aiming my sorrow at you, but my fellow Christians - no need to give any back. Also it's freakishly late and I'm making no sense. [/end stream of consciousness]

One edit before I crash: I forgot Baron d'Holbach followers. I guess I might have misunderstood, since there isn't any free will. Disregard my post if you follow his views.

Something I've learned in my philosophy classes:

God is not a human, though may mistaken to be at times.
The sun is the light to allow your human eyes to see the physical world, whereas God is the light to allow your mind to see the mental world.
God is morality.

I believe the God in those senses, though I don't believe in an absolute "being".

This should've just been a yes or no thing. It's kind of disappointing me, not because people don't or do believe in God, but just some of the replies and the way they were written. Although I do know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Yesterday I held a presentation about "Origin of Life" in front of my inorganic class, so I think I can say something about it.
Indeed, it has been proven that life can originate from simple inorganic molecules which can then react and condense with each other with these and those catalysts and form the "bodies" which we now have. Theoretically. I am yet to see someone creating a full human being (in any age phase) and receiving a Nobel Prize for 5 years for that.

But what would you define as "life"?
Is being able to breath, eat, drink, poop enough to be called "living"?
Life has a lot of aspects. Even if you can't see "soul" directly you can easily see it from the personality, from the attitude, etc. Not everything is determined by genes. Genes determine things like hair colour, skin colour, intelligence (probably), and some even determine your criminal tendency (xyy-gene), but genes don't determine personality, your likings, your dislikings. Therefore I believe a living body itself isn't enough to have a "life". Souls exist. And that's where God comes in.
In the Bible (even if some of you clearly don't believe it), it is said that :

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2 :7)

Whatever God you believe in, I think the concept is the same. God gives souls to human beings, so they can "live".

And just because bodies can form so logically without any heavenly help, doesn't mean it is not God's wonder. Haven't you guys thought that maybe the beauty of earth, the way human beings are so developed, and so on are no coincidence? I mean how many coincidences do you see in life?
To put it easier : how many of you actually passed the chaos scrolls 1% and get the best upgrade?
If you understand the concept of entropy you might understand that "inorder" is what every reaction mechanism strive to get, not "order".
The mere fact that things are there where we have them right now, and that we live peacefully without even wondering why the hell Oxygen molecules don't come in single state (spin multiplicity) naturally so we would all burn when we breathe in oxygen is for me wonder enough to believe that a God exists.

Yeah, that's all =P

I'm Christian. That's enough to be said.

I'm not replying anymore, I don't like reading people's comments in these kinds of threads.

Do you believe in god? - Dagger - 2008-07-16

Yes, I believe in God.

I'm not going to stay in the thread and add to useless debates.

Do you believe in god? - Flintlock - 2008-07-16

It's fun to read these threads on 4chan. Trolling comes up really quick.

Anyways, no I don't. I don't see why someone HAD to make us. So much to explore in the human mind, and actually take that as true? No thanks, not with proper justification.

Do you believe in god? - MasPan - 2008-07-16

I believe in something that created the basic laws that govern existence. From that point on, events happened within those laws to create our existence as it is today. Basically, I am a Deist.

Do you believe in god? - Cybuster - 2008-07-16

No.

People created God. Not the other way around.

You can jump on my back all you want for this next statement of mine, but, Religion was, is, and ever shall be just another way of controlling people.
