It looks like that portal has the Time Gate used in Neo City. I'm thinking maybe CMS kept the original NLC and uses that portal to travel into the future to the newly destroyed NLC. That way they have both.

It just shows how lazy Nexon was when they did the NLC "revamp", considering they were too lazy to make a dying animation for the aliens. That's pretty sad.
