how can you get into social circles? - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-01-09

When I was at a younger level, it was hard at times to feel 'fit in'. When I became a Hermit, I befriended people along the way. And then there was a social-circle. Believe it or not, 25% of my BL friends did indeed knew each other, whether it be from their own guild, or from BL. So if I said "Hey, Gina. Guess what Adam did today?", and then Gina would ask "What?", Adam would interrupt via BL chat and say "Stfu", for example. And of course, me and Gina would be able to see the chat. We were good friends.

It takes one to know one, and I knew the both of them since I was 5x. I knew Adam from another message boards involving "Tales Series", and met Gina through Adam. Adam had his gf playing, of course, all 3 of them joined KoM (Knights of Maple) after Adam and his gf left my guild, Drakonia. Of course, we were the best of friends even through out 4th job, though they all eventually quit. But sometimes, just going out there, recruiting people to the game, or being open-minded can help.

I've personally gotten to meet tons of awesome people on MapleStory and all because we all use SP.

For an example, I bumped into Jaruddd at Elliza; and recognized him. We had a nice chat for some time, and now we're pretty tight.
Me and PirateIzzy met because we both won a GM Trivia contest on the same day, and talked to each other about it.
I could go on about how I met Spidey, Bacon, and a few others; but I'm too lazy to.

Find a good guild, buddy people who seem nice, be a fairly active (and social) player.

You don't really try to fit into a social circle or whatever the hell you want to call it; it should happen naturally.

No offense, but with this attitude, I doubt you'd get into many social circles.

You make me have an urge to transfer to Bera. However, I have too many acquaintances, friends, and allies in Scania. A lot of people will recognize me based on my IGN alone, so it'd feel awkward in a different server.

what are the pros and cons of newer./older servers?

how can you get into social circles? - Milelke - 2010-01-09

Newer:
Pro- Empty, Less Crowded
Con-Empty, Harder to make 'friends', or find buddies, Expensive, Lack of Funding, Usually no MTS
Older:
Pro- Crowded, Easier to find buddies, Less expensive, MTS, Less Unique, Most likely to find RL Friends/People.
Con- Crowded, hard to do everything else

If your a lower levell, PQ
I made 9/10 of my buddies in the early stages of MS from pqing. Once you meet one person, they will introduce you to multiple others which will eventually create a circle of "friends" around you.

If your a higher level, sign up for zruns / horntail / cwkpq / etc
As you PQ more and more with these people, you will eventually get closer and closer with them

Also, joining Guilds helps a lot. Most of the tighter knit communities within MS are from people of the same Guild.

Finally
Find out if there is a local vent channel in your server and hang out there. Its a good way to hang out, talk, and get to know others (assuming you have a mic.)

If this is rl
Participate in sports, clubs, activities, or just start talking to people in your classes. As long as your friendly, it really isn't that hard to make friends. If there is one thing i've learned, its that small talk does wonders.

Finally, If your a wrinkly old man that is no longer in school,
Go to Bingo Night.

DualReaver Wrote:The way to do this inside Maplestory itself is to go to a relatively small server, and then make friends, and then stalk those friends occasionally. Hang out with your friend's friends, and soon you will become friends with them as well. It's also important that you be active and know how to have fun. Biggrin

I just want to say this is an awful idea. Don't ever stalk your friends friends or you will lose friends because this is creepy and forceful and no one wants that kind of person around them.

Also, websites like southperry are the best for making buddies in game. Most of my buddy list is southperrians and we all support each other greatly. If you want to keep friends you have to be willing to give a lot of yourself to them. New friendships may bloom from there but never ever ever ever force yourself into anyone's life.

I said stalk your FRIENDS and then meet THEIR friends once you get there. I never said to stalk someone outside of your BL.

I have 2 southperrians from khaini on BL... i just see you all talking to each other...

But yeah... TS you are pretty much asking how to make friends. Thats what a social circle is. Its a group of friends... I can tell you might have been the reason your last one collapsed. You can either be a hene-ho and make friends like that, or just train in parties. Go up to random people and ask to get in a party, maybe have a conversation. Jesus, you really cant have a "method" of making friends... you kind of have to go meet people, and if you become friends thats what happens.

Though... joining a bigger and more talkatvie guild or alliance goes a long way towards connections.

If all these other posted suggestions arnt getting you results, spend some time in the mts and buy your way into social circles. Its a method thats worked well for quite a few Berans.

Depends on your server, really.

I play in Yellonde which is annoyingly small, back when I did things like KPQ and LMPQ I saw A LOT of the same faces. And those faces eventually found their way onto my Buddy List. :/

how can you get into social circles? - Russt - 2010-01-10

Do things in groups, because these force you to interact with others. For lower levels especially, PQing is a great idea. When I started in Khaini I didn't know anyone there, but I met several friends through Kerning PQ, and a few just from meeting people in places like Pig Beach (I'll admit this was much easier in my situation, because the server was a few hours old and there was just this huge influx of new characters everywhere without any other allegiances). From there, one of these friends created a guild, which I joined, and then the people in the guild invited other friends, and then we got to know each other, etc etc.

Guilds aren't always just for the name. In my opinion, guild can be a better buddy list than the buddy list itself, because you have this group and everyone in the group can hear what everyone else is saying; no one's left out or confused by hearing only half a conversation. However, it's best when you already know at least a couple of people from the guild, because then you won't feel as much of a stranger, but you'll also be able to meet new people as well.

This. So much this. My guild has existed for a year, and started out as a small circle of friends. I knew around 3 of them, and joined in around month 3 to help with GPQ. And we've been tight friends ever since. We've all been there for each other, had fun, joked around a lot, killed a few things, met lots of new people, and seen a few good friends leave. But the family never dies, and we'll keep it going for as long as it's possible.

You don't need to socialize, it's just a distraction from the main goal of this game(being level 200). Just open the game and kill monsters non-stop until you are 200. Forget about everyone else because it's all useless. Play on your own.
