Creation or Evolution? - Mira - 2008-07-13 Hmmm... God made the first forms of life, and we evolved from that. He sent it from space! woot!

Creation or Evolution? - GuineaPiggy - 2008-07-13 I chose both. I mean, I mostly believe in creationism, but also evolution to an extent. Like, in my mind, God created everything and then He just kinda...let things run on their own. (there's a certain term for that belief, I just don't remember what it's called XD). Creation or Evolution? - Beaner - 2008-07-13 Retalion Wrote:Going to a Christian high school and taking Biology 11, what they taught made sense to me: The world was created by an intelligent being, but evolution is true in places such as the "survival of the fittest", how organisms adapt to their surrounding environment, etc. Humans came from monkeys? No thanks. typical catholic misconception. humans didnt evolve from "monkeys". evolution of homo sapiens came to be from a common hominid ancestor. meanin at some point in the past an animal resembling a human and a monkey (we look a lot alike and share 98% of our genetic information) lived and some of them decided to live in trees some to go to the ground. those ont he ground evolved into humans. thats the really simplified and still not 100% correct answer, but close enough for a maple story forum. more in my class room next semester. I wasnt trying to make a point at all >_> And Carlos, I suppose we'll agree to disagree on the point (regardless of how "politically incorrect" I am with the "humans came from monkeys" comment, heh). I dont believe humans and monkeys came from a common ancestor but rather that both were created uniquely but that's just me. In a very tl;dr version: someone who questions god's existence. Creation or Evolution? - IsaacGS - 2008-07-13 There is no debate here. It is a fact that evolution occurs. This is religion trying to destroy scientific fact. Flintlock Wrote:In a very tl;dr version: someone who questions god's existence.Agnostic is stating that it is impossible to know whether or not there is a god, and that it's pointless to argue about. Basically undecided. Creation or Evolution? - ยป-Chris-> - 2008-07-13 I have never believed in any life that is higher than us, such as a god. The facts all go to science, and I think some religions can cause several undesirable effects to our planet. Creation or Evolution? - Lylac - 2008-07-13 Evolution and creationism can't be compared. One relies purely on faith, and the other on scientific data. Creationism belongs in churches and cannot be tested as scientific fact or theory. Science is not a bunch of half-assed hypotheses strung together; there are tests and experiments and data collection that goes along with it to see if you can significantly suppport your hypotheses and turn it into a theory, or even a law. Of course I pick evolution over creationism simply because there is substantial evidence for evolution. Creation or Evolution? - Nickish - 2008-07-13 As the good words spoken by Gerorge Carlin i dont belive that"there is a man in the sky that whatches you an if you misbehave he has a place for you calld hell an you will burn an rot for ever but he loves you" was never a firm bed time story beliver =[ Creation or Evolution? - Cardboardsnail - 2008-07-13 Creation to start Evolution to progress Creation or Evolution? - Eldin - 2008-07-13 Well, I really don't care how the universe was created - sorta hypocritical of me, because I'm going into a career in physics, but whatever. I believe in the Christian god and natural selection, but I've read enough strange stuff coming from people attempting to prove or improve Darwinian evolution (space seeding, punctuated equilibrium) in light of their own findings to convince me that you're all just as crazy as we are. There is one alternative to my faith, however: we're a cyclical simulation run by a possibly cruel and scientific (lol tautology) extra-universal group of entities. I'm basically waiting here for a Game Over screen, for Thor or Jesus to come blast some heads, or for my dog to give birth to a non-dog. It'll be a while, I think. Creation or Evolution? - Felicitates - 2008-07-13 I've had multiple arguments with my family about this (they're hardcore Catholics and think Maplestory is anti-christ )I support evolution. Why? Evidence. People argue me by saying, WELL, GOD CREATZ EVOLUSHUNS. Whatever. Believe what you want, I'll believe what I want. Creation or Evolution? - Lunatica - 2008-07-13 The way this poll was structured made me a little uncomfortable. I'm a pretty strong atheist that believes in evolution. However, the theory of evolution has no need of knowing what created everything, be it God or a first cause or whatever you think created the universe, if anything. All you do is dictate the conditions of a certain species and environment and obtain certain patterns of development by applying the theory of evolution. It has no need of answering where things came from for it to work. For that reason I think the poll is a bit weird because even though I voted Evolution, I kind of felt that maybe I should vote Both due to the fact that anything could have started the process, and it doesn't matter what it was. Creationism and primarily Christianity is certainly destructive and deterring the fact of evolution from being taught, but more general definitions of God really have no bearing on it at all. So Evolution and (specific versions of) Creationism do clash ALL THE TIME, but they are not necessarily mutually exclusive. I hope my thoughts were clear. And I know *some* people are too thick to think so deeply, sadly. Creation or Evolution? - Berzerk - 2008-07-13 The one thing I learned is that Science trumps everything. If you have proof supporting something, then it's true. We have proof that Evolution has happened. We have no proof of some 'Higher Being' creating the universe, or the world we live in today. The Bible isn't proof, it's merely a book. And it's nothing more than that. Creation or Evolution? - Sn1perJohnE - 2008-07-13 Look! Darwinism is winning! Besides vaguely and I stress vaguely fulfilled "prophecies", of which you could find anywhere if you looked into it as much as people look into the bible. And gives concrete evidence on how the Bible, and 'creationism' is mostly fictional. |
