No, I will not support the nasty horrible things you would do to that poor helpless rug.

I don't think the amount of money spent on NX is related to how many characters you have, or what level they are. Between my husband and I, we've spent around $3000 in 4 years, and that has given us 4 level 200s: two HP-washed characters, a DK and BM and two mages. The bottomless pit of NX spending isn't 2x exp cards, charms, pets or store permits. It's the gambling and attention whoring. We don't gachapon, we hardly buy mushie shops, we don't change our hairstyles every month, and we only smega to congratulate our friends on important level ups.
Thankfully, because of MTS, I haven't bought an NX card in over a year and the HP-washing I did on my BM came solely from MTS conversion. Although I do wish we hadn't spent so much on this particular game (because Nexon sucks) I do realize that if we didn't have Maplestory as a hobby for the both of us, we would have spent more money going out to the movies, going out for dinner and probably video game systems and games to occupy our time...because since we're both gamers, if it wasn't Maplestory, it would be something else :f7:
Let's test your theory.
In order for it to b e true the following statement must be true for you - If you had less characters, would the amount you've spent be the same?
Just because you don't spend the same amount as others per character, per level, does not mean there is no correlation between amount spent and the number of characters and cumulative level.
It just means your own amount per capita is less than someone else's.
Your true statement you seem to be trying to make is that the majority of expense compared to others wasn't from "necessities" but extras they took that you don't, but to some degree that' a matter of opinion in defining what's necessary.
In the case of an IL for example, specifically a high luck one, getting a 163 elemental staff was considered a necessity to speed up leveling, since it meant being able to 1HKO many levels earlier and therefore level that much faster - And that was only available by gaching and are one of the rarest items in some worlds.
It's a rationalization, but most of life is.
^who said its about reaching 'the' level? (sorry if i missed it)
i have spent about 250 in 5 years some of the nx i regret cause net making the max out of it. all tought i know i spent easly 30 euro each week on going out thats ~1500 each year. soo it isnt that much after all. Than again the amout of time i spent will not having fun on maple. man i regret it.
ooh wel sorry for my mistaking
i think you spent a bit too much. even tought you paid all things before and such. but if you spent like 1000 $ less do you think it would have old much fun away?
like i said i spended 250 euro and about 200 i used good. i mean thats the money i dont regret
In the year of 2008 I spent $500 max on NX, in 2007 I spent more around $1000, and so far this year it's easily under $300. I realized that spending money on the Cash Shop clothes is a complete waste of money, because I get nothing out of it. I gear most of my purchases now towards Hair/Eyes, Gachapon, Stores, and things like Karma Scissors, x2 Coupons and Safety Charms/Owls. The only thing I purchase that expires would be pets. It's the fact that the Pet with a auto HP/MP thing turns out to be very helpful, since I'm lazy, which makes the purchase worth it to me.
I understood I spent a lot of money on NX, but as you can see I obviously cut back A LOT. I can happily say in the 3 years I've played I've spent under $3000 total on the game.
I've spent $450 at the very most, over the course of 4 years of playing. After the Cash Shop was introduced, I would spend about $23 every three months to renew my NX clothing, pet, and coin magnet (I quit about a year and a half ago). I had once spent $35 or so on Gach and maybe $30 on AP resets. That's about it.
some people spend more then others, IF YoU HAVE THE MONEY TO AFFORD IT THEN I SAY GO FOR IT.
that is all.
maple is one of the cheapest ways to spend money out there.. thikn about it.. eos spent several thousands of dollars over like 2 years... when you work that out its next to nothing in the grand scheme of entertainment. A 2 hour movie will run ya upwards of 5 bucks an hour.. a modereatly well made can run you 60 bucks for like 20 hours of gameplay thats leik 3 bucks an hour i see there the avg per month spent was like 350$given a 30 day month... thats like 48 cents an hour (assuming no sleep/work) lets be realistic and say the game was played for... 8 hours a day (looks @ level) your still only talking like 1 dollar and 50 cents an hour...
it's an amazing way to use money and you really get your moneys worth for the cost, now.... if you can show me something else you can do for 8 hours a day for 2+ years that is as fun and costs less then a 12 bucks a day (don't even mention WoW ppl buy gold in that >.>) lemme know..
That's why you amass 25.9k HP like my Dark Knight. :tongue: If you need a pet at that point, you need help. :ohno:
I spent $600 on Habbo,
and a grand total of $1700 on MapleSEA. (for two years)
then I gave up.
I probably spent ~700-800 over the span of ~3 years.
Buy me a cookie Eos; me no have job like joo. :f4:
It is in my case.
I've bought a few items with NX over the years
- NX hair/eyes
- NX clothes
- pets (and pet items)
- inventory expansion
- some gachapon with Maple Points from events
- weddings (paid for 1 with $, 1 with MTS)
The first 4 are character dependent - I make a new character, I need more. My Paladin has a Panda and a Rudolph, my DK has a Monkey (and a Turkey that I got free), my NL has a Brown Puppy. It's around level 50-60 that I typically get them - when the speed of looting vs. the total amount looted vs. the training exp/hour balances out and it's affordable and useful. (a pet is pretty freakin nice at Jr. Newties on a ranged class)
On the other hand, I don't buy concurrent pet equips. If my Paladin has a looting pet, my NL doesn't. So I guess in that sense it's less based on # characters.
With a minor exception (my DK got a new hairstyle when NLC came out, cause I really liked it) I buy a character hair/eye NX once and stick with it after that. So the more characters I make, the more hair/face coupons I buy. I set an arbitrary limit, min level 30 so I don't spend too many, and I don't get them every time, but that still gives me over half a dozen characters with NX looks.
Inventory expansions go with char level too- the higher my Hermit gets, the more I want. Same for Paladin/DK, if I'm doing 4-6 hour grind sessions I don't want to repot. I think my Paladin has 8 expansions, NL has 5-6, DK has 2. The Paladin, being an older character (with Quest medal) has more of the "fluff" that takes up equip/etc. space corresponding to needing more expansions.
I've only spent maybe $250-300 total since 2005 so it's not on the same scale, I guess if you change your look frequently, or buy hundreds of smegas/gach tickets per month it's less character dependent.
If my Paladin was my only character, I'd have got 1 hair style, 2 face style, 2 hair colour, 3 eye colour coupons. Used Reg on all of them since there weren't VIP at the time (I got them all in the first month it was possible, no change since then). And I would have 2 pets. I haven't bought anything for the character since then - it just doesn't seem necessary. So the extra characters do add to my total spending.
In a period when I'm "playing" rather than busy with schoolwork, typical expenditures would be - (1800) transparent hat (5200) random overall / top+bottom (2400*3) pet revival+item/meso loot. I'll get them as fits my main character, and wait until they expire to get something else.
When I'm not playing full-time, I still sometimes spend a little on an event or face/hair coupons, depending how the game goes. But that's a lot less consistent.
haha wow i spent less than $100 total on MS.
I've always wondered if getting a pet and meso magnet would balance out in terms of NX spended / Meso earned. I still haven't reached a conclusion, though I think it would help at skeles since I'm misting and not looting. However once I start doing ultimates I guess I wouldn't even go near to where the monsters died so the pet wouldn't really help...
If you're at newties, maybe.
If you're doing ultimates at skeles you'll be circle two levels of a map, nonstop while someone else does the same to the other two, generally.
All that aside, either map means being constantly hit, which means having mguard on, which means having to keep your MP high enough to keep you alive in the event of a direct hit, while blowing 7k per pop. Pets and autopot are pretty helpful there.
It really isn't likely to, esp. with the current 75mil tag on just the basic pet stuff. Ores (crystal particularly) and equips will be the main income anyway and you don't need a pet for those.
I just can't stand to leave items around, and at newties the drops all end up on top of each other so it's hard to pick up equips anyway. My Paladin's fine w/o a pet at Temple of Time, cause I'm not killing 10-15 every 5 seconds.
I just bought a $10 card and it's all your fault, topic.
I don't even feel bad about it... much.
I also bought Sly Cooper 3 for $6 grade A purchase.
And I thought my NX deck was big..
Spoiler
I'm in kinda the same boat. This topic is getting me planning my NX for next month. My NX expires on Halloween. :f7:
I think I've spent around $350 USD since I started playing 2.5 years ago. That's a little less that what it'd be for a monthly subscription to WoW. I still feel bad every time I spend the money on NX. But I know I spend far less than a lot of people which makes me feel... less bad. :excellent: That, and the fact that my NX items have become almost a necessity for my regular gameplay. Such as 90-day store permit, pet and pet equips. I'm now dividing my time between my cleric and MM and just shuffling Pengi between the two. That's getting a bit annoying so I'll probably revive my husky next month for my cleric. :tongue:
Holy crap you've given a lot of money to Nexon. =O
Woah woah. Let's get back on topic guys.
...You give your buddies nx....
Spoiler
Until now I always thought spending $50 a year on nexon cash was alot of money to be spending. o.o
Same. I just put it all in perspective and started doing this: Mint.com
I set myself a $15/month budget for NX; that way, I know if I go over the amount I'd be spending on WoW or something. I made myself wait until the beginning of this month to hammer my overall... :f3: Dam 65%s burning a hole in my inventory.
My roommate multi-logs in FFXI and he spends more per month than I spend on MS. =) He's one of the most powerful people on his server, though, so thinking in MS terms, he'd probably be spending a lot more. But not necessarily... Some people could get to 200 and stuff by using the MTS only, but then, it's a lot more work.
Quoted for truth. But then, I feel like I'm stealing their money or something. My MS husband is almost twice my age (I'm 21), and he works for a living (actually, he plays at work a lot). He keeps wanting to gift me 2x cards. I say no because I like to use every bit of the 4-hour 2x cards during a planned grinding session, and I don't have time to do that often these days. Today, he says, "Even if you only use it a few hours, it lasts longer than a cup of coffee, and costs the same."
My retort was, "Yes, but I make my own coffee. F3"
It's true. I'm cheap and I know it. My mom instilled that virtue and vice in me. I felt so guilty about spending the 8.5k NX on my overall at first, but it's less than I would've spent on an impromptu lunch at Olive Garden or something...
Buying NX is like going out to eat. You could just make your own food (spend a bit each month and go without or MTS for the rest), but you spend extra money to satisfy your wants and needs faster, sometimes to be social with others.
I feel guilty for going out to eat sometimes, but only because I'm a poor college student. Same with NX. Expenditures I feel the most iffy about were probably in May of both years I've played. The first May, I splurged on using the MTS to equip my page because my ambitions were bigger than my mesos-pocketbook. The second May, I spent on 2x cards in a mad dash to get to 120. Neither one I really regret, since I'm still reaping the benefits today. I sort of regret buying 2x drop cards this summer, though, with the NX-meso ratio so high. :f4: Not doing any more of that.
According to Mint, I have spent $105 on Maplestory since December of last year, but I only spent $37 on Movies. :f3: Someone I know spends at least $100 a month on movies, both in the theaters and on DVD.
I've been playing since the fall of '06, though not seriously until early 2007... So, I think, maybe a year with no NX at all, $200-250 in total at the maximum? My bank doesn't let me see my transactions online unless I opt out of paper statements, and I'm too lazy to go get the paper statements for anything other than what my roommates owe me on utilities. :f3:
quick update to my earlier post on this thread...
relating to that post--- my NX spending was higher than some due to the fact that i have every character on individual accounts and maxed storage one all accounts and am unable to share NX (aside from gifting back n forth which i do often-yay free fame!) i think if all my IGNs wer eon 1 acct id spend less since id be able to share but nevertheless that was a clarification on that post.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my main reason for posting now is to say i was just paying my bills and balancing my checkbook when holy hell--i realised how much i spend now that im off maple! in the past 45 days i spent 1008.83 on just entertainment/clothes :X this included meals and movies out with my BF who also spent at least what i did on those activities... shopping and buying FOUR new pairs of sneakers id never have wanted had i still been on maple! and dinners out at 50 bucks a pop really add up as well....
we're planning a trip to NY in 6 weeks and im saving another grand to the side just for food n shopping! hotel on top of it will be another 500$...
LIFE IS EXPENSIVE!!!
i can so see myself back on maple poor as hell after new year's! hope some damn good content is out so i can pass time while saving up for a trip to vegas.
56!
I used to buy alot of NX, I'd say at least a grand within a few months of starting the game. I started much later than alot of my friends playing and used MTS to catch up in gear/levels. Luckily NX was 1:2 then (miss that...) so I got pretty good gear for the amount used. But now I MTS everything :) Raised over 300k within the past 2 or 3 months so I'm content on never buying NX again. Especially since I stopped playing a NL as a main LOL, so don't need 10 ap resets per level T_T.
I have spent somewhere in the vicinity of $9000-$12000. There comes a time where you lose track lol. Most of it was spent on Gachapon in both MSEA and GMS.
