There is a faster way to get around later. I don't see what you don't like about it; I thought it was the best game in the franchise. Completely made up for the steaming pile of series-ruining-pomegranate that was 'til The End of Time.
Spoiler
Why should they be TRYING to following boring character archetypes? Not that I particularly liked most of the characters in SO4, but I think that complaining about them not being MORE stereotypical is kind of ridiculous. I mean, the kid was creepy and her relationship with whathisface was pineappleing gross. Welch was annoying as pomegranate (pineapple YOU LAURA BAILEY). The little cat girl whose name I can't remember was also annoying. I really like the scythe-user, and the pink-haired magician. Edge and ...I want to say Miranda? His love interest, anyway, weren't horrible. They weren't terrific either, though. But yeah, more cliche would've been worse.
And I loved the battle system. Blindsides are the pomegranate. Story was also decent, though it was a little too sci-fi at some points (though I think the "Return to Earth" is really awesome). Either way, it beats the hell out of WE'RE ALL CHARACTERS IN A VIDEO GAME, and because of that dumb plot twist they had no choice but to take the story back to a prequel (and I wouldn't have played it if they had continued on from that point with either a) everyone blissfully unaware of the truth of their existence, b) everyone aware but keep going as if it never happened or c) have someone else try to interfere from the fourth dimension. which are really the only ways the could've gone with it.) So instead we get to see the events that lead up to Star Ocean 1, and as players we get to keep it in mind that NONE OF THIS IS REAL (INCEPTION) but at least it's not a present factor in the story. Stupidest god damn plot twist ever I WANT TO PUNCH TRI-ACE FOR DOING THAT TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE SERIES.
First off, Spoilers.
Spoiler
I had not met a number of the characters you mentioned so far, so I can't judge on that. I'll agree with you that I absolutely hated the ending for 'til the end of time, and that it really made no sense. However, I still very much enjoyed the game-play. Nostalgia goggles quick addition is probably a factor as well.
Now, I haven't played through the first or the second of the franchise despite my owning the second, so I can't say one way or another on that topic. But certain things that were present there are degraded here "In my opinion".
1.) Item creation. The game has apparently removed additional characters and given you the number of things that could be created from the start. While completionists would find the list elsewhere, example, it still gave a bit more of a curiosity to things.
2.) Maps. Ok, SO3 was a peach to map complete, but if I'm remembering right, the map wasn't given to you from the start and was so large as to include spoilers. I mean, really; I can tell that the planets will have a revisit from them and can see where "surprise events" are going to happen from the get go. There are some advantages to that, I'm sure, but it just bothers me while playing.
3.) Dictionary. I think this was a problem in the prior game as well, but I look at it fairly often; and they aren't accounting for other terms within the description that have yet to be defined. I found the name of the Gregori far before it was even explained that they were referring to those crystals. I found the description of planets before they were even mentioned in the storyline. I just don't like the spoilers when I see them placed out in game. The dictionary should have been a bit more dynamic in that it could replace key terms with vague descriptions until that entry was explained as well.
On the point of characters, I don't think that they need to be any more stereotypical than they are at all; just that it seems it was what they were aiming for, and that it doesn't really feel like the movements match up with the emphasis that the characters are portraying in their voices. Again, I'm probably just getting tired of it which is why I was being more analytical than on prior games. It doesn't mean that I don't see it elsewhere; because I do, and they are overused. If anything, there is a little originality in the character of Edge in that he can mostly hold in his temper versus other wild youth which I have to give them credit for; but the whole remainder of the cast so far have just been bland to me somehow or another.
Lastly the point about the battle system; yeah, I was doing it wrong. I've gotten the hang of it since then, but would have liked a "back me up/heal" tactic so that I'm not required to be the full time healer during boss fights.
Don't take it as a personal dislike of the game as much as me just getting tired of the JRPG formula. Likely due to the size of my library. I am still playing it after all, so I am having fun with it. I understand that originality is basically impossible in terms of character creation asides from scenario. I guess I just am being overly critical as it is among my first impressions for the current gen that I'm catching up with and have had to wait so long to afford and experience.

Holy pomegranate what!?" ending. Seriously, what? She looks like... 14? The devs really screwed Rena's age, character design wise.
Anyway, now I remember why I didn't remember how this game ended when I played the PS version. omgwtpbbq difficulty level increase for the very last boss, and that is with limiter. As a completion whore I think I might have removed the dude's limiter before fighting the boss back then. Plus, how the hell would I have known that there was an extra dungeon after reaching the last save point (accessible from some remote generic npc) when the only hint about it is the game save file turning blue (in the psp version at least) and perhaps the oracle specialty, which is frigging useless so why the hell would anyone level that up?
But anyway. Enjoyed the game, been years since I last played a game that lasted a gazillion hours.

Got my platinum trophy in FFXIII-2 and bought Lightning's DLC episode and got the secret ending for that so I'm done as far as I'm concerned.
Gonna finish up Nier next. Probably won't get the platinum just yet because it's grind heavy and I just want to get the story completed.

Re: What are you playing?
I need to get out of this testing mindset; I swear. I own the PS3 now, I don't have to use it as a piece of work equipment. I'm being critical over every little thing. Of course, that could also have to do with being back on meds I hadn't taken in over 8 years... Anyway >.>
Trophies
Having been a console gamer for a long time, I generally had always set my own goals, and still saw myself as a perfectionist where applicable and/or possible with my skill level. When steam came along and I joined in thanks to it's cheapness, I thought very little of the achievement system they had. In fact, the only game I have full achieves in there is Psychonauts, and that was because I loved the game, and when they updated the achievements, there was a steam "achievement bonanza" thing going on that they have with rewards in the winter and the summer. Having put over 1000 hours into TF2 thanks to the fun it offered and it's aid in leeching me off of Maple, I never bothered to go out of my way for achieves there; and am sitting on about 2/3s the achieves. Then there were games like Super Meat Boy which just made me shake my head and go, "no!".
Fast forward to the PS3. Several 3rd party titles span across between PC and the new consoles I didn't have (only had a Wii and old DS prior to the PS3), and along with them comes the same achievements. The only difference is that Steam offers much more detailed data about the achievements, and the PS3 has arbitrary ranks associated with them, and an arbitrary number from the totals you collect. That minute difference; just the addition of a numeric value; for some reason has me driving my goals in the direction they had laid out. A simple number that I even tell myself has no real purpose, yet calls to me and commands my attention. I don't get why it works, but it does.
Platinum'd Disgaea 3; more details below.
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time
I was glad to experience this sort of gameplay again; it really feels lacking in today's market. Finished the game on normal 100% so far. But as I mentioned before, I've been very critical over certain details lately. I can't say this game was as enjoyable as the first few. The mechanics may be improving as time goes on, but I really enjoyed the interactions between Ratchet and Clank themselves, which this game lacked due to the story. Sure Dr. Nefarious and Captain Quark are amusing, but they don't quite fill that gap that they had as partners. Also, they really didn't test the boots enough. I had a bugged mission with me the entire game since I jumped a chasm I was supposed to use a wrench on a platform for when I was exploring for stuff. Also, I wound up having to reset getting stuck in the scenery a few times when I was looking for golden bolts pre-mapper. They placed those mushroom guys on a ledge above you in the first world, and I swore there had to be a way to get there. I managed to escape the world 3 different ways in my attempts.
Still, I consider this a game worth my money.
Star Ocean 4
Just past stone sickness (not bacculus). Improving some.
Minecraft
Still pretty much waiting on first party mod support, but I checked out a the Technic launcher and a few mods for the first time in my MC experience. Granted I did it on my laptop so as not to screw up my desktop client, so it wasn't a good representation. Still I like a lot of the concepts. I can also see how there are several directions for MC that don't really mesh well. I'd like to see first party division of modes like back when they split survival and creative; but actually include all the standard content in both subdivisions. Hopefully beyond that we could have an in launcher browser checklist that tells you which mods are known to have conflicts with one another and be able to activate and deactivate them at will. Maybe make a default "phantom" block to represent blocks that are from certain mods when the mods are inactive rather than corrupting the map.
There's probably already all sorts of stuff within the community that already does this; but I'd still like to see them set up a reliable interface and then let the modders just go wild with it.
Disgaea 3
So... yeah.
Said I'd stop where I was and not continue. Didn't happen. I set myself up to be dragged further in, and then by a series of flukes, I managed to get the Platinum. And I do mean flukes. Quite honestly, I felt as if platinum should have taken both longer, and shorter for me to achieve. Longer because I wasn't actually prepared; and shorter because players before me had the advantage of 100% dropout rate, which would have decreased duping time dramatically.
For now, let me list the series of mistakes I made to drag me further in.
1.) Buying the DLC: I made the choice to buy this DLC over Tales of Graces F. I figured I had to make use of what I had before investing my time in another game that I already had something on my backlog similar to play. I consider Star Ocean's gameplay to be similar to that of Tales of games. I'm not saying that they are identical, but kinda like how Dragon Quest is to early Final Fantasies. I have a huge backlog, so this was supposed to act as some sort of restraint so that I could catch up with it. Ultimately, I regretted it as a majority of the expensive items are not interesting, and realistically, half of those extra characters should've been in by default anyway. The price tag also really hammered me long term since I still won't be able to get Tales of Graces for another 2 months now. In addition to the downside on money, I wound up feeling the need to unlock every character I had purchased, and completing the extra chapters (which I was vastly over-leveled for thanks to misinformation).
2.) Gathering Statisticians Mid-First Playthrough: I admit to looking at the cheats section on gamefaqs in advance to see what it took to unlock certain classes and tiers. That has always been one of my goals within these games, and from there I wound up seeing information about Statisticians, and ultimately duping. Had duping not existed, I likely would not have gotten this far.
3.) Constantly preparing for the next goal: I kept setting myself up with mini-goals, and giving myself preparation for the next stage of difficulty. I did the tedious stuff in the middle of the story, so when it came to post-game I kept being shocked by the fact "I'm ready for this?".
At the end of the day, going for my own goals ended up being further than what the game had given to me. By the time I had gotten all the 39 weapons, I had already gotten a vast majority of the pirate trophies; and by the time I had gotten all the 40 rank ones, I had completed them. The other trophies were mostly done here and there between others, with the exception of the bounce one and the reverse viking one which I had to go out of my way specifically for. After finding that I could do reverse viking on a regular level 20 item, it became much easier; and the bouncing amounted to just creating characters for it, and not saving afterward.
I was sort of surprised by the 10 billion one. The DLC made it much easier than I'd imagine it would be, but all I needed was my first character to have violence transferred to her and a maxed Baal Body (first and only one of two maxed weapons) with maxed Brave heart buff, Red Prismranger and Master Bigster next to her, on a ally boost 50% panel, using a level 6 rank S skill on the prinny hero. Again, I didn't actually expect it to work.
The final 3 pirates were just flukes outright. If I hadn't accidentally gotten the first one, this would have again been a stopping point for me.
Baal Pirates: 1st Run. I was in the middle of maxing my first rank 40 weapon when I got bored and decided to do the last 10 levels in the land of carnage. Literally my first time doing floors 91-100 there (I had done 99-100, but not waited for pirates), I found the Baal Pirates on the 96th floor. There was a reverse damage geo panel, but I was concerned about the healer. Luckily he walked specifically onto silence platforms the first few turns only to be killed by an ally on the 3rd. There was also the fact that the reverse damage block was a runner, and that it simultaneously had warp on it which made it a bit difficult, but my running Space Hero fixed that each turn until I was able to throw the warp block when I knew I could sacrifice a character.
10 Gents: 12th Run. Had my first max weapon by now, but only one copy of it. Fortunately, again on the character with violence, I was able to kill them a bit quicker. Invincibility panel, but a walker block that had one of my decent attackers dead on the first turn as a result.
Prinny Pirates: 35th Run. This one was entirely dumb luck. I honestly should have failed. I sent out my sacrifice for the turn to see if there would be pirates, and then these guys show up. Down to 9 characters. I throw out my geomaster to try and make this one as cake as the other two, and I fail; the best thing I get is Evade. Down to 8 characters. I still have some confidence and toss out my one major damage dealer and throw on a couple incomplete emblems for added measure. Since I won't have enough turns to keep having sacrificial lifters go out, I also toss on my chicken hat. Being the third turn I'm fairly confident I can get at least 3 of them without any trouble. Turn goes as planned and I take no damage; but when it ends, the character poofs. At first I had no idea what happened, but then it dawned on me: emblem massive HP boost + poison = dead. Down to 7 characters; I really had no hope at this point. I threw out my shaman to attempt to poison one them in return; failure. 6 remaining. I throw out my next best attacker with a decent 39 weapon and a lifter to help keep them alive. Only 20 Mil damage out of 400 on one character, and multiple area affect skills. 4 Remaining. Decoy runner to an evade panel and one more attacker out who hopefully won't be targeted next turn. He gets targeted. However, to my surprise, they can't hit my runner, a Space hero. I knew that would be the case if I had reincarnated him into a swordswoman for her evility that nulled back and side accuracy buffs, but I hadn't reincarnated any of my generics at all at this point (deleted all of my originals except one other space hero once I had final tiers unlocked). Ran back and forth from one side of the map to the other to prove to myself that, yes, they can't touch me. Didn't really help me kill them though until I thought of what I thought was a stupid idea. I'd have them kill themselves. That actually worked as there was also a Majin with an axe among them. It ultimately got them down to one Prinny at 200 Mil and the Axe man, but he wasn't quite walking in pace with where I wanted to drag him, so I was stuck there for a bit. As a reminder, I had 3 characters left at this time including the deployed Space Hero. I tried going back and forth between the two across the map, but it still didn't guide them quite right as they always would either attack what could be in range or the lower level one. Then another thing hit me, after I sort of cornered myself on EVADE panels to go to. They had no jump. There was a reverse staircase on the map that was only one panel wide that my Space Heroes could scale. Since the AI knew it couldn't get me over there, it didn't bother going in that direction. Which meant I could keep them in one place for good by alternating the two characters. Thanks to this, I pulled out one last weak attacker who could do 20 Mil a turn, and just alternated out the lifters between the two Space Heroes on the evade panel until they were dead. A vast majority of the fight I thought I would have to come back better prepared to fight them head-on, but I managed to wing it.
Trophy Shop Trophy: 70th Run. My last trophy was ironically this. I managed to get the pirates all each one time in what I think was relatively low time compared to what I've read, but this one was the peach at the very end.
And yet, despite having Platinum now, it still doesn't feel complete. I was compelled because I had the mindset of "possible" the whole time, but I honestly expected to have more stuff maxed for the final challenges. Honestly, I think they should have done the trophies for this game a little differently. The one trophy per pirate might make it easier to remember which ones you got the maps from, but it really doesn't make for an interesting set-up. They should have had more silly ones like the ABC gum. Say, a trophy for pissing off an item world vendor; one for gaining an old skill; one for the first Baal. Maybe even so far as getting a rank 40 item. I feel that they could have included the item world within the trophies just as easily if they had done something to give it a bit more variety. I ultimately still didn't feel satisfied when I had gotten the platinum; I really had done far more preparation for what I expected to be the grinding period after I massively failed at something. I never hit that failure though.
I wound up going a little further til I got tired of the item world, and here are my end results.
Platinum.

So far only 100% completed Re:Chain of Memories,358/2,Re:Coded,and BBS (Can't find a reasonable english patch on the final mix version. :f7:)
KHII:FM+ has to be the only challenge for me right now...stupid Terra extra boss.

Re: What are you playing?
I started doing some replays of SNES games:
- Chrono Trigger (aiming for every ending)
- Super Mario World
- Yoshi's Island
- Super Mario RPG (I'm gonna try and speedrun this, not sure at what time to aim for though)
On top of that I picked up two games I haven't played yet: Romancing SaGa 3 and Earthbound. Anyone tell what's to expect from those two games? Is Earthbound anything like Mother 3? As in polished like M3?

Been going back and playing some old PS2 games. Played though and beat RC1, now working on Ace Combat 4. Probably gonna play DMC1 next, then RC2. Still waiting on a release date for Anarchy Reigns, probably going to end up buying DDS1 and Vanquish well before that time comes.
Also watched a playthrough of Asura's Wrath. Can only wish this was made into a TV show or something, 'cause HOLY pomegranate its amazing if you think of it that way.

Re: What are you playing?
Finally gathered the money for Tales of Graces F through leftovers from budgets... but my price conscientiousness kicked in again.
Yay Finances
While doing some research on the cheapest place to get it, I found a few things at reasonably distanced Gamestops that could be resold higher than I pay under the worst conditions. Therefore with the money intended for Tales of Graces F, I wound up purchasing the following;
(NEW) Atelier Rorona: Special Edition (Paid $21.50; My trade-in site offers $35.00; EBay new $80.00)
(NEW) Atelier Totori: Special Edition (Paid $28.00; My trade-in site offers $34.00; EBay new Varies it would seem)
(Used) 3D Dot Game Heroes (Just wanted it, only a $1 loss for trade in too which is ok)
I had thought about just getting one of the atelier games along with 3DDGH and White Knight Chronicles 2, but White Knight seemed common among stores as well, so it wasn't going to be something I could potentially miss. I also then considered getting a couple DS games that were rare; but then was informed of the company wide policy change to throw away all DS cases and instructions at time of trade-in from gamestops. That sickens me a little bit. Then again, I have two full boxes in the garage just full of empty game boxes (going back to my original N64 system box); so it might just be me who's the odd one.
Anyway, the reason I ended up with those games was 1. The obvious profit, and
2. I had really enjoyed the Atelier Iris sub-series. I only realized later that is was a departure from the standard style of the games primarily due to the male protagonists. These games were genuinely geared towards girl gamers (at first) from what I understand, but that departure made it possible to bring over to the states. I was initially hesitant to continue with these thanks to this and after my attempt to get into Ar Tonelico (outside of the music), but seeing the recent interests here, I thought I'd give it a shot. NOTE: I am not trying to be sexists here, and I might be wrong about things, but this is just what I inferred from the artbook (Yeah, I own the Atelier Chronicles artbook. I said I enjoyed the Iris games, didn't I? Only other book I have is Okami.).
Playing Now!
Star Ocean 4
Just finished Aeos revisit. Really grateful for the Charge skill I found there.
R&C: Crack in Time: Beat hard playthrough; one trophy to plat. 3D Dot:Just starting this, but I don't take it you can change sprites mid-game, can you? Assuming that's the case, how long is the game? I'd like to playthrough several times to at the very least see all the classes if it is short enough.
Not going to touch the Atelier games for a while despite the purchase. I still have the DS one, and both Mana variants to get through anyway. First will be the step back to PS1 games, since I'm going to NEED to trade them in shortly.
Planned Purchase Order
As of now, this is my priority list for games to buy.
Tales of Graces f
FFXIII & FFXIII-2 (Yay price drop!)
White Knight Chronicles II
Disgaea 4
DLC as needed
Sly Collection
Jak Collection
DLC & PS1 Classics
Most recent Professor Layton
XBOX 360 (Not for personal ownership, but to pay off a debt)
Blue Dragon
Tales of Vesperia
PSP 3001
And by this point Ni No Kuni should be out, so that.

Lately, when I have time, I've been playing Dragon's Dogma. Pretty good game so far, although the amount of difficulty the game has is a little infuriating at times. And it's not that the GAME is hard, but rather they make enemies SO pineappleing overpowered. I'm barely past the very beginning of the game, and traveling down one road right near the starting town, I encounter regular bandits which take me nearly 20 minutes to kill, not to mention they can kill me and my party in only one hit. It's ridiculous. I know the game is more of a "choose your battles wisely" kind of thing, but I'm so anal about that kind of stuff, I just HAVE to kill anything that gets in my way. :(

If trophies are something you actually care about I would suggest going back to it. It only takes a few extra hours to get the platinum. Most levels aren't longer than 5 minutes and it's not like it's terribly difficult even on Paladin mode. And the daunting 100,000 exp trophy is a joke. I got my plat with 60,000 exp EXTRA. Once you've got ultimate light and shadow you pretty much become unstoppable for killing things.
Trials are mostly easy with the exception of a few really pineappleing obnoxious bosses (ALL OF THE COLOSSUS BATTLES)

I support this if only to get more people to experience it.
Really though, I can't see much of a difference in terms of graphics from what the teaser videos show. As I know my experience with it was not near as gritty as they claim the PS2 version to be. Also, I only have a 720 TV, so the experience would not be all that different outside of widescreen standard. Even still as one of my most replayed games of all time, I might pick it up down the road when my priority list gets low.
Hope the hype generated with this forces Capcom to play their hand continuing the series though. Okami-den's intentional cliffhanger and general plot holes that they chose not to fill for the sake of the sequel really bothered me at the time, and I'm wanting to find out more in this "other world" they travel to (Hoping it to be more vast and non-revisit material).

Re: What are you playing?
Realized a few reason for my recent hesitance since the last post.
Starting with a side rant
Missables & Consequences
I'm a collector; I shouldn't have to restate that fact. Recently I've been trying to get around it thanks to practicality and budgeting, but it's still there.
It shouldn't come as any surprise that people who like to collect things dislike permanently missable content within a game. But I've been hearing counter-arguements about difficulty, and allowing players to never feel like they've missed something is being viewed as "too easy". Now, previously, I would have disputed this because it was about my interests, but thinking about it; most RPGs are. That much I'll give them, and I suppose that much can drive the market. But what gets to me is why have a 5 minute segment within a game with no direction to the player to find that has an effect on the end of the game without affecting the remainder of the story? In games that can take over 100 hours per completion in cases?
I find that consequence too harsh personally. Why repeat a game for one minor task? If you are going to make it pivotal within the game, how about you branch the story along with it? Change future dialog, enter different areas, gain different affinities? If all it is going to do is alter some "point score" used to determine the ending, just don't do it. Unless it is a short enough game with a good enough reason to be replayed. I can't say that most traditional RPGs can validate that on gameplay mechanics alone. Divergent story paths, perhaps, but I can't really want to go back and play say Dragon Quest 4 just for it's mechanics since they are often repeated and have newer variants that are more appealing.
Another more obvious point of this is missable items within the catalog of the game needed for 100% of something. I can definitely understand that there should be consequences for not paying enough attention within the game; more-so for intentionally doing the wrong thing. But to make that one thing entirely unavailable for the duration of the game causing a restart for that reason alone is again, way too harsh for longer games.
In cases like these, I am perfectly fine with such content as long as it is made available post-game. Heck, make it 10 times harder to emphasize that you could have gotten it easier before; just don't take it away permanently. It really ticks me off, and makes me feel like to get the best out of my time, I HAVE to follow a guide; at which point I'm not really playing the game, now am I? It winds up just following the motions and completing a task set about in an instruction manual. Quite frankly, developers need to stop doing that unless they can truly justify it with multiple endings (pushing it), multiple story arcs, or multiple ways to approach a task. This hit me a little in Valkrye Profile (stopped) and Star Ocean 4 (slow, but still playing)
Emotional Ties
Lately, I just haven't had the emotional stamina to handle story driven games so I've been crawling back to task driven ones to tie me over in the meanwhile (Disgaea 3, Kairosoft Cell Phone Games). I want to get back to them, I just can't handle most good story elements right now.
Pacing
This is why I think I had such a problem with Star Ocean 4, and I don't believe it is exclusive to the game (pretty damn sure Xenosaga had the same problem), but just the same, it's a hindrance and I don't have the patience I used to. What I mean here is that there are hours of cutscene/peaceful town actions, then hours of fighting (often without save points throughout). This led me to be overly critical of each element, since they were forcing it in your face for a period that seemed a bit too long. If they had managed to break it down a little better (more checkpoints/peaceful areas: less 5 cutscenes in a row), I probably would not have been so hard on the characters themselves. And as of now, I still haven't bothered trying to grind each area for missable database content and quests that happen in each fighting area that would likely triple duration of time I'd have to spend in them. And as it was I experienced a dungeon area going 2 hours before finding one save point from the last. Improve the split, and all of the other points I made probably wouldn't have been noticed.
Beyond Good & Evil HD
100% Completion except for mdisk 13 which required registration with Ubisoft's website. Have a separate save in case I decide to do that though. There was no platinum for this game.
Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time
Platinum gotten.
Star Ocean 4
Still in En II. I misunderstood the quest dialog for getting the wind ring and wound up doing a quest for an NPC who shared the name making me beyond broke (bought all the skills beforehand). When I finally got it, I was confused since I had spammed the X button all around the area for around 20 minutes before and nothing happened. Will likely be finishing soon.
3D Dot Game Heroes
There's really no other way to describe this than a Minecraft inspired (when was this released again?) hybrid between Legend of Zelda and Dragon Quest with intentional parody.
At first I was confused as to why they had taken the full power sword beam from Zelda and made it ridiculously overpowered. I mean, to make it silly, even the upgrades you pay for at the blacksmith ONLY APPLY to the full health version. It was like there's no point to even be alive if you aren't at full health to overkill everything. And then I found out about spelunker mode (1 hit death).
So yeah, this is one of those very, very easy games with stupidly hard challenges. Here's one to try: Play spelunker mode with no deaths using only the Gladius and secondary items. The Gladius in this game is about the length of the swords in 2D Zelda games versus the better ones in this game which are about 12 times that size.
Still, getting out of another little rut, so things are improving again. Progress should return to a reasonable pace soon.

Bought Tomba! from the PSN because it is the greatest game of all time. Finished that in a day because I've memorized every event and it's not especially long to begin with.

Re: What are you playing?
The Legend Of Dragoon, a game I've been DYING to play since I was 5.
My god...after playing it for decades on the "Playstation Underground" Demo Disk...a nice friend of mine found the full version in his closet and gave it to me. WHY DID THEY CANCEL THE SEQUEL? Oh well, the game is split into 4 disks, all pretty hard. What I think makes the game unique is the fact is uses this timing system when attacking, while retaining old-school Final Fantasy mechanics. I can't honestly explain it well however. So far after 11 hours I'm only on Disk 2...and apparently he said there's this coding error in which I can't progress unless I don't use something. God...like KH3:DDD, thankfully they patched that. So simply the story is there's this Black Dragon and some person named Lloyd, both connected to this "Dragon Campaign" that was over 11,000 years ago. The Black Dragon wants to kill this person, a "herald" who will "purify" the world, which kinda screws over the Black Dragon. Anyways, about 18 years before the game begins, the Black Dragon attacks this village in which the main character, Dartz, lives in. He is assumed to be the only survivor. (Though I briefly seen walkthroughs explaining that there was one more survivor.) Skipping ahead 18 MORE years, we find Dartz living quite peacefully until yea, Lloyd comes into the picture, blah blah blah, the Dragoons blah blah blah. I can barely remember the story and I just started yesterday. How nice.

Re: What are you playing?
I'm currently playing Final Fantasy X and it's my first time because I never had a PS2 when I was younger. I'm doing the end game just before the final dungeon and it amazes me how people had the patience to accomplish some of the ridiculous minigames. If it wasn't for savestates, I don't think I would've been able to finish the chocobo race that has the worst movement control ever. The control in the field is so fluid compared to the minigame that it made me wonder why square-enix intended it that way for the chocobo race. I guess you can say it's a minigame within a minigame itself.
Well, next up is the dodge 200 thunder bolts in a row. My face is screaming with joy right now.

Just finished the trophies for Graces F! I'm thinking about starting up Kid Icarus again. I got a little burnt out on it at first, but I'm really enjoying the online multiplayer due to its lack of a chat function.

The Last Story
Spoiler
Pretty much given up on this, I think I'm about halfway but the characters and overall plot are so boring that I'm struggling to find much in the way of enthusiasm to keep going. I also dislike how little it feels like I actually have control of what goes on in battles, mapping attack to the same control stick as movement as a horrifically bad idea.
Pandoras Tower
Spoiler
Started this since it didn't look like I was going to finish The last story soon. The game is quite good, better than it gets credit for. Far enough in the story that Elena has started eating beast flesh without hesitating, which is worrying since it's ...repulsive, to say the least. Also wondering about an old note that I found that suggests eating master flesh might not actually heal her at all, Interested to see where this goes anyway.
Project Zero 2: Wii edition (Fatal Frame 2)
Spoiler
First time playing a Project Zero/Fatal Frame game. Up to chapter 5, not really scared by the game any more, as soon as i found the camera obscura, the game lost any hope of being frightening. I don't understand how people can be afraid of these games when you're given a weapon that makes it ridiculously easy to kill any enemy you come across without even being touched, and even if you do , health items are so abundant that you won't die regardless (Currently sitting on 5 full heal sacred waters and 8 herbal medicines, as well as a revive on death item...)
3DS (Card)

Re: What are you playing?
Been rocking Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance].
It's awesome. so awesome. Flowmotion makes moving around easy, and it makes combat a lot more hectic, it's saved my life more than a few times.
The story is surprisingly good so far:
Spoiler
Lea and some of the other Organisation members have come back to life as complete people, but Xemnas and Saix (Isa) are missing for some reason, Lea has set out on a journey to find Isa. Maleficent and Pete are back and kidnapped Minnie.
The nature of the worlds that Sora and Riku are visiting is... strange. Sora, Riku and at first, Joshua, believed that the worlds they were visiting were dreams of the sleeping worlds, but it's becoming increasingly clear that something isn't right. Xehanort even stated to Sora that the world he was in was not a dream, but real, and Joshua eventually realised that the two versions of Traverse Town that Sora and Riku and separated in aren't parallel worlds, but are actually 2 completely different worlds with a different flow of time. It's very interesting, i wanna know what the hell is going on
The way that the characters from The World Ends With You are used is really cool, and Joshua is so omniscient that he's practically become a series main character. Apparently they have a homeworld of Shibuya and told Sora to come visit them one day. Shibuya in KH3? yes please.
As you progress through certain cut scenes you gain "Chronicles", such as "Chronicles: Kingdom Hearts" and then "Chronicles: Birth By Sleep", they tell the entire plot of the other Kingdom Hearts Games, and they are awesome for catching up on the series and refreshing your knowledge.
The Flick Rush minigame is surprisingly fun, i'm enjoying it, and it gives access to some really rare items (such as the Deep Freeze magic spell), though i'm disappointed with the amount of Keyblades in the game so far.
I'm playing Sora as a mage with all Magic commands and Riku as a warrior with all attack commands, it keeps things interesting because you have to adapt your strategy with every Drop.
Oh, and Final Fantasy characters appear in name as the Link Portals that show up around the worlds. like Celes, Lightning, Balthier, Vaan, Firion, Squall and every other main character in the series.

Re: What are you playing?
Recently played Jurassic Park: The Game.
It was really cool, i liked the way it fit with the plot of the the film and even provided a link between the first film and the sequel in a way that i didn't expect. The scenes were fast paced and the characters were all interesting.
There were lots of HOLY pomegranate moments too, like when the T-rex showed up near the start and you had to button mash like crazy to get out of the fence you were trapped under, or when you are playing as the little girl as she tries to get around the T-rex to get to some medicine. And i literally said Holy pomegranate when i saw the guy stalking the Velociraptors rather than the other way around.
The only things i didn't like about this game was that the T-rex was used far too much. I started calling it the Deux Rex Machina by the end. And some of the commands were too fast and too complicated, to the point where you would only get 100% (and not die many times) if you had played the game before and knew what commands were coming.
...Or maybe i just have pomegranatety reflexes.
Anyway, i love how they had new dinosaurs in this game too, not just the ones shown in the film. They even introduced something more deadly than Velociraptors, which i was surprised about, because i expected the raptors to show up a lot more in the game, rather than just the third episode. They also cleared up problems people had with the film (such as the Velociraptors being too big, which was explained in the journal as being an error in their DNA)
The puzzles were mostly fun and interesting (the puzzle where you have to work out what intersection you are at by looking at blueprints for example). some weren't so great (the one with the mating calls for example).
But overall i enjoyed it immensely and the fanboy in me was really happy to get back into Jurassic Park again.
Naw, the one that came out last year. I bought it in the Steam Summer Sale.

I'm too chicken pomegranate to play the game, as much as I love the horror genre. :( But I heard that some modders are working on a multiplayer version that runs on the source engine, and I'll totally play that if they release it.
I finally got every single thing on Binding of Isaac, unfortunately due to some glitches from the previous versions, it thinks I haven't unlocked certain secrets, although I have and have the achievements for them, so I'm locked out of getting the Platinum God achievement. So depressing.

Been playing MGS:2HD and whoring achievements there. Much, much better game than I remembered. Knocking out dog tags(2 difficulties done so far) right now and then on to the countless VR missions.
Was playing Anno 2070. Had a great settlement, with positive economic balance and positive ecobalance, also had a great military fleet which was destroying the opponent.
Then all of a sudden... Tornado. Enter stage left, moves slowly across the map, passing through mostly unoccupied islands, completely swerves around my enemies island and moves towards my island and the enemies island. It stops in between my island and his, like it's deciding, then begins to turn towards the enemy. "Great" I think, so I turn my attention away to focus on an enemy attack when suddenly:
"A tornado is destroying your buildings!"
"Fire warning! a blaze is spreading through your city!"
Sigh. It swerved back towards me at the last second and passed directly through my city. it then proceeded to travel all the way off the opposite side of the map, without even touching any of the other islands or my enemy (again).

Re: What are you playing?
Since my computer asploded, I've been playing some console games that have been on my backlog for months / years.
KH3D ~ Not console, but it's my current handheld game. I'm only on world 3. I super slacker.
Kirby: Return to Dreamland ~ Sisters lost interest a month or so after the game's release. I decided to finish up the game these past 2 days. 100%'d both "Main Mode" and "Extra Mode" as well as beat Arena and TRUE Arena. Spark ability most broken ability in the game.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii ~ As with Kirby, sisters lost interest a couple months after the game's release. Finished up World 8 and World 9. 5 Sparkly Stars, hooray.
Donkey Kong Country Returns ~ Never actually touched the game even though we got it on release. On world 4, decided to tell the "Time Trial" runs to pineapple themselves after I read you don't need to do them for 100%. X-K levels suck :f4:

Re: What are you playing?
Downloaded an emulator and Pokemon Black/White/Heartgold/SoulSilver and FFTA2.
Not much motivation to continue playing Heartgold cause I lost a ton of progress on it when I accidentally closed the emulator before saving completed.
Currently stuck at Nimbasa City Gym on White, because my Lv23 Rock Tomb Drilbur can't tank more than a single hit from Elesa's Emolga (same goes for my overleveled lv27 Sandile). Not to mention her Emolga are really annoying with their sheer speed and evasion. I wonder where I should grind my Drilbur and Sandile (and the rest of my team; they're all around lv23~25)?
