What's causing all the inflation? - alwzn4vr - 2009-07-06 FrozNlite Wrote:Excellent point. So then, are you upset that people are angry? Do you want to change that? If you don't care then my next point has no merit. If you do care, then I ask how you would have wanted the merchants to go about their plan with a methodology more "morally sound," per say. Would you have liked them to tell everyone, "Hey, check out the deflating prices for meso. We know the market is about to inflate, so we're going to inflate it first."? Then the information would be out there, just like Maker or global PS3 sales, but would it help? Not in this case, because what can the average GMS player do but sit and watch the market inflate; not everyone can buy out an FM of GFAs. Well said. My concern however isn't so much with player driven inflation such as the Glove Attack Scroll. I'm fine with the fact that some like to play the economic side of this game. I'm much more concerned that iCollect's claim of a mesos hack is indeed true. We all know Nexon isn't the swiftest when it comes to acknowledging or fixing problems. As an aside, some people are making the low cost of mesos attributable to the chinese law banning sales of virtual items. I think that's a red herring as I have checked several U.S. sites that also sell other in game currencies. They are also selling at the $45 per billion and as I have noted on sw.net, they are selling in transactions of up to 5 or 10 billion with 10 minute delivery times. If their supply is finite then those prices will go up as more people are tempted to buy. If however, their supply is infinite due to a dupe hack, then those prices will go lower as competition for your dollar increases. (They may also get their supply from other sources such as chinese farmes, I have no idea how they get their supply) New players to the game are going to be turned off not being able to purchase/upgrade gear at massively inflated prices. Even with the occasional scroll from quests, etc they're not going to compete with NX buyers (who will be selling at ever increasing ratios) and mesos buyers who won't care how much things cost because they have dirt cheap access to billions. Perhaps Nexon willl see this as an incentive to have people buy NX since it's readily converted to mesos (currently at 10:1) Maybe they won't care how much mesos is floating around. Some things that Nexon could do if they were ever so inclined: 1. Log all trades. (if they don't already) 2. Have a Nexon employee purchase gold from each site. 3. Identify the delivery account and all trades that account has made that are over 100 mil. Particulary 1 way trades. 4. Perma ban the delivery account, temp ban the recipients and mark them as first time mesos buyers. (Yes I know, they're may be collateral damage) Rinse and repeat. This won't stop mesos dropping trades of course but it would be a start. Sorry for wall of text. Mr. Eosian Parish, you are the one that brags about your "knowledge" every minute of the day. ... lol, I am not that good of a person to spend my money on others. korea Wrote:u should stop buying mesos with RL money (LOOOL) and lern2leech I am a Night Lord, I make enough mesos training that I don't have the need to buy mesos or sell leech. On topic: The only thing that Nexon can do to try to fix this situation is bring back the box event with lots more items and much better drop rate on everything. What's causing all the inflation? - iCollect - 2009-07-06 ItzTaylor Wrote:Maple is going to pomegranate now, you might as well quit and play a new game.I only started talking when someone told me my guild was mentioned in this thread. I looked at it and simply wanted to clarify some misgivings people seemed to feel towards us. ;P Now to the "what's the point" question... the point of any game is to of course have fun. If you feel you're working in a game, you should quit the game. So I would vouch that anyone that's having fun "taking advantage" of the the economy probably has that as their point in playing this game. Speaking from my experience I can tell you that once you reach a certain point in this game, you stop caring about mesos at all and pretty much only play it for the fun of collaboration with friends and joking around in game. So, to that effect, no matter how much this game inflates, some people simply don't care as long as they can continue doing what they do and have their laughs. The point isn't always in the end product and is sometimes just the process itself. =P As for losing real money... let's say merchants only made 15b from investing 5b, as per my previous example. Let's say they sell these mesos at current meso selling prices. Let's calculate that. $6 = 100mil $60= 1b $600=10b $1200 = 20b A merchant that has 20b would still make away with $1200 clean if he simply sold what he earned. =P Quote:Eventually Nexon would have to do something about it, or increase the tradable meso cap, or what I said will be true, because theres only a certain max amount, and a certain amount of trust.Just a note, all godly items that exceed 2.147b are traded in two methods. 1) mesos + items that have a certain worth. i.e. 21 atk for 20atk +items/mesos 2) mts. That being said, the apocalypse isn't quite here yet, so don't fret. =) @ most posters in these last two pages: yay, a semi-intelligent conversation!

Dam meso buyers & merchanters buying up all the good stuff & inflating everything.. .. If this inflation was natural, then one, it wouldnt be as high, and two, we would really have little grounds to say anything about it beyond the "this inflation sucks". But you caused this inflation. Even in a free market economy, directly causing inflation, in the real world, is actually grounds to be arrested and put on trial. All of your "pleading" about how your just trying to survive in the inflating market is a completely asinine argument, because you are basically trying to survive your own inflation, which probably wouldnt have happened as bad without your influence. The way a free market economy, or basically any economy works, is based of Land Labor and Capital. Land=FM spots, Labor=hunting/merchanting, Capitol=investment. Its all a balancing act, and too much of one can drastically change the market overall. We have too much Capital... What's causing all the inflation? - Fiel - 2009-07-06 He never laid claim to the cause of the inflation. Where did you read that from? Also, iCollect, you might want to be careful. I was merely referring to the herb basil and the umm... rash responses i get from talking to the aforementioned vegetable! it's not easy having a discussion with a veggie, you know! What's causing all the inflation? - LittlePrincess - 2009-07-06 Wow, you guys all seem depressed. I'm gonna go sell a years worth of stockpiled scrolls for 10x+ their purchase price. ![]() And I think there really must be some kind of meso hack going on. Because... foreign & US companies are selling for the same price it's happening accross all servers mts value is not inflating with it (only slightly to account for those who buy with nx & sell to make mesos) meso sellers are plumeting the price and not running out of mesos I don't see tones (or any) meso botters and haven't seen any for a long time What's causing all the inflation? - iCollect - 2009-07-06 Sn1perJohnE Wrote:Seemed like it to me Fine example of things being taken out of context. He's bought out the FM at 5 mil and is now selling at 20 mil. No need to survive if he's making a good profit. The real danger is hyperinflation due to duped gold/items. BTW, your free market economy example of land labor and capital is based on physical scarcity. In game economies are not always restricted in that way, particularly when events such as gold/item duping occur. (Try duping a piece of land or cloning a factory worker) @iCollect: If at all possible, could you elaborate on any details as to what you've heard/know about this alleged duping. How is inflation ever "natural"? Any time Mesos aren't being removed from the game at a rate reasonably close to the rate they're being found, you see natural inflation. I.e. when NLC first came out and the average player's pot costs plummeted while the amount they found while training remained about the same, prices went up a bit. Obviously nothing like we see here, but natural inflation exists. Unless you wanna get picky and argue the semantics of a currency not backed by something like a gold standard being artificial in its entirety. Obviously nothing like we see here, but natural inflation exists. The term natural inflation itself is a contradiction. Inflation is never natural and always caused by human actions. Your examples are also of human interactions. If you're referring to the prevailing trend of inflation in most economies over a period of time then that's simply the natural RATE of inflation, not inflation itself. =) Unless we do a complete 180 and go with inflation caused by natural disasters... but that point is completely moot in this particular discussion. =P Quote:1.
